I have the VR1 version of this lens and I love it. I buy all my gear used so every now and then I run across some sleeper lenses no one talks about. Look for the 80 - 200mm G Nikkor. no VR but great rendition and color for $50. Worth looking for. If you want a tank of a tele zoom I would recommend the 70-210mm D WOW what a lens. I'm retired now and I have to watch what I spend to used gear is the way to go to save money.
What's the difference between the older version (Nikon AF-S 55-200mm VR) and this newer version (Nikon AF-S 55-200mm VR II)? Cheers!

I just bought this lens imgs.love/Nikon55?de a week ago to complement my D5600. This lens is sharp even with large openings, the VR (image stabilizer) works very well, the speed of auto-focus is more than acceptable (very fast), and it is very light and compact.
I am just trying out this lens. I got it with the camera, used, and it seems to get pretty good pictures, however; when operating the zoom, it wants to stick and chafe half the time - cheap plastic? - and the extension-tube 'wiggles' a bit, kinda loose? Overall, the d5500 body seems like a perky little all-around tool, and shoots very acceptable video, too. A lot more to learn, this is my first 'modern' camera..recommended by my video production teacher over the..7000, I think I was looking at. Thanks for the overview, ~c.

Hi..... I mainly do landscapes.... I want to purchase a 100mm square filter system. Does the lens have an internal focus...asking as I don't want the lens barrel to move whilst auto focusing.....and if I am using a polarizer I don't want to set up then have to readjust if I need to refocus. I hope my question makes sense.

How do you keep the light constant while zooming in 1:21 with the 18-55? My aperture changes while Im zooming with that objetive. I've never done a zoom in video cos of that :(

There are many complaints about the Lens failing to auto-focus at some point. It's just rotating making a slide noise trying to focus. Mine started the problem some weeks ago. Plz help😭

I used non-vr version at some point. The lens is very good. But after 10 or even 12 years of use, the focusing motor stopped working and I have to repair it.

the main purpose of this lens is to be as much travel friendly as possible, it's light and compact and perfect for that purpose. I'm using mine as my *only* lens when I go camping (believe it or not!)

Because I know how to focus I know photography I can get a good low light shot with any lens. I really do like the.kit lens 18 55 mm dx lens though. It cheap but really does focusing good. I took it to a museum in Massillon ohio I took it to pro football Hall of fame canton ohio. I took low light shots it with really nice. Over all.i give it 8 out 10 . I also took it took photos hall of fame inside but the photo sharp. The quality cheap. It light. The lens is plastic
If you call it a kit lens then you're likely a Prosumer = spending $$$ on looks and convenience is more important to you than ability and value. Calling a lens 'kit lens' is dumb and misrepresents the 'value' of a given lens. The Nikon 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 is considered a 'low-value' lens because of this. Considering the 18-55mm is sharp, has vibration reduction (VR) and can be used on a full format (FX) body as a very capable 24-55mm 'VC lens', it surpasses many far more expensive FX lenses without VR. Yet, Prosumers will continue to call it a 'kit lens' and dismiss its value because.... Prosumers are idiots. Another great DX lens you can use on FX is the 35mm f1.8. You can also use the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 at 16mm!
