13:25 - why do you say that if they made it as a crop lens it would be amazing for D500 users? this lens should work great on a D500; why wouldn't it? FX lenses work perfectly fine on DX camera bodies.

Folks, I suggest looking at some pro reviews. The 200-500 is absolutely sharper than the 80-400 and doesn't exhibit the terrible breathing that ruins the reach of the smaller lens for closer work. Likely these folks have a poor copy or didn't tune it correctly. Plenty of reviews and samples prove that the 200-500 is VERY close to the primes and an easy match for the 200-400 F4, which is an older design that still has advantages for low light and focus. If you can handle the size of the 200-500 and the zoom range is workable, it is superior to the more expensive 80-400 VR, which I eventually got rid of.

Just saw your review of the 200-500 Nikkor lens. I have this lens & love it. I was trying to find a way to carry it & other camera equipment for hiking too. I found a backpack that I like & would highly recommend. It's the MindShift BackLight Elite 45L I can fit it with the camera & lens hood attached & extended, along with other lenses & equipment. Hi. I've used the sigma 150-500mm F/5.0-6.3 APO HSM DC OS on my Nikon cameras. I think it's a little lighter weighing at 1780g and I'm not sure but might be smaller. It's a great lens and I've used it for wildlife and air shows with great results.

Carrying that setup without a strap is giving me mini heart attacks.
Tried this lens but struggled with low light or under floodlights.

I had this lens. The only issue I had with it was the long throw of the zoom.
adobe lightroom on a d850 .i should expect decent crops without editing software ! i can mega crop with the 200 2.8 vr2 . without pissing about at a desk .

Note regarding the AF: you can limit the focusing distance, so it will acquire much quicker. That coupled with using continous with group mode gives you the best AF results, generally speaking.
