seriously who shoots at max aperture ? even 1.8 is rarely used after 37 years using all manner of lenses its either 2.8 - f4 on a 50 or 85mm , go for the 1.8 g its a gem at the price and prove me wrong

Considering this lens for shooting bands in low light conditions. Shooting at 3.5 doesn't cut it, especiallywhen the lights go from white to yellow, blue and red. Yes, still using a d3100 DX camera.

I have the Nikon D3400 and thinking about buying an 85mm f/1.8. Is it a bad idea? I have my kit lens for shooting landscape and that's enough for me for the moment but I was considering buying the 85mm 1.8 for portraits and I recently started shooting amateur theatre performances.

How does the focusing ring feel on this? Ive been looking for peoples opinions on various reviews but havent found anything yet. What Im trying to avoid is the plastic-on-plastic feel I have on my 35 1.8. I love the feel of the rubbery focusing ring on my 85mm 3.5

at 8 foot you cant use 1.8 your into f4 ..so its pointless buying a 1.4 when your shooting at f4 to keep the eye and nose sharp

What happened to this channel?
Its sharp... but it flares terribly, has hazy hotspots, 'plastic looking' bokeh and major chromatic aberration. In daylight or contrasty environments it creates cheap looking images. In shade or flat lighting its flaws will be hidden. If you do headshots, product photography or anything where you only have to focus 6ft in front of you then its great. The lens really does look like a pile of shit at long distances, unless you stop it down (which makes it redundant). Save up and get the 85 1.4g if you are serious about photography (or your time) so you don't spend hours fixing in photoshop.

the 1.8 g is a good lens but not a special one..Tje 1.4g is much better way better in all aspects and sharper too so the 85 1.8g is not the sharpest 85 nikon makes..But if you want a super sharp and special lens try the sigma 85mm 1.4 art even sharper the the zeis..Dxomark 51 .a lens that blows all nikkor lenses for just 1200 $.

It's seriously flawed as it's a crop sensor, so it's not actually 85mm its roughly a 127 mm on the D7000

haha brilliant your photos prove my point entirely , why i got rid of the 1.4 for the quality of the 1.8 and price .. you rarely get to use 1.4 OR 1.8 even at 2.8 -4 background blurr is great .. no pro.s get to use 1.4 - 1.8 light is rarely that in your favour and distance for head and shoulders the widest apertures dont give the dof you need from ears to nose .. just doesnt happen . this video proves it , real world photos

I'm a videographer looking to get my first telephoto lens. I am looking at the 85mm, currently using a Nikon Z6. However, I'm trying to decide between the 1.8 S or get the cheaper 1.8 G... have you had experience comparing these two and which you would recommend? My workflow is 90% video and 10% photo. The purpose of this lens is to get close up shots of computer components. Mainly used for B-roll. What are your thoughts?
i have this lens and to be honest i have used it once since the last 4 years.maybe because at the time i purchased it i was still learning how to use my camera. i have been hooked on using my 50mm Sigma art lens for 90% of my work. i tried using the Nikon 85mm 1.8g lens the other day and i saw a bunch of noise in my photos i shot indoors natural light. i want the Nikon 85 1.8g lens to grow on me i really do. i decided to leave it on my camera and just shoot with that for a while and hope i end up loving it as much as my sigma lens lol

Hey, man. I went for the Sigma 85 1.4 Art and I kinda regret as it is very heavy, the focus is slower and though it has some ups on image quality, it's freaking heavy and huge. Plus, it means a ton of extra work on the editing afterwards
