I'm somewhat new to this, was using kit lenses believing as many say (It's all about how you shoot) some claim to take better pics using technique verses great lens. I fell for that, and had a d7200 and d850 with crap lenses. Yesterday got my 70/200mm prime. Went to mountains and shot same things I usually do. And folks!!! The lens makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE!!! Bottom line. Wwwow!!! Now all I'll ever own are prime type and 2 zooms
I get haze on my 20mm D lens too. I had it taken in for cleaning but was told there was nothing that could be done. Very noticeable when I shoot a bright point of light.
I still can not believe old D lens is this bad at F11 and other apertures as well. Something just doesn't feel right about this lens.

I got mine today, it is 20mm 2.8 (non D version, so even older). When I ordered it I jumped to youtube and searched any reviews about it, and bumped into this which made me feel so disappointed. I tested it today and I must admit that it is not an extra sharp lens, but on the other hand I don't think it is blurry and milky as you have shown. It is really great focal length as you described, like a full human eye range including periferal, you can basically make a selfie if you hold a camera infront of your head with your nose couple of inches from the top element, just make sure it is within a minimum focus distance. But there are probably much sharper wide options to consider. I took this because it is small, compact, built like a tank, not so expensive. I would rate it 7/10.

with all due respect testing a scratched lens with haze against a clean one is just a waste of time in any regards. change the title maybe. hazy lens vs clean lens.
Can you compare worn tyres with new ones?.....NO.........How can you compare a haze up scratched lens with a new one?.... this is one of the dummest videos I I have ever seen.
I’d bought the 24mm 2.8 D lens and few months back and soled it after a few weeks. Somehow I think many older lenses don’t cut the mustard these days with these modern cameras. There are too many compromises. I think I’d prefer to be without and just wait to get something acceptable.
did you check that the D lens with the camerabody didn't need an AF alignment?
I learnt from this video to move to Fuji with their 14mm lens. Smaller, better.

Thanks for the video. I shifted from D750 to Z6 recently. I shoot both still and video. But now started loving making videos more. Should I move to Z lenses for that? Or can use my exciting F lenses (50/1.8, 70-200 vr2)? I have heard that for video focus tracking Z lenses are better. Does that matter? Is the focus breathing on continuous focus too concerning? Is that extra money worth?

The Z6 can adjust aperture like normal on adapted D series lenses. You don't need to use the ring.

Considering 28mm 2.8d for z6 but not sure about not having autofocus
Nikon seems to always had an edge over other manufactures especially in wide/ultrawide lenses...

I took notes on someone commented on someone else Nikon Z6 video. They had mention that 24+30 wide lens best for Landscape.

I will say it again, you inspired me to do street photography, especially these days with the Pandemic closures and current riots. I’m curious, electronic F mount lenses do not work with Z series cameras with FTZ Mount? Also it looks like you prefer not to use camera strap.

Oh man...So torn. I've been mauling these primes over for months, and just can't decide. I'll be working in close proximity for portraits as I'm restricted on space from camera to subject. I am not planning on using it for landscape at all. I was leaning towards the 24 1.4...but looks like the 1.8 is where its at. Till I saw this video, lol. Now I'm thinking of hunting down that elusive 20mm 3.5 AIS if I'm not mistaken. I would prefer a prime, but a little zoomage would be nice. I have the D750. Thoughts?
I bought a used 20mm f1.8 g used which was very very hard to find, however the focus ring is a bit lose because of excessive use . The problem that i am facing with this lens is that in LIVE VIEW the focus is 10/10 where as without live view it seems a bit off , i have tried the microfocus adjustment but it still seems off as compared to live view. Any advice with respect to the problem i am facing. Kind regards Nabeel

Just sold my nikon d5000 and got a very good condition d700 with two battery grips. I took your advice and got myself a nikkor 20mm f3.5 ai version. And you are very right about this lens ease of focus and fun of use. I have never owned a manual lens and was skeptic how it easy it would be to zoom. It is no problem and this lens is now my favorite lens along with the Tokina 100mm at-x pro d which I also got on your recommendation.
