Great review that I totally agree with. In fact if you think about it a bit, you could argue having soft corners with slight vignetting is what you want wide open, because you're more likely to be shooting a subject you want to separate from the surrounding. You only really need sharp corners if you're doing landscape work, when you'll be stopped down anyway for the depth of field.
Iam using 50mm1.8g with my z6 But when I shot f1. 8 the image is not sharpe. And i saw some vignette Pls reply why?

Great videos. Do you do a front and back focus test before doing your final lens test? Friendly info to everyone! To test my focus on all my lens to my different camera body's, I put an ink Dot on a page of sharp text, camera on tripod on manual setting, lens VR off, I set flash on TTL Auto, camera at 1/200 iso 50 to kill ambient light, single center auto-focus point and I refocus for every test photo I take. I shoot the ink Dot at approx. 35 degree angle @ f/1.8 2.8 4 5.6 8 Just look if the ink Dot is sharp, or is the text in front or back of the ink Dot sharper. You can do this test with manual lens too. Some cameras can fine tune focus. Great shooting, have fun!

review. But nobody mentions one problem with this lens and that is focus shift between f2 to f4. Mirrorless users will have no worries but on my D610 it is a problem. Live view is not always a solution in many situations. My micro adjustments are as follows: f1.8 -5 f2.2 -8 f2.8 -10 f3.2 -12 f4 -14 After f4 depth of field resolves the problem. Otherwise a sharp, light lens best at f 5.6

The older Nikkor 50 mm "D" is sharper than the newer "G" model you reviewed here. The 'D' version is also cheaper.
Very good review as usual. I have used this lens for a couple of years, on a D5100 (aps-c, 16MP). It was exactly as described. I still own it and it is great fun actually, so I hope that I will be able to use it on a larger sensor. Now that you review Nikon stuff as well, I would really appreciate a review of the Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G. I am really curious of how usable it is. Thanks in advance.

I had this lens. Works great, it is one of the powerhouses lens on my D700. Today I am using Z6 and 50 1.8Z, however I still like the color from the old setup. It was deeper and has more taste.

I think it fair to add for those who are not aware, that if you’re using this 50mm lens on a camera with an aps-c sensor or crop sensor it’s actually shooting at 75mm. Because of the 1.5x crop factor. 50mm X 1.5 = 75mm. In case anyone is trying to compose a shot and know what they are actually shooting. Cheers

d5700 will go with the lense?
I think 35mm (35 X 1.5 crop factor = 52 mm) is better than 50mm on an APSC camera, bcz 50mm would be too long (with crop factor in apsc) for daily uses

Unless there is something you know that I don't know, I'm sure that for freezing motion this lens is not good. I tried this lens in All-Star cheer competitions and it just doesn't work. For portraits is awesome.
