Is the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark ii Still Worth Buying?
Sorry, everyone (and your ears) for the audio levels! Yeah, it's way off.rushed everything a bit (wanted to get it out before flight) and neglected it. Will have it sorted for the next vid. Cheers, K.

Shall I get this camera with the 12-40mm pro lense or the Sony a7ii with the standard lense?
The last Olympus review from Kai Good times.
Any review to M1-mk3
Hey Kai .what backpack is that
With firmware 3.0, the C-AF is vastly improved!
Huge gear with such a small sensor.
I bought one last summer. A real pleasure to use. I love this little Oly which made me forget the heavy back breaking equipment and reconnected me with the pleasure to capture still photographies.
This is one of my favorite camera bodies!
Firmware 3.0 fixed movie AF - really good now.
Not from definitely Grindr
I enjoy your sense of humor and it seems like you know your stuff butoh shit-burgers I see you already responded to my audio, especially the "music" is irritating.
More work of Tim he is good :)
This is a beautifully built camera with supreme capabilities. Nonetheless, that all goes to waste as, even with firmware version 2.3, the camera randomly freezes and you just cannot rely upon it.
What happened to Tim?
Curious if you have ever Reviewed the Leica cameras? If so, could you point me to the link to watch it. I would love to see your reviews on any of them. I’m looking for an good Camera and going to base the one I get off the reviews I see of yours. I think you’re very good and detailed at what you do.
I just bought one on with a 10,000 shutter count for only $680 American on ebay. Such a great deal compared to the price of the Mark III and even E-m5 Mark III.
The Canon eos rp can easily get over 1000 shots on the battery, when just doing burst shots. The basically, how many pictures+burst series did you get? Not included all the burst shots, but only the series of burst.?
First time your partner comes in the video, your skin gets extremely awkward color but your partners skin is naturally colored
How long does one battery last while shooting 4k video?
Firmware 3,1 autofocus lboom ! :))
5;37 " you even have a very generous option to support basically like the Panasonic stabilization in their lenses". IS THIS TRUE?
any plans to update this review since there has been several large firmware updates?
The pen-f doesn't have a AA filter
Firmware 3.1 out now, the camera is so much better now
Any chance you guys gonna do an update review on this camera since firmware 3 adds phase detect af?
With the arrival of firmware v 3.0, I think this camera should be reviewed again. Especially its autofocus.
4/3 sensor with a full frame body size% Thanx.
Why aren't you using Olympus glass on the hockey?
Confusing iconography? But the diamonds and hearts make so much sense! :D
Pro capture is awesome feature
is it good for low light if i have super expensive lens like Oly 17mm 1.2 or Pana Nocticron 42,5mm 1,2 ?
I'm surprised you didn't mention when shooting video, there's a nasty green cast in skin tones that can be found in many Olympus cameras. It is especially obvious at 9:10, 11:03 and 11:35 and many shots in between. I believe the newer E-M10 Mark III has improved the colour science and fixed this issue. But it's a shame that the very video-capable flagship camera still suffers. I hope they fix it in Mark III with higher bitrate and 10 bit internal recording. Otherwise, very informative review and excellent delivery!
Can the QMD E-Mi Mark II be shopped vs new Sony a7III ? or is this not a good comparo?
Please help ,I love this camera,is it worth buy in 2018, and as a first cam
I bought your ".Menu System Simplified" book for this camera on Amazon. Found it by accident. Thank you for taking the trouble to publish this series of self-help books on the Olympus menu systems.
Top shelf quality review, Thank You!
Would love the Mark III, but my budget is around the Mark II. Is this worth upgrading from my E-M10 Mark II ?
With the current price drop to $850 in US, which camera is a better buy E-M1 Mark II or E-M5 Mark III?
Enjoyed the review. Quite different from the run of the mill reviews
Been watching your MFT videos for quite some time before adding a gx80 to my kit mainly for street photography. What an epiphany ! The format has some benefits that can't be denied.
Almost 3 years later and still an excellent review. Thanks! Back in 2017 one of your biggest issues with the mark ii was the price. I just bought a very good used EM-1 mark ii for $900. Considering that the mark ii once retailed for $2000, I think these are now a great bargain. New models now sell for $1299 plus tax in the US.
Love this as an EM1mk ii and pro lens user but the guitarist video really shows the depth of field issues with suspended ceiling is ghastly. I'd not feel that an attractive or perhaps even usable result.
This is yet another wonderfully made and even entertaining review, David! I love watching your videos for the calm manner in which you convey your review. Coming to the camera itself, I believe you use the G9, and would be curious to know the factors that pushed the G9 ahead of the EM1 Mark II for your decision ? Thanks again for the reviews!
The video autofocus is significantly improved with the latest firmware. Definitely worth an updated look!
Hi David, I’m curious to know what do you think about this Camera 3 year later and after the new Firmware Update? Greetings From Black Forest
Hi David, thanks for this video and all your others too.
i have looking at this camera for years some people same the images are not as good as the full frame (top flagship) cameras. Is this true and should i start pricing a Sony?
One of the very thorough and most comprehensive technical reviews, I have ever seen, so far. Totally reliable and heavy duty Camera from Olympus in the Micro Four Thirds range. Many Thanks & Best Regards !
How is there a 50mp mode when the camera is only 20mp?
Being a dslr shooter, I suddenly realised that my camera was staying in the bag more than out in the field. It is too big and heavy to lug around everywhere I go and I am noticing that I am shooting more with my smartphone than with my 80d and am not liking that! So am considering moving to the olympus em1 mkii mainly because the 4/3rd system is lighter and easier to lug around and have wonderful image quality and weather sealing. I hope to carry camera everywhere I go and shoot more with it than my smartphone. Your video helped a lot in my decision making process!
Hi David, are you planning on updating this review after upgrading to the 3.0 firmware?
love your reviews, help me to buy wisely. It's true , you have a great voice. I actually imitated you for a voice over the other day in France! so thanks for that too!
Here it is, May 2019, well after two years since you made this video, and the EM-1 Mk II here in the USA, body-only, is $1500 USD, the exact same price as the far more capable Canon 7D Mk II, and the Nikon D500 DSLR's. Well, they are far more capable when it comes to continuous auto-focus (C-AF) anyway, and lens choice. But even the Canon 80D and Nikon D7500 are excellent C-AF cameras, priced at 2/3 of a an EM-1. So why would anyone want the Olympus for sports/action photography or birds-in-flight? Well, there are a few good reasons. The Olympus, unlike Canon and Nikon, has that outstanding 5+ stop in-body stabilization. That alone is reason enough, but it also has the fully articulated screen, top-shelf weather sealing and build quality, excellent video integration, and it's a smaller, lighter platform, especially when it comes to the lenses, all important points to consider.  And the shooting experience using the rear screen instead of the viewfinder is just as good, unlike with Canon and Nikon, though Canon is getting better with that sort of thing. As I get older, I find framing photos using just the rear screen to be easier in many situations. But that 1500 USD price tag of the EM-1is still a bitter pill to swallow. Now that the camera is over two years old, and due for replacement, Olympus is making it a litter easier for us Americans to buy one. They have a "trade-in" program where you can trade-in just about any old DSLR or mirrorless system camera and get the price down to $1200 USD. At that price, it might be worth a second look. So I came to your channel to see what you thought about it, and was very pleased to hear about the better-than-average C-AF, which for me, is the most important factor of them all. Olympus has done an absolutely terrible job with C-AF in the past, and I honestly don't trust them when it comes to action photography. But based on your real-world results, it seems that Olympus has finally figured out how important this is to some of us, though Canon and Nikon are still, by far, the leaders in this field. So perhaps, after all these years, an E-M1 Mk II might just be the "one camera" I've been looking to replace my hodge-podge of Nikon, Panasonic and Olympus camera bodies. If so, I might get rid of all my Nikon equipment entirely. The 20mp sensor in the Nikon D500 really isn't that much better than the one in this camera, and Olympus sensor is actually better than the one in the Canon 7D Mk II. So sensor size and quality isn't really a factor. But those Olympus and Panasonic lenses are just amazing, even the relatively inexpensive ones. Small, light, easy to carry, and wonderful results. I would miss them far more than any of my Nikon lenses. Thank you so much for helping me figure out what to do. Looks like there just might be an E-M1 Mk. II in my future yet. Now, should I get the 12-40mm zoom as well? Time to watch another video.
Blindingly Ace and informatively wry critiqueThank you.
This camera is already iconic. Better grip than my beloved Canon 5diii. Menu system is a pain at first but that’s because of all the features. Bought mine second hand for 900 euro with less than 1000 actuations. Olympus colour science is second to none and the IQ is astounding.
Hi, Jose from Puerto Rico. I bought a used one for 645 bucks on eBay and it basically unblemished and functioning exceptionally well. I always try to not move from the base ISO of 200 and like you mentioned, the image stabilization is exceptional. Down the road I will try to get more glass and have a blast with this unit. The feature set on this camera is incredible and I'm still learning it. The firmware upgrade 3.4 has made it new again.
@UC9aW1srPdpTcf_Y-J_JyLHQ Just Curious what firmware Were You On when You Were on the Subject Of the Fast Moving HIT & MISS Shots =Not being So Good? what i'm leading to im sure youv figured right about Now Were you may have Just cought the New Firmware Update AFTER This & So i'm Just Wondering if So & You were Able to Update Do You Feel Better About the AF Accuracy + Speed & Just All the Way Around Do You Notice Much Much Better? :-) THANK YOU IN ADVANCE & Great Video Thanks for Sharing
There Is a fine Line in what it sounds like you SAIDIS UNLEAR= YOU SAID => ""So if Your looking for a Camera that'll do 60Fps in 4K"You SAID =THIS CAMERA Is going to Do It For YA? LOL HUH WHAT? IS Or IS NOT GOING TO DO IT FOR YA LOL
With the current price drop, which camera is a better buy E-M1 Mark II or E-M5 Mark III?
it's still pricey, so why not? even olympus pro lenses aren't cheap neither go mk2 instead mk3 may save you a little bit money for lenses matter
It's relevant. In Europe you get a free f/1.2 lens with it. I just bought it and it's a fantastic camera. Big upgrade from my E-M5 Mark II.
Having hard time deciding on OM D M1 or Olympus elp7
Have you updated the firmware to deal with the auto focus
It is still relevant and will be for the next 3 years. I was looking for a new camera this year and could not find anything worth buying considering the factors: size (relevant for wildlife), water protection and is. I would like the sensor to perform a bit better in low light. But compromises has to be made
