Nikon 105mm F1.4 "Real World Review": The BEST Sharpest Portrait Lens I've Ever Used
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 105mm F1.4E ED Product Overview
Nikon 105mm F/1.4E Hands On Review
NIKON 105MM 1.4E - 1 YEAR REVIEW...THE ULTIMATE PORTRAIT LENS?? D850 z6 z7 IMAGES!!
Hello Jared, do you think this will do well on a D7200, am currently using a D3200 and want to upgrade, your videos are always straight to the point and you say it as it is.
How come Theoria Aphophasis hate this lens while you love it? I will buy one. I think Theoria is an arrogant ugly bastard. Please answer. ❤
nice....it is very difficult to get that tack sharp focus right where you want it at 1.4!
OMG, you shoot RAW ???? It's OK, I still like you :o)
Great video. I enjoy your reviews , detailing what you are doing/shooting and explaining why. I don’t own most of products you review or have your professional equipment (i.e studio flashes) but like to see results they provide). Always great energy, making me want to go out and shoot on as a novice. Thank you for what you do. 🙂
Jared,. Do you still think this is the sharpest portrait lens in the market? Do you have a comparison video between this and more recent mirrorless 85mm or 50mm?
Porsh? It is Porsheh.
Jared, can you help? You say: and eventually you shoot at f/2.8 in studio conditions. I would really like to own this gear but seems like  the Tokina 100mm f/2.8 D or the Nikkor 105mm f/2 D are just as fine. Can you do a comparison of the f/1.4 vs. the others at same aperture or share some feelings about this?
Hey Jared, Did you ever do a test shoot in a crossfit gym with this lens? I swear like a sailor I saw a video of you testing a 105mm in a gym. If you did, I can't find the video.
well sigma 105mm 1.4 is sharper
My question is what’s the difference between this version and the f/2.0 version DC? I like the old Japanese glass better than the Chinese.
Could you do a review on the Nikon f2.8 105mm micro, been trying to find good reviews but can’t find one.
So your not in continuous focus as of the beginning of the video but your shooting multiple shots (in case of movement) wouldn’t you be better off in continuous with multiple shots?.
I need help! Should i upgrade my body from D750 to D850 if you have the money or get the Nikon 105mm f1.4? my current gear is: NikonD750 85mm F1.4 24-70mm F2.8 70-200mm F2.8
Porsche parking!!! hilarious. nice vid
What’s the mini camera he has on top
I got it and I totally love it!! The best portrait lens ever!!!
Josh is so good.
Jared I have a challenge for you. Would love to see how it performs at something like Basketball.
I have this lens coming in the mail tomorrow...it was an impulse buy,...but judging from the pics taken with it on flickr, Im disapointed. Vignettes too much wide open, crappy-swirly bokeh, and the color it renders looks terrible. it will probably be going back on ebay
Thanks Again for the advice & tips on shooting with the nikon 105mm 1.4g lens
I consider buying this lens to my Z6, and at the moment you say that this lens would be sweet with a camera that has in body stabilization I became happy!
Hello. Many thanks for your video. I have a question for you. Since you were at time of video, looking to get a hold of the Tamron 70-200 F2.8 G2, and I just bought one, as well as a D800 body, I have a question/comment. Prior to acquiring my D800 (about a month ago), I had been shooting with my D7100 (crop) with FX and DX lens...various lengths and have been very satisfied with VERY sharp results (still and moving subjects). BUT...now that I have the D800 and G2 and other lens, I found my images are much more noticeably softer. All necessary adjustments have been made/tested (faster than focal length shutter speed, varying f-stops-fastest to stopped down fully, AF on or off-used manual focusing with confirmation...blah...blah...) and my images look so soft and I have to really sharpen in post (pain). I have used single spot focal point (nose or closest eye)- not better. BTW...where were your focusing on your model? Closest eye...nose...forehead? You shots look sharper than mine. Are YOU experiencing this with shots in this video or any with your camera body regardless of lens? I also have AF focus set to "release" most of the time, so if the mage is NOT in focus, it doesn't snap. I'm just trying to get comparisons and thoughts to see if this camera body behaves this was by it's nature (no "razor sharp images") or is it me. Oh...my hand holding technique is very good as well...same as on D7100 with sharper images. Thanks for your time (sorry for such long comment/question, but wanted to list all I tried in hopes on alleviating some of the subsequent questions that may be asked and hopefully see if it's me...the lens...or the camera. Thanks for your patience.
When shooting at F/1.4, set the camera on continuous high to mitigate camera shake and potential movement of your subject. The DoF is razor thin at that aperture. Squeeze off 4 or 5 shots. The 3rd and 4th shots should be the sharpest. Also, how fast or slow is the focusing speed on this lens? Thanks. I really enjoy your videos.
How sigma 85mm f1.4 art stacks up agaist this Nikon badboy ??
What I look for in a portrait lens is a shallow DOF accompanied by an Angle of View that is sufficient to place the subject group within the environment. That is to say, I look for an environment that speaks about the particular human subject and the angle of view should (for me) capture sufficient of that background without it becoming a distraction but that it ( the background) should enhance the portrait by providing an out of focus backdrop on which the subject appears to render three dimensionally. The combo that used to do this with the greatest compatibility in my personal opinion was the old Mamiya RB67 with its 127mm lens. These days I prefer the nikkor 85mm 1.4 lens on the D800 which provides me with a fairly close substitute. I like both the Nikkor 200 f2.8 or 135 f2.0 for individual subjects as these lenses don't isolate the subject as much as say the f2.0 and 1.4 lenses. I don't shoot much fashion, but if I did, the nikkor 300 2.8 is a great lens for compression and isolation.
you should compare it to the legendary nikon 105mm 2.5
everytime I see your face, Jeremy I keep on seeing my highschool classmate's face from 3 decades ago. he sure looked like you!
what do you think of the 105 DC F2?
I want to see that 200 mm f/2 lens compared. Not everyone is so wimpy as to not be able to carry a lens around, especially if they don't know how it performs. Get off your duff and review the best glass one can get.
Awesome review!
Thanks for the video Jeremy.
wow....I enjoyed your hands on gear reviews...but you drop the ball 9n this one. What happen?
How about a comparison with the older Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G VR micro? If we dig through some literature on Nikkor.com, that lens was designed with portraiture in mind. Which might explain the irritating focus breathing at macro distances, but shockingly fast AF speed (for a macro lens). Plus it lets the photographer get very close for artistic rendering of facial details (lips, eyes, etc.) Would be interesting to see how the older lens compare to the newer options. Nice video and good work btw. 😊
When ever i see pictures from this lens, i have to say......they look ugly flat! There is no soul or "that special look" Pictures from the 105 DC are much more beautiful!
