I love this keyboard. It's the default keyboard provided at MS, where I worked for a while. Otherwise I would never have even tried it. A few months in and I abandoned my mechanical keyboard. Once you get past the initial adjustment, it's the most comfortable keyboard. When I type on a regular keyboard I know what I'm missing. I'd recommend it! I want to mod one into a mechanical keyboard, which would then be perfection, lol.
I've used it for two and a half year now. The keyboard is still in pretty good shape. I just changed the keyboard and numpad battery last week! The keyboard battery is very long life. Though I changed the battery for mouse for two or three times now. I rarely switch off the mouse and I drop it (accidentally) quite often. The mouse is starting to wear off now as its buttons are harder to click, needed to press twice. But in overall I love MS Sculpt Ergo keyboard. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new set if it is broken.
Thank you for your review, it helps when we can't try it on shop. I just have doubts about "Home" and "End" button for programming, are they not too far on the right ?
Worst keyboard ever
Hey, thanks for the video. How long did it take you to get used to typing fast on it when switching from a regular one?
your camera can't stay focused
Excellent 🤍🤍🤍microsoft keyboard nice 🖤🖤🖤https://youtu.be/7CXiC1PzktA
So MS *CAN* make key caps that don't wear off after a couple months.
Great review on the keyboard, FYI your hands have to be at a 90 degree angle so you don't end up suffering from elbow pain in the future.
Num Pad battery died just after 5 months of non-use : (
Thank you for the video... I'm in the market for a new Microsoft keyboard.
I have bouth this keyboard :o) today. It's amazing.
Hairy arms boi
It sounds like a good idea apart from the padding, which is an obvious weak spot. I have had the old ComfortCurve for years and only now are the characters beginning to wear off.
I have the same keyboard. the dongle is not working anymore. what is the solution for that problem?
This is a bizarre review, it almost seems to only talk about lots of trivial things. I have this keyboard, it is lovely to type with, both the touch buttons and the shape. The wireless connection can be iffy sometimes with the numeric keypad. But the one infuriating thing is the F keys which are tiny little things at the top. I'm a cgi artist and use F keys all the time. Why on earth they didn't just do them the same as the rest of the keyboard buttons is beyond me, they're constantly fiddly to press. If they could update the keyboard with those this keyboard would be fantastic.
I don't bang my keyboard. I shake it. Why would you bang it?
cheap consumer plastic
i wonder is an armtray where you put your keyboard is something really usefull. would think not as often buggy in desks. also can be weird guess to have something on top of your hand/arms (especially playing games, even if not mean for gaming, i have articulation problems..).
plan to make a fully ergonomic setup, cause my articulations are shit.
after a year and a half, some of the keys stopped working. don't know how to fix it. so annoying that I have to go back to an old keyboard until I can buy another sculpt. I would suggest to get extended warranty lol. I know I will
I want an updated ergonomic keyboard, still got the OG ergonomic keyboard from Microsoft.
I absolutely hate the Microsoft Sculpt, from the high gloss to to the fake leather to the separate numberpad. Too bad the Logi 860 Ergo is not being released in The Netherlands. Has anyone got any better idea's?
is it chargeable?
Even Microsoft's own marketing material doesn't explain it as technically well as this video, especially the reverse tilt. Now I just gotta make up my mind between this or the ZSA Moonlander 🤔
what is the difference between this one and the suface one?
I watched a lot of reviews on this product and ended up going with your affiliate link to make the purchase. Your focus on the negative tilt aspect really sold me on it.. well done!
quite flexible and bouncy sculpture....
ergonomics is a fantasy. you can place your hands and fingers in an ergonomic position in any keyboard or mouse, with wrist supports or not. the most ergonomic thing you can actually do is change your hand and body posture every so often, which is more difficult in ergo products. simpler designs, are easier to adapt and experiment on. traditional blind typing posture is a wrist and finger killer, for example.
Ooops... You just lost your dongle! What do you do? OH YEAH! You throw the keyboard in the garbage because Microsoft doesn't allow you to pair the keyboard with another wireless dongle. They also won't do it for you. DO NOT BUY THIS GARBAGE!!! Logitech has their unifying products which work awesome. Stick with that as a real solution and option. This keyboard feels great, but was designed by 3 year old children. Don't give them ice cream money. STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!!!
Still getting used to, but the keypad and mouse are constantly getting in a way of each other.
does it work with mac ?
I've been using this keyboard for around 3 years and love it. As someone else mentioned there is a problem with the function keys being wedged to one side sometimes after you clean it and they're so streamlined that it's hard to tell why your keyboard is misbehaving, this isn't such a big deal once you know where the problem lies. Another problem I faced is that the back arrow key eventually conked off. I don't consider myself a rough user, it was just that this key got a lot of use over time. I used an app to remap the right ctrl key as the back arrow. This keyboard works on my mac. The batteries literally seem to last *forever*, I can't even remember when I changed my numpad battery last. Incredible engineering other than the two issues I mentioned. I'd definitely buy it again.
Staggered rows? QWERTY? No, it is not ergonomic
Great review. I just wish there was a cabled option for people who want to keep any wireless technology at a minimum.
It is a great keyboard but I don't know why mine died, I changed the battery
My keyboard, 2 times into the water due to the air conditioner leaking, 1 time spilled coffee, but so far has not broken. I have been using it for 3 years;)
For writing many hours u recommend?
Diagnosed with r s I injury in fingers and hands.
The tilt is really not high enough. This is NOT ergonomic keyboard. Fail. Look elsewhere. Freestyle pro or edge (with the tilt kit) seem to be the best.
I am currently considering buying it, this is a very pertinent review.
The functions keys can get stuck because of the curve body, anything else is excellent. I used one of it three year ago.
Great review, thanks!
Just bought this set at Best Buy for work. Really excited to try it out!
80?
Nice video
Yeah... in 2021, AAs & AAAs are actually a plus over rechargeable, not a downside...
Very poor product. After a few months only, I broke the USB connector, and Microsoft will not sell the connector. Your nice brandnew keyboard, mouse and numeric pad are good for the bin. This is what you call sustainable. After contacting Microsoft, they told me they would not sell me a connector separately... Never buying hardware from Microsoft again with such lousy products.
This thing is 7 years old and still costs more than 100 euro. For christ's sake
wish they would come with silent mouse option with this shape
I love this keyboard, what i would like to know as i have ripped off many keys off keyboards and when i replaced them the key function has never been good, so i was wondering with this key board if it is ok to take off the keys to give it a good clean??
Where is the @ button,pls
Been using this set for about a year now. Yes, *difficult to keep clean.*
*Unsatisfying key presses*, hard to know how much pressure activates the key. My typing errors have skyrocketed with this keyboard!
*mouse clicks are too sensitive,* I cannot rest my fingers on the buttons or I will activate the buttons. My click and drags have been ruined about 10% of the time by accidental right-clicks.
Mouse too small. I am a European man but my hands are smaller than average: I get horrible wrist pain trying to grip this mouse - how ironic!
This set is style over substance, fancy looking, annoying to use. I severely regret my purchase. I was mistaken to think the price was an indication of quality.
Six years later, that keyboard still doesn't have back-light nor rechargeable batteries...
if they add rgb they would buy it more
Someone, pls, just do the f***** 4000 with touchpad. PLEASE!
if you've got big hands then the rest on the keyboard is in the wrong place. would have been good to have a slide out adjustment rather than assume we are all created equal, particularly on an ergonomic product
what are those.
This looks really ugly, it doesn't even use mechanical switches and is STILL using the QWERTY keyboard layout, which is one of the major contributors to RSI. One of the best things those suffering from RSI can do is switch keyboard layouts to something like DVORAK that is designed for modern keyboards. It takes a while to learn a new layout, but it is absolutely worth it.
The QWERTY layout was deliberately designed in the 1780s to slow typists down and make typing as difficult as possible. They had to do this because early typewriters would jam at the speeds the typists were capable of. It's a horrible keyboard and probably the most antiquated piece of tech still in regular use.
This would have been perfect if it featured an LED backlight and dedicated media controls!
I bought this keyboard and mouse and had it for 4 days before returning it. It is not compatible with Windows 7. As far as it's ergonomics it didn't cut it for me either. I much preferred the Microsoft 4000 wireless when they made it; now it's only available corded. This keyboard is just one more way that Microsoft is trying to get users to go to Windows 10.
where is Kumar
Rechargeable batteries: Just get a set of NiMH batteries and a charger at any electronics store.
If the product can fit them, they are the best. You can have a charged set ready for when the ones you use are depleted. Compare that to non-replaceable Lithium-batteries that have a limited lifetime _even_ if you don't use them, where you might have to toss the entire device when the battery dies.
Backlighting: If you type well enough that ergonomics matter then you don't even need printing on the keys - it will all be in muscle memory.
I find Sculpt Keyboard pretty nice considering ergonomics. But this Sculpt ergonomics mouse is actually mockery of ergonomics!
If egg shape is ergonomic than this mouse is ergonomic. Since ergonomy
is not purpose of egg shape (but optimum solidity) , this mouse is just
another designer's fancy figment. If you are lucky it will fit your hand
somehow, if not, well - wish you more luck another time.
It is presumably ergonomic because it renders your right palm to be more
right inclined which is more natural. But because both main buttons
"logically" follow "good looking egg shape" left part of left button
surface leans far to much steep down to the left side forcing you -
because your palm is, or should be, right inclined - to press with
forefinger to its smooth (in fact slippery) surface not from above but
from right inclined angle, pretty far from optimal angle. I actually
glued a small triagle-shaped piece of rubber on left side of left button
as finger holder to make this device at least usable for me.
Those two additional buttons on the left are nothing but bad yoke
considering ergonomics, and the same holds for whole that concave part
on the left side (thumb holder), too.
This mouse is just another designer's figment, and let it be - but to
call this egg-like thing ERGONOMIC mouse... this comes on very age of
cynical fraud.
I have two combos, I've detected one flaw in the mouse after 1 year of use.... the left click fail some times, not sure but it happens with the second combo after 12-18 months of use. Another thing that I don't like it is the degradation of the mouse rubber and the keyboard pillow fabric... no matter what you do, in regards the ergonomics I think this product is the best on the market. Hope that Microsoft improve the materials used.
Im suffering from wrist pain as im spending like 12 hours a day with a mouse in my hand, i tried tons of different mice, the microsoft sculpt was the only one that actually relieved some of the pain.
But it sure does take a while to get used to it, i got large hands so i can hold the mouse perfectly, but some people with small hands may find the size of the mouse a bit overwhelming.
