Hey thanks for your video.. Howz your experience with this lens for D850.. Are you fully satisfied.. I am planning for the same lens and camera.. .. any suggestions would be much appreciated
Didn't mention it takes the faster uhs-II sd cards and xqd cards as well
But where's the battery!!! Ahh it's ok everyone it's upstairs charging
Awesome video ! ...... Can I use just a regular sd card for just pictures ? Also will my PC handle the 46 megapixel raw file ? Do I have to convert my images before loading them into Lightroom ?
Still a Dream camera!
Hi. I want to purchase a camera and am confused between d850 and 5dm4 Can you please suggest/ guide which one is better?
Im lovin my d850!!!! nothing like having new toy's...
Own the Nikon D850, awesome camera, you will have lots of fun testing and using it, its just the best all around DSLR in the market today.
happy for you
Looks like a fantastic camera, not a fan of Nikon's button placement though.
That clip screws into the body & locks down the HDMI cable to the camera and also prevents the connection from getting loose causing dropouts & interruptions.
9 FPS are with the grip, right?
Hello sir..... Is D850 overpriced
First. Also, TCSTV proved that the 24-120 isn't sharp enough for the D850
Which Nikon camera you have used, give you the most pleasing images straight out of camera ?
Hey Vahagn! Heres my analysis of Nikons financials: Let me know what you think!
Love the pacing of your videos... no mad hyper editing, no bouncing off the walls like you're on speed. Just cool, calm delivery of information laced with interesting anecdotes, real world situations and useful tips....Love from Japan!Subbed!
Great lens and great review
My 3rd today and I have to tell you again how well you present the different lenses by covering their real life application and how they fit into your work and camera bag. I don't own this lens but I'm seriously considering it for exactly the purpose you cite: Compact with good reach if needed and sometimes you don't want to risk your best lenses going to the zoo. Good job, really, very good! Thank you and please keep on and stay safe! - Before I forget: Please could you reveal on what Nikon DSLR bodies you mount your lenses during this presentation and what are your preferred workhorses!
Vahagan your videos are amazing. Please show some of your work in your videos with exposure details. 24-70 always a sweet choice but 24-120 has more grip for distance shots. Nikon lovers never ignore any info about nikon. 80% pro photographers choice is nikon. Well done! Highly appreciated
Hi Vahagn - This lens is a strange case as it is truly an 'all arounder' that as a result compromises in every way: It has average IQ, it is not fast (f/4) and its VR is good but not great. It does have a compelling range however at 24-120 vs typical 24-70 making it interesting walk around lens if you can only take one.Years ago when I bought my D750, I opted to not buy this lens for the kit discount price and instead bought the Tamron 24-70 2.8 G2 lens. Years later, I purchased the Nikon 24-120 f/4 lens refurbished from Nikon for about $550. The Tamron lens is about $1,200 new and the Nikon 24-120 new is about $1,100. The Tamron smokes this lens in every way - it has much better IQ, its VR (which Tamron calls VC) is about 2 stops better and of course it is a 2.8 across the focal range rather than a 4 so it is a stop faster allowing for lower ISO in low light scenarios - they only way that the Nikon is better is in the extra reach from 70 to 120.When I bought the Nikon lens, I thought that I would use it more, but for the work I do, I really don't. It just isn't fast enough and the IQ isn't close enough to the Tamron or the primes that I use. I upgraded to the Z system a year and half ago, and the new 24-70 2.8 S is probably the best 24-70 ever made for any camera system, and the 24-120 is further left behind (of course the new lens is $2500 so there is a vast price difference). That said, as a purely walking around lens, or a vacation lens, I think that it is a good value proposition if you get it in a kit with your camera for about $500 or used for no more than about $500. It is worth $500 - it is definitely no worth $1,100.If you are into video as mentioned in your video, this lens is definitely not for you. The same can be said in general for most F mount lenses - they are loud to auto focus and most have considerable focus breathing. You mention the 24-200 lens for Z mount as an alternative, but that lens is a 4-6.3 variable aperture lens and most reviews confirm that it is one of the weaker lenses in the Z line up for IQ - as a travel lens it is probably sufficient, but for any real work or low light it is lacking.A better alternative if you absolutely need more range than 24-70 would likely be the upcoming 24-105 f/2.8-4 S lens for the Z system. As this lens is designed for the mirrorless platform and is an S line lens, its IQ will likely far exceed the 24-200 and certainly the F mount 24-120. Furthermore, as an S line lens, it will likely have very little focus breathing making it a much more competent video lens and although it is still a variable aperture, it is a 2.8-4 so it is faster across at least half of the focal lengths than the 24-120 and just as fast at the telephoto side. This is the lens that is the best replacement for a 24-120 not the 24-200. The 24-120 was meant to be a pro lens and so is the upcoming 24-105. The 24-200 is a travel/'tourist' lens.Final thoughts: As a backup lens the 24-120 can serve in a pinch, but I never reach for it in favor of the 24-70 2.8 and/or the entire line of new 1.8 primes for the Z mount - all of these lenses are just better in almost all respects save the focal range versatility - but again the upcoming 24-105 will almost match the focal length versatility of the 24-120 lens and offer superior IQ and also be faster. If you are looking for a lens like this, I think it would be smart to wait for this new lens to drop this year - unless you can pick up the 24-120 for a smoking deal - south of $500.Just my take.-B
This is probably the most underrated F mount lens, certainly the most underrated F mount zoom lens. I think most people that bad mouth it are people that either never had it or did but didn't know how to use it properly. Is it a perfect overall lens? No, of course not. It has plusses and minuses like all lenses. But its overall plus/minus is quite good. Its too bad Nikon decided the next version, the Z version, will be a 24-105. I really wish Nikon had either stuck with a 24-120 f4 or maybe even gone 28-135 f4.
Btw, about Eddie van Halen passing away - yeah it's sad. He was from The Netherlands originally, as am I.
I think your review is a good one. After I upgraded from a D7100 to a D750 I got the 24-70/2.8 G as well. But pretty soon I found out that it's just too heavy for what it is, for me. Then I got the 24-120/4 G as well. There are some things I don't like about it. I don't like the zoom creep. Also, the AF is slower compared to that 24-70. But the results speak for themselves. So it's not perfect, but I like it a lot. I also considered the 24-85/3.5-4.5 G. In terms of range I could have lived with that (I had the 17-55/2.8 G on the D7100 - AWESOME build quality & AF). But when I tried it in a shop, it seemed to be visibly less sharp, and I read it has pretty severe field curvature. I didn't like that on my 17-55 so I chose this one instead.
Just subscribed to your channel. Rock on from Scotland. Just bought a D780 it came with this lens. I also have a 16-35 f4 lens, and AF-P 70-300. I want to keep my D7200, but I will only keep it If I use it back and forward. Slainte
Excellent review.. some people dont like Lena like this because is a f4 but the reality general speaking if you have a f2.8 you dont used as 2.8 all the time , same thing with a 70-210 f4 , excellent lens , kind a sleeper lens , I have a e series of this , manual focus but it have a beautiful IQ even on my D7200 .. but as you saying in preview video if you depend on af lens maybe that one isnt right for a job.. keep up with the good reviews
Excellent event lens, makes me not want for a 70-200.
Hey Guys.. I just noticed I say 24-105 a few times in this video instead of 24-120 :) Maybe I had the 24-105mm in mind while shooting. Who knows hehe... Thought I would point that out there... Here's one thing I will never make a mistake saying... ROCK & ROLL!!!!!!
The 24-120 F/4 is a much better lens than Nikon's 28-300mm. I read reviews about how good the 28-300 lens is so I purchased one for travel but I was very disappointed. On my D850 and D780 the VR was unreliable and the sharpness was inconsistent. I purchased the 24-120 used for travel and I am much happier with it! Maybe I had a bad copy of the 28-300, who knows?. If I need even more reach I can also pack Nikon's 70-300 af-p lens for travel. I shoot stills only.
I love this lens! Some people bad mouth it but I have shot so many events with it and it never disappointed me!
Great video, have you ever experienced focal length creep especially when you're at 24 MM and the camera is facing down does the lens change it's focal length creeping toward 120mm,especially when walking around.
Its a surprisingly good lens and being F4 is not a hindrance.
Great, Vahagn! It's always a pleasure listening to your videos!.. Dom
i always prefer 24-120 VR over 24-70 Less price less weight more reach + VR., you could buy this lens +85 1.8G + 50mm 1.8 for that price.
At 6:20 the camera is dangerously kept on the railing
f8 very sharp. 506 very good. f4 very pin point focus.
perfect lens to shoot huge dining tables. i use dx mode occasionally.save my back as i don't need to stretch
tokina lens upfront......good joke. 24-120 f4........the best all-rounder
I have this lens...I've gotten some amazing bokeh photos whith it.
Any one else see the cannon lens gravity creep
Thanks - You are awesome. Subcribed
My setup D800 & 24-120 4.0G VR, 7 years later . . .Funny videos, average photography though.
Has this guy never sex?
For the price, it is a great 'walkabout' lens. The focal range is really useful, it issharp edge-to-edge with little vignetting and chromatic aberration on afull frame. It is also sturdy with a reassuring solid feel. I have it onmy D810 most of the time, even though I also have the brilliant Nikon14-24mm and the latest Nikon 70-00mm. The main minus point with thislens is, as he says, the barrel and pincushion distortion but, if you can affordPhotoshop, you can correct it with this application.
What a idiot!
I miss these videos. I miss the old DRTV
The worst reviewer on the Net!
This lens is good for travellingIf you're a portrait shooter getA 50 & 85 1.8 g for this price
So, where is the review ? NO LIKE
Hi bro i have one questionI saw your videos you are using most of time fx lenses on dx bodies is it good?I want to use nikon af 24-120mm lens with my nikon d7500 body is it good combination?Waiting for your answer
I love this lens. I have already compared her raws to that of the 24-70 lens and they are the same. The difference is in the lens aperture. A great Nano Crystal lens.
Such a shame to have these idiots on youtube
i m still looking for better bokeh than this oneAny body tell me the bokeh king plz? any lens...
Bokeh looks great to me
Is this normal ?I just attached the kit 24-120 f/4 VR lens to my new Nikon D780. I aligned the white dots from the camera and lens and rotated the lens until it clicked, the camera focus correctly and take the shots. However, I noticed a gap between the lens and the body in which part of the metallic ring shows up between the camera and lens. Is that normal ? I think this gap exposing the ring will attract all dirt that eventually will get into the sensor when I detach the lens. Also I can see that defect here in this video in minute marker 1:55 to 2:50
Is this and a d750 still a relevant camera lens combo in 2020? I saw a great deal online and I'm thinking about pulling the trigger
The lens is still a little over 1,000 dollars
Does it work with nikom z6? I saw you put the 28-300mm on your z7. I wonder if this lens works well too, its Autofocus, sharpness, contrast. Etc. Thanks..
good info man.
The D750 corrects it all in camera so you never see any distortion etc. The 24-120 is an awesome lens.
Thank you for the awesome video!! :) very helpful
If I get the Nikon d750/d610. What are decent All-in-One lenses do you recommend me to get for under $800?
I find this interesting and useful lens, after my 24-70mm f/2.8
Nice images there!
I took a look at your gallery and found you to be a very good photographer and the 24-120mm f4 a great lens! Gonna buy one after watching your pictures. A must have lens.
Got this lens with my D750 3 years ago.In that time I've had a chance to try the older non VR xx - 70 f2.8 lenses. The push pull 35 70, the gigantic 28-70 and the newer non VR 24-70. In my non scientific, completely subjective opinion, I think they're all pretty damn good image quality.Slight edge in image quality to the 24-70. Major advantage in versatility to the 24-120.
I checked out your gallery, and Im so impressed with the shots you got with this lens! Great style!
I have Nikon d5500, is it good for my camera for video wedding
anyone know what that symbol is between the 28 and 24mm and why it doesn't go to 24?
Hi, what did you use to record this video? The video looks very crisp. Thanks
awesome photo gallery.
I love this lens. I find the vibration reduction excellent. I could be shaking like a bare butt nudist in the middle of Antarctica and I wouldn't take one blurry image. Obviously, it's not as sharp as the 24-70mm f/2.8 that I own, but that lens doesn't have VR, plus it's heavier, and a lot more expensive. Nikon's new 24-70 does have VR, but it's even heavier than the old one, and super expensive. The 24-120 balances better on my Nikon d750 than the 24-70. The 24-70 is only about 1/2 lb heavier, but it seems top heavy to me. Don't believe what Ken Rockwell and some others say about this lens. He likes the Nikon 28-300mm lens better. Go the DXO Mark website and it will tell you that the 24-120 is a better lens. DXO Mark is considered by many the Consumer Report of cameras and lenses. I won't buy a camera or lens until I read their test results. This lens gives you the extra reach that the 24-70 can't. The Sigma 24-105mm f/4 Art lens is sharper according to DXO Labs, but you lose 15mm. You can buy this lens used, like I did over the internet for $500 or less. That's a lot of bang for your buck! I'm not a pro photographer, so I haven't noticed any vignetting or distortion.
I have noticed something frustrating regarding this' lens vibration reduction. I completely know that once you press the shutter button, you will hear immediately the clunk, meaning that VR is on.The thing is, when I quickly pick my camera and point to a subject very fast (grab shots) and activate VR, I can see still camera shake in the viewfinder even after the clunk sound and settles down after 3 or 4 seconds. Very different when you hold your camera as steady as you can and point/focus to your subject and activate VR, it stabilizes as soon as you press it. Oh yeah, im noticing this with longer focal length
Thanks for video
