Hold on to your hats folks: Nikon have just released a VERY interesting new lens at a very nice price point, and lightweight too: the AF-S 20mm f/1.8G ED. 2 aspherical elements, 2 ED elements, nano coat, good price point too. Be interesting to see how that performs! Could potentially be ideal supplement to the 14-24 lens (or even alternative!)
The Rokkinon 24mm f/1.4 has a good reputation. It is especially popular with astrophotographers who,want a lens that keeps point light sharp out to the corners. Apparently this lens performs every bit as well as the Nikon on that front, although other things such as contrast, light fall off, bokeh and flare control are not nearly as good as this Nikon lens.
Do you have an idea about how this lens performs against the Samyang/Rokinon 24mm f/1.4? I am interested only in OPTICAL comparison as for my purposes autofocus and other mechanical feats are not so important. The price delta is huge, and if optically they are comparable, I might go with the cheap version
Is a better choice over 28mm which is prone to lens flare day and night among other inadequacies that are quite bad. This 24mm is the perfect compliment to your 50mm 1.8G (1.4G not great value by image saturation/sharpness comparison) and beautiful 85mm 1.4G primes

UV filter at weddings? Is it that dusty? :-)
Try going to a wedding 4-5 hours making photographs especially in England with the rain and wind and low light situations and then comeback to me. i am not arquing with the quality of the lens but with how practical it is especially at that price point. If I don't need VR I rather buy a Sigma 24mm 1.4 save my self a 1000 smackers and fix what ever issues in post witch by the way you can do it these days. But the best lenses are with VR like Tamron 24-70mm F2.8 which has VR and can be used as well as for pictures as filming. To me no VR= useless in less you do studio work and then you don't need 1.4 since you have plenty of light.

Beautiful 24mm lens indeed. Get rid of the UV filter though. they are less than useless, are potentially a liability to such a sharp lens (especially on a bright day), and get in the way of putting a polariser or ND on (which are much more useful). I never put UV's on any of my quality primes, simply because an extra layer of air and glass between the sensor and subject add an extra layer of flare, aberration, and dust collection.

why do we pay so much more for f/1.4 lens when max sharpness is at f/8? Can't we buy f/4 lens and shoot at f/8?

NIce video. Question - I'm also trying to build my own "trinity" of prime lenses. I picked up the 58. 1.4 today. Was wondering how the 24 1.4 compared to its 1.8 counterpart? I'm also using a D 810 if that helps/matters.
Does the Nikon 24mm 1.4 give a different prospective in close up portraits from the other lenses at 24mm? Does it give a more 3D look to the portrait? Is it possible to download a RAW or JPEG file of the close up portraits you took with the 24mm 1.4 and another lens for comparison? Thank you
Misleading, but still one of the best lens. I have it for few years; it is not the sharpest lens, but colours, 3d rendering, bokeh are in the highest sphere. This lens also need time for mastering.

the 24-70 f2.8 you are using is not sharp, I own it, the 4 corners are blurry, maybe it's due to design problems.
next time, try to shoot objects with tripod, that would be much more stable, no hand shakes, no subject movement, right?
