what is the main difference between this macro one and my nikon AF-S dx 18-55mm 3.5 - 5.6g vr? my intentional use is to take photos of t shirts that are laid down on a backdrop that is on the ground. i need to pretty much take the picture from like 4 feet or 5 ft distance from the ground up. would i need a macro lens or do you think the one i have should be fine? i pretty much did not want to use t shirt templates so i rather take a actual picture of my shirts and post them online.thank you for your time!

Hey there. One quick question. I'm looking for something simple to use for shooting pipes and watches for my shop. I don't need anything fancy, just a simple solution to shoot photos in my light box with nice details. I would use Nikon d90. I have a tripod and softbox setup. Important thing is I don't need to shoot really close. I just need as much details as I can get of example smoking pipe. Can you please help me and reccomend me a lens? Thank you very much
I use a Nikon 55mm 2.8 ais micro lens on my Fx and Dx cameras for product and portraits.Sooo sharp and built like a tank.
I use it on a d610 for food photography and the vignetting is very very low, you can easily eliminate it. Try it out on a fx!

I also use this excellent lens with the Nikon ES-1 Slide Copying Adapter & find it to be a better option than using a separate slide scanner to scan 35mm transparencies

I'm lost between 2 lenses. I want a macro lens but I also want to use it for portraits as well...I'm currently debating between this lens and the Tokina 100mm f2.8 for my Nikon D5300. Should I give up the AF feature and get the longer lens (Tokina) or have AF capability and get the shorter lens? idkkkk help lol
The lens has extending internal barrel. I've a lens of 18-105mm which is seriously affected with fungus even though I I took good care of it. This 40mm macro also have the same extending barrel which can take moisture and water droplets into internal elements. Did it also gets affected with fungus. Should I consider 35mm f1.8 instead though it doesn't have an extending barrel and has internal focusing mechanism.

I bought this lens about a year ago but I don't like how the focus ring feels at all. It's so sticky and catches. It makes it hard to focus manually. I used in a small studio setup where I needed to do very small changes to the focus but it was too difficult. I ended up getting some software and tethering it to my computer which was a pain because the D3300 doesn't work with a lot of tethering software. I think it'll work better outside taking macro shots of bugs, flowers, etc.
