That little dog was so tiny, I can see why it was necessary to shoot it with a macro lens. ps. I have this lens and love it - I use it for high detail portraits on D810 & D3x. I previously had the G (AF-S) version and I prefer this AF-D version. PPS I used to own a D7100 and believe it is a very under-rated camera. For the used price these days, you are getting a real bargain - both lens & camera.
i still got mine from before the digital age and use it on a Nikon d 7000,, wonderful combo.
I have a question, so the 60 mm is a whole lot better than a 40 mm for macro?, or there isn't a great difference, because the price difference is important and i don't know what to choose
WOW, I just picked one up for $30.
Got mine coming Thursday.
Great review!
alguna lente macro para nikon d3400
Will this work well on my Nikon Z 7 with the adapter?
I have this lens on my d3300 but will only work if the aperture is set at f/32 have tried other f/stops but will not work just reads lock onto min f/stop.
Getting this lens for my Z6 (FTZ) but I can’t anyone to confirm that this takes full advantage of the Full Frame digital chip esp for Video! I also have a DSLR D7100 that can shoot (uncompressed) 4K video but it would better fit in my workflow if I could use this with my Z6 - now using HDMI to record ProRes RAW onto my Ninja V recorder - but I’m not sure about those “cropped” issues with legacy Nikkor lenses?
After doing research, looking at the 60mm forslide transfer and macro and regular 60mm photos instead of the 40 mm. Question is with the 60 mm nikon is there a difference for slide transfer with the AF Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8D vs the AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm F2.8G ED? or only difference is the aperture setting ring ? using on the d500. Thanks Tom
dxomark score of g version is *very average*, and afd is *excellent*, on par with tokina 100 f2.8. tokina 35mm f2.8 dx is a nifty one too, works just fine for macro on fx too
I got one used and put it on my Z6, works great!
i just bought a D3500 which ofcourse is a DX aps-C …. will I have any problem?
Got mine on D7100 the sharpness is another story DaMn
Thank s A lot
Thank you for your review. Very nicely done.
Great review.
Thanks,
I found this lense on Facebook in Perth for a hundred bucks
I have a Nikon d3400 will this be ok
The largest aperture I can get is 3.2 I cant get it to 2.8 Anyone know what reason(s) exist for that?
If on your finger nail it was an injury ( dark dot) then it is cleared by now , if not please check it with a dermatologist.
No images taken with this lens
it's a great lens for sure
tnx for this info.
Just got one of these yesterday from -owned but in mint condition for £199 ($254 / 228 Euros). Its razor-sharp and the auto-focus is fast and very accurate on my Nikon D500.
Just got this lens, reference this if you get confused when you use it: is a fantastic objective. Found cheap if dust inside. Here I show how to clean that dust one today in mint condition although i have the 105VR. This is a gem. Great for use on bellows imo.
Got mine on D7100 the sharpness is another story DaMn
Thank s A lot
Just bought it , is this a good macro option for my d750 full frame?
Great video and the photos are awesome ! Mine was delivered today in near mint condition for $250.first heard it mentioned by the Angry Photographer, but you backed up his praise of this lensi fooled around a little with it today, and wow !. I bought it knowing it was only manual focus on my body, but if you cant turn a focus ring, maybe get the G version, which I heard is not as good as this old girl.thanks !
I don't like the lack of manual override for autofocus, no vibration reduction and no internal focusing which means accidents can happen, and dusts goes in. A very old design in the 90s.
Nikon called its macro lenses 'micro' because it has magnification of 1:10 to 1:1, Nikon has true macro lenses in the earlier days that is beyond 1:1 magnification, up to 40:1 for microscope use.
I picked up this very lens on eBay a few years back for $230.
Cant autofocus with D3200. Waste of money
How is the non-D compared to D version
do the filter treads spin as the barrel extends with focus?
Can't AF on the Nikon D5000 series.
At 2.8 is it sharp or should it be stopped down lower?
Omg your photographs are so fantastic Great! I'm happy that I've bought that lense used for 210€
Great video thanks, I love this lens One of my favourites.
It's weird: I've thought for years I should have this lens (in screw-drive version) but somehow, whilst buying other stuff, I never got round to the 60 micro AF-D. That is until yesterday when I saw a bargain just too good to ignore and I ordered it. With my new D810, I knew for sure I would have a good one when the used prices hit my target. That finally happened recently & I am happy with it. A D850 will take probably take another 18 months - 2 yrs, but I'll get there in the end. For now, I will enjoy testing out my £159 bargain 60mm Micro on my bargain £849 D810. It will be more of a mid range lens for those super sharp iris, facial hair and skin detail style portraits of weather-beaten old guys (like David) LOL. ps. I already have an old screw-drive Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro so the 60mm & 70mm will fight it out and the looser will get sold.
Great "walkthrough"!
Dann! I did not know what this marker on the body is. Now I do. Thanks ;)
Good review. Really helped a lot. I have subscribed
Hi, I have a Nikon d500 & 85mm f1.8 lens. I am looking to buy a macro lens for my crop sensor. Should I buy 60mm f2.8 or 85mm f3.5? please suggest which one should I buy?
What is the difference (if any) between this lens and the identical version which has a "D" suffix?
This 60mm AF-D is build like a tank. I drop it a couple of times and it stayed with me all this time. The details are extremely sharp. It's one of my work horse lens (24-70mm AF-S being the other). It's goes well with portraiture shoots too! Every Nikonian should own this lens!
The Angry Photographer man , said that anyone that doesn't get this lens is an IDIOT ! Said its the best value Nikon lens you can buy because of all the purposes it serves , It can be had in very good used condition on Amazon for around $250 ! So since im wanting to have a micro lens and I really like the D series lens , I think im gonna get this one !
I just purchased the 60mm f2.8d from eBay based on the many recommendations here on YouTube. Looking forward to it's arrival tomorrow and using it. Everyone says it's a great all-around lens. Other than the 50mm f1.8d, this will be my 2nd prime lens. Next on my list is the Tokina 100mm f2.8. Thanks for the review David. I'll be checking back on your other reviews.
So I purchased one off these in October and didn’t have time to use it. Seller said auto focus didn’t work, cleaned the contacts today set camera and lens to auto and works perfectly, got it really cheap too. That’s the best part.
Great review!
Never forget to set that A/M switch on the lens correctly. If you set the camera to A and forget the lens is in M mode you may burn your camera's AF motor.
This is an awesome lens, its the do it all and ALL, If you need two cameras and one lens, this is the lens.
I like the "D" series lenses myself, dont leave Nikon bro, your shooting the best :)
I have both the 60 and 105 mm 2.8d macro lenses. Really like them, but my live view doesn’t work on my D500 when using them. Anyone else have this problem?
Rest in Peace Matt
I bought the 60mm for photographing the negatives on the negative digitizer kit on my Nikon d850. I always only used it for that, until last weekend I actually took it out to take some pictures of my nieces/nephews and as a general walk around lens around our ranch. I was absolutely BLOWN away at the image quality. Just totally shocked at what it could do for 250 dollars. I'm going to start using this lens way more often now! ps: Use in good light or on a tripod when you can! This lens on the D850 is unforgiving if technique isn't spot on!
This lens severed me very well and still own it the lens worked excellent on my d500
Just to clarify, does this lens have a built in motor for auto focus? Would it be comparable with say the d5300s that doesn’t have an auto focus motor?
Hi brother im a beginner i just bought nikon D5600 and im a numismatic i wanted to ask u Which nikon lense is good for coins photography i want to capture the luster on coins pls reply back Asap it would be helpful thanks
Hi, can I use 60mm macro lens with D3300, d3400 and d3500
It’s good for reproduction.
I watched a video of another YouTube who claims that this lens has radioactive coating. I have this lens and I love it. Do you have any information about that claim? What about the 80-200mm as he said the same about it. I have both of these lenses and love them. Thanks for your great videos.
What a lame as background,, what are you giving the impression you have a fancy house using a greenscreen LOL
Love this lens along with the older Nikon AF 105mm f2.8 micro both of them offer fantastic image quality and imo having used both Newer AFS versions the older ones offer supper image quality excellent review.
Is this lens any different i wonder? Nikon Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8 CRC D AF
I just got one for 40 us dollars plus 200 pesos more here in Tijuana Mexico, the extra 200 pesos where for the guy to get closer to me it is equal to like 10 dollars,so i paid about 50 dollars for mine.
I use this lens with a 2x tele-converter and it's pretty sweet.
this is my fav lens for portraits, unmatched sharpness, close range focus is really great. did I mention how damn sharp it is?
I love this lens, but kinda wish I had a 90 - 100 mm or the Sigma 150 macro:
with the fake background?
OMG I made a video . 60 mm is short for a macro but I think it's great all around as I said.
Thanks, made my day
Tamron 90mm Macro for me too. - Adam
Especially lately, I've been considering the 60mm AF-D to replace my 50mm 1.8 G. My 50 has an issue where it won't open all the way up to f/1.8, and for portraiture, I wouldn't mind that extra reach on my APS-C camera (trusty D7100).
