Massive FF or it's just me?
Hihi I just wanna clarify something. So I can use this 17-55 DX lens on a FX camera but there won't be any vignette?
So here we are in 2019 and still this is a fantastic DX lens. All metal construction, constant f2.8 and great contrast. Some quirks like tight focusing and aperture rings compared to modern lenses. You can hear the glass being moved around when auto focusing - sweet sounding to some but may not to others. Also you can hear the elements moving around when rocking it but doesn't affect the outstanding performance one bit. Probably needs an update compared to the latest but still a stellar performer. A steal under $800 used IMHO and pristine ones are getting rare. These go for $1500 brand new!
Is it worth on d7500?
All my nikon cameras are set to a color i like not the preset color or factory set colors
so boring. uffffff
nikon has the same way with nokia lol, keeping build up for crop for what, fail in miroless crop, high cost for miroless ff with low battery, less quantity of lens, no eyes forcus, no 360 screen, loose in trend of technical, loose in UX, yes many fail, lose customer to A73!
Picture of a building at an angle at 17mm 3.5 WTF. On top of that, reviewing a DX lens on a full frame body Go and learn photography instead of doing shitty reviews.

This is a great lens except for the fact that it is as expensive as a D750.
I just got mine today for $400 in mint condition. With my Nikon D2Xs images are stunning: Very sharp, low distortion and brutally fast AF. I think I'll solder it on the camera. Highly recommended lens.
I really hate when they do review on DX lense and used full frame body. i think 80%+ user buy DX because they own DX body.

Hello mam. According to today's standard should I get this 17-55 f2.8 or 16-80 f2.8 - 4? I am going to use it on my Nikon D7200
there should be more pro spec dx lenses , they make us plenty of bodys but sooo few pro lenses .

I bought this lens yesterday and works soooooooo well on my D7500. I couldn’t believe how much photo changes when you change lens. Unbelievably good
I use a 1980s 55mm 2.8 ais macro lens which so sharp and sturdy. Worth about £120 now. I use it on my old Nikon D300s manual focusing.
She's a bit confused 1) At 2:00 she says the Focusing is done in-camera. 2) "Focusing Ring" complaint at 4:50 is talking about the Zoom Ring, not the Focus Ring. This is still the BEST DX lens today (Dec 2019). It is the equivalent lens for use as the FX 24-70 lens which nobody complains about or questions the relevance of.

I want a travel lens I have nikon d7500 an upgrade after d3300 I wonder if it's worth in 2019 or there is a better solution?

I use this lens on my D7200. It works very well as a goto for travel photos.
Does this Lens perform good an newer cameras like the D7500. I have the oportunity to get a used one for a good price but i am afraid that it cant hold up to the more pixels that cameras now have.
One of the few "Must Own" nikkor DX lenses. I even prefer it to my 24-70 nikkor on my FF nikons.

I very much appreciate Ken's advice, he's spot on on most issues, but on this one I have to disagree. At least my copy of this lens is not good at all. At 55mm lousy even in the center. Maybe it's a bad copy. But never mind, I wanted to give Nikon another shot but I'll stay with my superb and lightweight Fuji lenses. :)

I’ve just purchased a D600 and I’m searching for a variable focal length lens. I’ve been looking at this lens as a possibility. I’m new at this, but I followed most of what you said. However I do not understand what you mean by “crop mode.” Since the D600 has a full sized sensor, should I be looking for a different or better lens instead? May I ask your recommendation?

Some people say Sigma 18-35 F1.8 is better than this lens?They say it's sharper,but i don't think sharpness is everything.
Not a professional photographer just enjoy it as a hobby. I was convinced dropping ~$2500 for a full frame mirrorless camera set up to upgrade from my dx camera. But after watching your objective videos I realised I don't need all that and will keep using the dx camera and ordered one of these lenses used for $509. I know I can get some fantastic shots with it. Thanks!
Impressive lens because of its size, weight and price. It's an old lens that was paired to old Nikon professional bodies like D2x. Too expensive for a DX lens. The Sigma 17-50 f2.8 is affordable, lightweight and razor sharp. I prefer the Sigma.
i just traded in my Nikon D800 for a D500 and bought a used Nikkor 17-55 2.8 from a NY camera store for 800 bucks in Exc+ shape. Can't wait! I have a D850 for my studio work and felt the D800 needed to be upgraded. Love your reviews and your overthetop attitude!
Ken, Is the lens you are mentioning different from the AF-S Nikkor 17-55 F/2.8 G ED DX ?
I need this lens in my life. The 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens just doesn't cut it for me anymore.
16 80mm destroys it on my D500.
I have noticed that some Nikon zoom lenses have the focus ring on the lens mount end of the lens and some have the focus ring on the filter end of the lens. Should I be concerned which end of the lens has the focus ring?
This is the only DX lens I still own for my D7000. Excellent lens. Question for Ken - If I use it on my D850 - in crop mode (I haven't) - wouldn't it still be a 17-55mm rather than something equivalent to 26-82mm? Or am I getting this wrong?
