Not sure why you're recommending shutting off the acetylene first as that practice is from decades-old information (misinformation). This is contrary to just about everything I've learned and can find from contemporary, reliable sources. The resulting backfire (pop) is the first indicator that this is not the way to do it. Shutting down the torch is just the opposite of lighting it and bringing it down to a neutral flame. It's very old information to turn off acetylene first. Very old.If you shut of acetylene first, the mixed O2 level will change upward within the torch, allowing the flame to suddenly BURN BACK into the torch, causing the small 'pop'. If you turn of O2 first, the burning rate rapidly lowers only fuel is exiting the tip. (so you're back to a sooty flame)The SAFE and correct method is to shut off the Oxygen first.

I welded for over 40 yrs. At one time I was certified in all processes and metals. I'm not trying to brag. Just saying I know what I'm talking about. This is an outstanding introduction video. I had a neighbor teenager who ask me to teach him how to weld. I had him watch this video first. Then I tested him on what he learned. Smart kid even brought notes. Set everything up from the beginning. Very good video.
I was just sitting here bored thinking about dumb stuff and thought "I wonder if its possible to weld with a oxy torch" sure enough you can. Very cool. Im gunna buy that tip and try this out myself
