As usual Barry - an informative review of a high quality snare drum. I buy 13" snares and then sell them because they're never my 'go to' snare. That one inch makes enough of a difference to me. It's like the old hockey rink that's smaller than the standard size. I own a Mapex Blaster kit, 2 up, 2 down. It's a favorite of mine. Best tone. Focused sound. Very handsome drums.
Excellent snare overall. I have one. I give it a 4 of 5... I'd love to give it a 5, but it's not perfect... #1: no matter what I do with tuning and head choice, I can't get it to have as much body and volume as my 14x6" maple snare ( I know it's only a 13 vs a 14, but it's also an inch deeper. I figured the pitch would be higher but the the extra inch of depth might make up for the loss of an inch in diameter... It doesn't). #2: The finish on the batter-side rim will wear off from rim shots, looking slightly worn. #3: The lugs are a bit shallow, making the tuning rod's bottom out on tight tunings.

Great snare, love it! Got one for like 3 years now. Can be very loud and have nice full body sound. Using it with 2ply or 1ply thick head (2ply head have more aggressive sound).

I’ve got to say that the Cyrus steel is extraordinarily good, the sound you’d expect from a very high end snare drum, but there again are BO snare drums themselves very high end but not perceived as such because of the extreme value they give?

Just got the persuader. Haven’t had it more than a few hours. But it slams.
I would have liked to have at least one 8 lug drum in a 14", wood or metal, to look at.

I wish they would have used a non-muffled head for the comparison. I understand that these drums come with these heads, but a more open sound would give a better representation of the true sound of the shell. IMO.
Mapex are on fire right now. Severely underrated drums.

Awesome selection from mapex! Definitely an old familiar sound with the brass drums but I think the copper snare with a high tuning sounded the sweetest to my ears.

They all sounded great in my opinion! I have a Mapex Chromium snare that I don’t know much about, but I love it as well. However I would like to get some of those Super Saver hoops!

Idk if it was Nolly who tuned those snares but I gotta say at the intro they were all fine tuned accurately to the same note/hertz giving a true test of the different materials/depth the snares have. Great job!
