May I ask why this particular one but not Manfrotto Befree? Apart from the price of course? I have this dilemma because I have heard Befree is more versatile, and has a fluid video head. But I have also read that fluid head is not so fluid after all, it can be stiffy and kind of stucks while panning. Though, that was only some of the reviews, some people were absolutely happy with it.
Can the head be removed? I would like this head on my monopod - thanks!

THANK you for the look at the Manfrotto COMPACT ADVANCED BLACK. And at yourself. That key shot on the YouTube page is so good. You present very well, with the eye-light and the depth shot. I bought at Digital Camera Warehouse in Canterbury NSW. I may have wound up with the ADV-WH. The one you show is quite a lot better. I was antiquarian about the Quick Release fitting. I have used the one that fitted my Velbon and Harman as a permanent fixture on my Olympus. The "shoe" part is definitely arranged in the wrong direction for me. I do not like covering the battery cover. But ok, the at can be I am strongly interested in videography, so I did not understand one thing with the ADV-WH (which I thi-nk I got!): the 2 handles were locked together. The second handle does Portrait. It took me a while to "get" how to move the second pan handle. Since the Harman carbonite is far too light, I may keep the ADV-WH. In the near future, I would like to invest in the best Manfrotto inside $400. You clarified things that mean I won't need to chuck it back.
Regarding the knob, so it doesn’t get lost, I put mine in a ziplock bag with the instructions that came with the tripod, and keep it in the carry bag.

Also good to know what lowest price these tripods can go down to, was considering getting one during this year's Black Friday sales but maybe I can afford to wait a little more to get my first tripod... great review, that reversal of the centre bar sounds like a cool feature! Dumb question, I own a micro 3/4 mirrorless and wanted to know if the screen in quick release screw is universal?

A great no-nonsense review. She literally and physically broke it all down. That make shift ball-head that moves  around and the fact that you can reverse the middle column to get low shots sold me!

I do video but also do photography and I feel like this isn't smooth enough to use for pan/tilt etc in video, and not strong enough to hold up my big telephoto wildlife lenses. I want an e-image GH06 fluid head, but also feel like I should be able to get a good camera for photography that just needs to be sturdy without smooth movement for much cheaper... still looking for a good cheap photography head!

Why can't you do pans and turns as smooth with the Manfrotto Compact Advanced (with 2 handles)? I stand between buying the Action or Advanced, for my DSLR, mainly filming, sometimes photos. I only fear the Action 1,5kg limit is a bit low, if you have a heavier lense and general stability, as the Advanced is made for 3 kg, and the action only for 1,5kg.

I'm looking for a small travel tripod (only for photos) and this one's on my shortlist. So thanks for your review, very helpful! It seems that the head design is very nice if you want to take photos. For video (panning) it doesn't look good to me in your review.

I would caution against buying this product. If you lose the quick-release plate/screw (which I did) it costs $17 for a replacement of the screw which likely cost $1-$2 to produce. Paying $17 for the replacement seems like an exorbitant price for a simple screw.

The horizontal and vertical panning footage 14:53 was really useful. It showed NOT to expect smooth pans from this tripod. BTW, if you ever want to replace your lame-as-Hell music, I can record the raccoons and cats that have sex under my window every time I need to good night's sleep. :)

You helped me NOT AT ALL! That was NOT a review! It was a video of someone playing around with a tripod and a camera. For all I could tell, it could have been a kid playing with the equipment. There was no voice-over explaining what the person was doing, and absolutely nothing to let your audience know what you thought of the tripod and/or camera; good, bad, or indifferent. Were you "reviewing" the tripod or the camera? Or both? Furthermore the music was annoying, constantly repetitive, and of no help at all. Sorry to be so negative, but when I am looking for information on a product, simple moving pictures do not help in the least!

I love mine but i cant seem to get the area where the handle is to stop spinning. Even adjusting the wheel on the grip. Any advice?
