@blinsaff which would be an good nd filter. Can you please help..
Does it have built in stabilisation for the lens?
Definitely usable at pretty much any location! Superb lens for the light travel kit
What type of camera stabilizer would you recommend for a GH5?
this guys face at 1:41 LMAOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! STRAIGHT LET ONE LOOSE!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!
Not a review - just a recommendation.
Is it par focal?
Hi Blindsaff is there an option to this lens for an a7III ? Im seeing all your reviews and the lenses are amazing but I have an a7III and I need to know if there are options for me camera
Hey! I'm early in my research of this lens, but it's right at the top of my list currently. I just wanted to find out if it's possible to add Nd filters to this lens? Does it have threading at the end of the lens for filter attachment?
As I'm in the research stage I found this video really helpful. I was wondering if you used this lens for the entire time of the video, excluding when you were showing us the lens? I will be moving from a Nikon D80, which I purchased in 2006/07. I'm moving as I've been really impressed with the technology, price and weight behind the mirrorless cameras. I plan to use purchase a OM-D E-M1 Mark II. The motivation is to be able to take large photographs of my artwork, make use of the video for blogging and for outdoor work. Money is tight so this will be my only lens for a while, till I can afford further lens. What do you think of using this lens as the basis of my work?
Lovely review: beautiful, cinematic, shows off different light conditions, usage, feel, features; super calm and pleasure to watch! Voice is stable, smooth, footage helps to understand performance of the lens. Deem! Thanks a lot for this input. Lot of Panasonic 12-35 f2.8, but I guess Olympus is less popular with the video crowd (E-M 1 II: kinda overpriced (but massive features!!)? Bodies seem to be rather photo-oriented considering variable framerate/awful pre-amps on the cam.. I wonder if that was fixed with the 3.0 update? Let me know if You know). But the clutch - the clutch on this one is a bomb move! Now it's kinda "budget" Leica 10-25 f1.7!
What I would also love to see, if there is any focus breathing during focus pulling (as footage example; dunno tho, if that's your shooting style), how long the throw is and feels to you (again, if that's your shooting style). Also it would be great to hear that it's "f4 equivalent - fullframe terms" for all those spec nerds to see, what can be done with m43. It would be also lovely to hear, if this review was also shot on the same combo; hope I didn't miss it..
Back to the vid - even the thumbnail straight away looks really pro: really neat footage was so clean, I was hesitant to click! Thought it would be boring "I talk" vid, but turned out to be really balanced between Your personality (+specs) and "look how it works". Great! Loved the review! Should be out there, when people research for Panasonic 12-35 f2.8 for video!
Cheerio!

I love this lens, it's my go to lens for my GH5
Outstanding - and short - review. Liked/subbed. I use this lens nearly constantly, only going to primes when I need a faster f stop. The ruggedness of the camera is one of its best features. Shot a little short on the GH5 to test out a the fly-cam nano, and for the exterior shot I needed a shot in the rain. No problem - threw on the Oly 12-40 and out I went, never having to worry about the camera or lens. Keep up the good work! Link to the vid (it's super short), exterior shot with the Oly, interior with the Panny 20mm 1.7: https://youtu.be/WBetOrfUhl0
Hmm, maybe some kind of ritualistic sacrifice having the Olympus lens on a Panasonic camera, that said I do get a bit confused about whether you might choose the creative aspects of the 1.8 Olympus primes or just going for the easy as Olympus 12-40 2.8 zoom, what do you think?
I almost always have this lens on my camera, it's definitely my go to lens. The focus clutch is one of the best features of the lens especially when shooting in low light. I really enjoyed the images on this video, great work - I subscribed!
Yup! Me too! Excellent images in this review, imo!
It was the goto lens until the 12-100 f4 pro came out. Still have them both
I agree it's a gem of a lens. subbed!
My favourite MFT lens, before someone else gets this, I thought I'd do a little mini review / opinions video on why I love it.
I did forget to mention there's no stabilisation! If you're curious...
I hope you enjoyed this video! LIKE and subscribe if you want to see more.
What is your favourite MFT lens? Let me know in the comments 👇👇👇
Love the pacman lamp at the back
Many thanks for the quick assessment, it has been made precise, short and to the point. I think this lens is amazing for shooting weddings both still and movie shots, due to its fixed bright F2.8 aperture and zoom coverage from 24-80 mm, covering wide angle, standard and portraits in one go.
Your selling your mft lens ...Are you going back to full-frame?
I got this lens with my Em1 Mkii a few years ago. It's truly a great lens.
Loving that b roll
Great video! Really good info to help me out with my next lense I'm going to purchase soon.
can i use this lens for my BMPC 6K ??
Being new to MFT (transferred from Canon 6D and 80D) this is the first lens I bought with my E-M5 mkii. Before buying the body and lens I rented the body and the 12-35 Panasonic for a week. I couldn't knock the image quality of the Panasonic but my rental's lens cap would never secure well and sometimes I could find photos with 2 blacked out corners because the lens cap came loose. So far everything about the Oly rocks!
*Arrived promptly. Initial impression is that lens◔。◔>**imgs.love/Olympus4?ふv** though the body is plastic, is still well made and certainly lightweight. Have not put it to test yet on camera.*
It weighs 382g.
Rented this lens to Italy and I'd buy when I have the cash. Awesome.
Can this be used on Fuji X-T2 body?
Is this lense weather sealed?
love the review. Would like to see this lens vs the lumix 12 35 as there very similar in price. Keep up the good work!
I prefer Fuji 16-55 f 2.8
Nice video as using. Interesting lens as well.
Love this lens, I sold off a Pana-Leica 15 1.7 to get this one and never regretted it. Love the close focusing capabilities and the magnification of 1:3 is really nice for the type of photography I shoot. I'm a sucker for close ups or textures and details and this lens never let me down on the front. If I ever do decide to give M43 another go this would be the first lens I'd buy - this, the 60mm Oly macro and a tele option are all i would ever need.
Like your M43 reviews. Surely review of 40-150mm 2.8 Pro is next :)
The images appear magnificent. Ordered this lens and it is being delivered today. Can’t wait to give it a workout. 👍 Mark
Hahaha, I was just thinking about how you'd left the cover off, then you'd mentioned that people might be freaking out...LOL!
Thanks Blunty, I find your reviews to be some of the most enjoyable and informative of all youtube, It is a true pleasure to see them. By the way, could you posibly make a dedicated review of the little Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 12mm f/2.0 ??? Have a good one
Blunty - as usual, a great review (though it's now a rather older one). Question is.... would you still by it if you could have only one zoom in this range? Bonus question: this lens or two primes (say, the Rokinon 12mm & Panasonic Lumix G 42.5mm f/1.7 ASPH. POWER O.I.S.)?
Awesome review! I'm looking to buy this lens now. Anyway also just wanted to say you have an awesomely ambiguous accent. I mean it's clearly Australian, but there's also influence from the "non-regional" American accent making it extremely easy for a dingus like me to understand you. I'm guessing you've spent a lot of time stateside and/or have a good amount of Yankee friends?
Blunty, you're awesome. Freakin' awesome.
just purchased. love your reviews. they're really helpful. thanks.
cheers Blunty!
Thank you Blunty! I just purchased this lens and am looking forward to using it. Your video is very helpful!
very impress with the reviews, thanks alot
I realize this is an old review but it's a good one. After being on the fence about spending so much for a lens your enthusiasm for it won me over. So far I only have the 25mm & 45mm and do appreciate how light and compact the camera is with them. I'm just a little leery about the size and weight on an E-M5 II and I really don't want to add a grip to it and make it even larger.
Perfect review! This lens is indeed fantastic and I prefeer this lens over the Panasonic. Can agree that focus speed, build quality, image quality and focal range is AMAZING! :)
You have the most informative and entertaining videos on camera related products. You are so damn entertaining, haha.
I watch your all your videos just to hear you.
Thanks man, It was immensely helpful.
The locks on those hoods should be on all hoods, my first canon i had the very first thing that happened was i went to take a picture of lillies over the water from a walkway, and the hood just fell right off the camera, you would think such a light piece of plastic would float but noooo, it sank like a stone >_
You sure are an excellent public speaker and/or seller!
Awesome review man. Been following you for tech stuff and recently realised communitychannel and yourself crossed paths early on. I'm happy to see an Australian YouTube community-like cohort happening. And I will probably get that lens myself.
I wish I could get this camera instead of going out and paying for pro photos with my family.Must be nice.
Was wondering, do you always remove noise in lightroom before posting images? I know youtube vids are not the best for judging picture quality, but you images appear clearer than my ones. I just recently bought E-M1 with 17mm 1.8 lens, and still learning. Maybe I'm missing some settings? I love the camera, and pictures look great in general, but they do seem a bit fuzzy, even on low iso. I haven't had a chance to test another one apart from mine, I hope its not a defect of something.
Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro Lens Review
I love mine. Waiting for the 40-150 f2.8 Pro... #photography #cameragear #lens_reviews
