Biggest mistake of DigitalRevTV to let these two guys move on.
I know I'm a bit late but 5:53 - bottom right corner.
Anyone else watching this in 2020?
Naughty sex wee. God the nostalgia...
Hi, thank you for this amazing review. I really love this lens. However, I came across a weird issue with recording in C-AF mode. This is my go-to lens and I often switch between shooting and recording. But when I'm recording in C-AF, the lens is making weird "clapping" sound as it tries to focus. With S-AF or MF, there is no problem. I'm using Olympus ELP-7 body. As I read on many discussion, this is a mechanic issue and it's not cause by users. Can you please check this behaviour and advice, what to do? I reached Olympus service and I'm waiting for the answer, however it looks like I have to pay 120EUR for repair. I'm based in Berlin, Germany. Do you think that newest models have already fixed this issue? Best. Hana VIDEO EXAMPLE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRbvylEl9sU
Is this compatible with the Osmo Pro x5 standard?
according to amazon , the snapshot mechanism is activated simply by pulling the focusing ring back, with distance and depth of field indicators that allow users to focus without looking at the camera screen.?
what England?
would your recommend this or the M.ZUIKO 25mm 1.8 for my first (all purpose) lens?
i was able to test the 17mm 1.8 for two days and it is an absolutely amazing lens!
good for me..
4:01 "apart from the wobbliness of this ring, it does feel kinda good" so deadpan, cant tell if that was deliberate or not
The 17mm f2.8 isn't bad at all.
where did u get your flash from?
would this fit my olympus ep-L1?
"Chinese restaurant on a boat" is worth a like all by itself!
I have a ptogramm on my PC called "iLok".
Must join evil cult Falun Gong @ 4.29
What viewfinder is that
what type of camera you shoot your video with ?
Wonderful presentation - as usual. Thanks
*where do you think the quality is* : Lumix 20mm f1.7 or Olympus 17mm f1.8 ?
You should look at the Samsung 17mm f1.8 NX-M. I have it and is tiny!
Love it for day street photography, BUT night time street is a no-no, hideous flare from street lights.... A real pity.
Excellent review as always, I'm off to buy one of these. The sharpness queens might not be fanboy's and Girls but the clean image, even tones and manual focus is a win for me. I'm finding myself using manual focus more and more with these M.Zuiko lenses, maybe because I'm over 50 but I suspect it's simply that I feel more involved in the process, the creation of the shot rather than simply click & go which I've never been a fan of.
Great review....once again. A stunning lens. Clarity, lightness and super focus even for low light street work.. love it...
I'm wondereing if this still is one of your top three favourite lenses?
thanks, you touched on all my questions - and did the comparison to the 20mm - as a street guy for my focus speed is important, cheers!
Great review. I have the Voigtlander 17.5mm F/0-95 lens on my Panasonic GH5s
I own the Panasonic 20mm. Do you think it is redundant to own both? Thanks. Mark
your partner is very forgiving!! great reviews as ever. thank you.
You’ve got me sold. Going to buy one. 👍
I will have to see what Davies take in this is to know what's what. No worries that you had not got around to it yet as I found this review on a lens I have. To be shown places I know as seen by you makes me want to try harder. I had the Mk 1 20mm f1.7 Panasonic once and replaced it with this, I wonder if you would have the same. A terrific informative entertaining nailed review as always although I don't suppose you were thanked for one image included.
i want to sell both my Fujis Xt-1 for two 4/3 cameras even if its the pen...love the 25mm and 17mm David.....thank you for the video.
Hi David Ive been reading so many different reviews and I finally find your great videos to watch which Ive really enjoyed even if you have made me want even more lenses! Im a cityscape shooter and have the Oly 9-18, Pana 12-32 & oly 45mm. My next purchase will prob be another prime, perhaps this Oly 17mm or splash out on a 2nd hand Pana Leica 25mm f1.4, any thoughts? Please feel free to check out #escapetheofficejob
David, your videos seem to always leave me smarter. Your background is so valuable... Camera and lens specs are important, but wisdom and experience you apply to your content are worth its weight in gold to me.
Now THIS is how a review should be!
Stellar - thx.
Thanks for this great review. Glad made the right decision for my first MFT lens. Moving from Canon APS-C to Olympus MFT. Just don't wanna carry the weight anymore. Sold my L-Lenses years ago. Which lens hood is that in the video, btw?
Does anyone know what lens hood is being shown at time 1:39?
Those lens hoods are 1$ from aliexpress with free shipping
Hi Jimmy, do.you use a UV filter or lens hood with yr lenses
I just got the 17 mm lens and am wondering if I should get a UV filter as well as a lens hood
I saw some compatible non Olympus lens hood which is a lot cheaper & can serve the purpose as well...so am considering a third party lens hood as an alternative
Would like to hear yr comments

Wonderful and honest review. This is my daily driver on my E-M5. The E-PM2 goes with as well; equipped with the Panny 14/2.5.....
Sounds like this lens actually might kill the 12mm F2? Oh yeah, small doors are for Hobbits man!
I have try to love this lens (i have owned it two times) and it so cool lens to look at,but it have many problems:very high distortion, huge astigmatism, visible up to f/5.6 aperture, and it is not sharp at all,it have more a nostalgic feel to it,because it look so cool.
This lens has balls .
Where is this lens made?
8:15 ... that couple at the reflection moment is LIT!!!
One of the reasons of small door is for safety and limiting. On the other hand small door is much lighter than those big heavy doors and much easier to open and close. And In my country (Iran) doors were often small in past because thay made people bend to habituate them to be humble! I like this reason so much!
I shoot as a hobby and own a em5 mii and a 25mm oly. I'm planning on getting a 17mm. Should i save more and get a 12-40mm f2.8 instead?
The small door was to allow daily entry by pedestrians... The large door was opened only for Horse Riding Royalty (or rarely for entrance by Horse & Carriage if important eg. Tax Wagon, Religious Leaders and so on...)...
I plan on travelling with my E-M10.2 and the Lumix 20mm 1.7 pancake lens. It almost fits in my pocket and is super sharp. Of course, if the E-M5.3 is released soon enough that's what I'll be taking. Thanks for the review. I like your videos.
The big door was built for wide angle lenses.
Hello ... what camera and lens did you use to make this video¨?
hah I just picked this up 2 days ago before seeing this vid. glad I have someone confirming I made a good choice
Sigma f1.4 16mm
It's a nice lens but after comparing it to the 20mm Panasonic, the latter is a better lens, it's cheaper and much, much sharper. Optically the 20mm is much superior. It's smaller and lighter too.
Alas, its AF is slower, but fine in good light.
This isn't a review.
I have this lens with my pen F, and i want to buy the 12mm f/2. Necessary or not? Thank you Jimmy.
Big door for coming through on horseback. Small door for people on foot, or to allow one at a time. Security in small door.
Where is camp concentrasi ? In photo ?
I had the 17mm 2.8 pancake lens too...it was sharp and small...now my 1.8 stays on my Pen F...
Hi, I've just bought this lens, which is terrific. I can't get the focus peaking to work when the clutch is used for manual focus, is it the same for you? Focus peaking does work in normal use.
Thanks for the video
Hi! You think the EM5 ll with good lenses is enough for the professional photography?
I noticed on my last vacation that the shots where I used the Oly 60mm macro were -much- sharper than anything from the 17mm. Is that to be expected? I did have iso set to 800 on both (didnt notice). Pretty much all my 17mm shots dissapointed me and seemed to lack detail. Is that the iso, or does the macro lens make it look relatively bad?
Peter Thank you for this video which supported my decision to buy this lens. With all its abilities I have found it to be very versatile with great depth of field and an excellent addition to my kit !
Mostly while traveling I use the 12mmf2:0 and my 17mmf1:8 stay useless

No weather sealed alternative? :-(
Thanks for review & tip from Golden Era of street photographers. Also a I'd like to request a review of new Laowa 17mm f1.8, which recently went on sale in US at $149 with excellent reviews & what appears to have very good MTF scores, https://www.cinema5d.com/laowa-17mm-f-1-8-mft-lens-very-affordable-new-manual-prime/
Really liked the video and now I'm going to grab that lens out of my bag and give it some more use.
I am curious about the slide show. What software did you use with your images?
You have my like for presenting city of Oświęcim (german camp) Poland - well taken and edited for this specific place.
Yes, indeed, it is a very good lens. I am using it on my Pen-F, a very handy combo. I know that angle very well way back in the film era. When I was a teenager, I bought the Olympus XA (the tiny "capsule"-camera) with the 35mm lens. A really good way to improve photography and to learn much about to use the camera. Thank you for this very good video Peter!
Where is the Olympus 17mm f1.8 made? And what about the Pro line -- any made in Japan.
What do you think between this lens (Olympus 17mm F1.8) VS Panasonic Lumix G 20mm F1.7? What about us?
I've got this lens + the 25 and 45mm F1.8... I also have the 9mm f8 body cap lens for giggles and visual exaggerations. :)
Thanks for including the images you took with the lens it helps a lot.
Image quality between this lens and the 20mm olympus f 2.0? Who wins?
I like your camera bag please tell me company name and which site purchase thanks
