It' s actually much cheaper than gasoline (even less than 1 $ per gallon), but the point it' s that today methanol is mainly produced by natural gas and even coal in China, the challenge in the future will be to produce it very sustainably from "waste" biomass. It's a much smarter approach than today high intensive and not sustainable biofuels from food plants, like ethanol from corn or sugarcane (even from the point of actual CO2 emissions

Green methanol has potantial for marine application. Gas turbine, steam turbine, dmfc coud be a good power unit which used methanol as a fuel. Steam turbine is more possible. Methanol can burned at external compustion chamber easily for producing steam. Steam which is produced at external combustion chamber drives steam turbine.
