Dude how can you say that it is expensive compared to the Z cameras that at the same price have NOT the cost of the optical finder and the mirror mechanism Some of your takes are really so biased and ignorant. May be a marketing bias?
They took it off OBVIOUSLY because they wanted to make it more weatherproof. Btwdo you really need the ridiculous onflash ? Then buy a less expensive camera, for amateurs .
If the D780 is pretty much the Z6 (and Z 6II), then it could be the better choice for fast moving action tracking thanks to the OVF which doesn't have a delay.
Oh, I checked this video 11months ago and at that point D780 doesn't appeal that much to me because of the pressure from Z side. But after I had touched the Z series and understand the EVF, I need to check this video again. You both described very well and accurately pointed the merit of OVF as well. And I realized that D780 is the well designed hybrid camera indeed. Thank you!
Thank you for the video. I’m planning to purchase my very first DSLR - Nikon D750 with (85mm 1.8 + 50mm 1.8 G lens). I’m wondering is it still worth to buy this camera considering 5 years old?. Purpose of buying a camera is for taking Portraits, Still, Landscape, Bird, Product photography (learning) and of course my kids. It would be really great if you throw some lights on my concern to make a wise decision other options I have considered is Nikon D780 with one of the lens and Z6ii with the kit lens. D780 is a phenomenal camera. The thing D750 guys wanted was video, and now they have it. In fact, really good video. You get to choose between a DSLR D780 or mirrorless Z6 II. Great to have choices.
This was a good preview of this camera. After more than a year of mirrorless, I'm thinking about getting a DLSR again and this one is on my radar.

Faced with my D750 acting up a bit (possibly due to overuse - it has been a workhorse in last few years), the D780 looks attractive as replacement. Currently the D780 is priced "the exact same cost" as a new Z6ii in Canada at $2699 CDN dollars. Why pick a DSLR D780 over the newer mirrorless z6ii when D780 lacks ibis in video mode. Well, the DSLR still has great autofocus in still mode from phase detect in low light (for faster lock on in low light when compared to z6 so it beats mirrorless for now) as this video above states, that is a strong advantage. As a primary still photo user with lots of FX lenses, and with only occasional video use, the DSLR just makes better sense. And a larger grip for hand holding. For video, most videos would be on tripod for vlogging or interviews, product shoot video, so Ibis is not as much needed. My input to anyone considering a D780.
he said he was missing the eye focus and had the eye lashes in focus . so let me get this straight , is the goal to get the eyes in focus and rest of face and photo OUT OF FOCUS ?

I just bought D780 to replace my sony A6600.
@7:30 I found the focusing to be a bit of a pain on my Z6 in very low light situations. Has been a real pain when shooting some events. That's why I'm looking at a D780 or second-hand D4S as a second body. I'm finding that in some situations I want that optical viewfinder back. Also when shooting with flash in dark situations. I still have all F-mount glass so it would be native. Finally Nikon hasn't realised a proper vertical grip for the Z6. Try shooting with a Z6 with a 70-200 on an FTZ adaptor in portrait orientation for a few hours!

No one mentions the ergonomic differences of using F-mount lenses with adapter on Z series. Small bodies for larger lens + adapter , not the best. I really found out about ergonomics when I first used an old pentax film SLR and realised how much Better the shooting and carrying experience was . Night and day. I grew to hate my mirror less camera overnight, actually made me angry how bad the ergonomics were. Admittedly this was a light Sony APSC camera, but ergonomics are so important and rarely addressed when discussing adapted lenses. Consider ergonomics over features is my message, you'll be glad for it. Also small lenses rule ;)
Two massive problems with the D780: 1, No vertical grip. 2, The model number is just painted on - it isn't a badge
I can't wrap my head around this or the Sony a7III as a camera to stick Sigma glass onto. I couldn't care less about the video capabilities of a camera. As much as I'd love a Z6, the price tag of their Z mount 24-70 f/2.8 makes me feel ill.
