I like the fact you can take the top off and use it as a candle
im gonna put a litt industries led in my 6 cell and keep the bulb in the tail cap in case the led fails
I got a red 90s 3D maglite for $1.50 at a thrift store. Score!
I didn't know mag lights were still made
Go for an olight
Another thing MAGLITEs are good for is spotting animals. Say if you are out in the woods or Zoo at night to see animals such as Possums, Owls etc. The Incandescent isn't overly bright so you don't annoy and blind the animals. Also, since it has that black spot on Flood, it's even dimmer. Of course there are LEDs that have low Eco modes but they are probably more expensive.
I still think you and I kinda got ripped off with our 3 Cell MAGLITEs. Mine cost $70 AUD plus $10 shipping. Also, I'm having more trouble catching the threads when screwing the tail cap on and yes I've lubed up every part with Vaseline. But I still love my MAGLITE, I will be doing light mods for the time being. I may start collecting more Flashlights too.
I'd also advise not to use Alkaline batteries as they can leak. You can prevent this by removing them when not in use. But better off getting NiMH Rechargeables. Expensive up front but cheaper in the long run
In all honesty I used to work with these in the airforce. They broke all the time, mag lites are awful for aircraft maintenance. Having it in an engine bay, you shift around a lot. And those mag lites will crack you on the head when they fall out of placement. They can take a beating but damn, the bulb would pop out, the glass would shatter, your head would be split in two. Sometimes the seal in the bulb side would just be plain missing. Well it's good enough for government work 🤣
Can someone please help me understand how Maglite LED flashlights with 3 cell have runtime of almost 3x longer than 2 cell of same models?
Regardless which series of light it is... that seems to be the case.
How? Someone need to explain to me in technical way.
To tip, You can get lights with led colour temperatures of 'Neutral white'.
Best of both worlds.
I really wanted one, but after seeing this review, I'm having second thoughts. I'm only gonna use it when walking at night, in my room etc. But the LED ones are more expensive and I still don't really trust the reliability of LEDs as the circuits can fail. The LED itself however is fairly durable. Hmmm, I think I will still buy a 3 Cell anyway because you can buy these modules that allow you to upgrade to LED.
Sorry about the long comment, cheers for the video mate.
I like the ML300L better. Cause it's got different modes like standard, camping, law enforcement, and military/ tactical. And it doesn't have that black dot in the middle. Just saying.
Compare one of these with a LED Lenser pocket size MT6 torch thsg is 600 lunens, it will leave the Maglite for dead.
I just bought one secondhand for €2 .Cleaned it up and good to go .Is it worth 31 pound here in holland they cost €50 .The answer is no.I just bought mine cause it was cheap .But i will sell it .They were good in the 80s and 90s but they are outdated now.
Nice review. Looking forward to the upgrade.
For not much more money you could have bought the 3D cell 3rd generation led maglite which is far superior. It is far brighter at 625 lumens but also has different settings so you can have it on full which lasts 16 hours. Low which lasts 77 hours and Eco which lasts 117 hours. You can also set it to strobe mode
Incandescent series is an " old school " and many people worldwide like "warm" light and buy classic maglite..... But maglite produces many led flashlight .. For edc is perfect AA minimaglite - basic led version has approx 100 lumens and intensity 5500cd and approx. 8 hours runtime at the high mode... If we compare with fenix ld22 it has 300 lumens and 3500 cd intensity and 2 hours runtime... But fenix has not focus, and very bright led consume battery too fast, and beam distance is lower than maglite... Fenix, and other manufactures of flashlights nowadays sell only " lumens" forgetting about beam distance and runtime ))
the worst thing about buying a new torch is waiting for it to get dark !!!!
I like the incandescent maglites the best i can upgrade to a led if i need to i prefer the warm lite incandescent gives.I have 4 led maglites with burned out leds that i cannot get,i dont have that problem with the incandescent.
I just purchased one for a unarmed security position I am currently working in which we are not allowed to carry anything for self defense so I purchased this flashlight/baton and still be in compliance with policy.
I just ordered it. Can't wait to use this baby!
You should have pointed at a much farther target to show us the difference between flood and spot. Otherwise, this was a very useful video. Thanks!
Anyone use AAA in a cady for this ??
Does it come with a spare LED? LEDs can fail prematurely though usually it's the circuit that fails due to overheating.
what is the led used in it?
Is perfec super good
Can you remove the head on the 3rd generation maglites like you could on the older models?
So far do you enjoy this flaslight?
only thing what i like about maglite is there body has that smooth feel, it feel realy god in the hand. The other thing is the button is in the side which is better then turning its head.
but im not a fan of maglite lol :)
Love my red model...it really shines bright and is a great "attitude correction device"! Great review. Ty.
India Mumbai where from buy this torch send me address
Hello sir, I have a problem . Led is not working, plz send me a short video how to change / replace led on 9967088747. I am from India. Did not find any video on YouTube. plz try to send as early as possible. Thank you.
Can the ML300L use extension kits to turn it into a 4D or 5D?
Momentary does not allow you to flash Morse Code, the old generation switch does signaling the best. Also It has no memory, as in full power will be with the first button press even if another selection was used last.
Why do people use automatic exposure on cameras when doing reviews like this? High, Low and Eco all look the same, obviously because the camera is adjusting exposure to suit available light. Setting camera exposure manually to give good exposure for High, then locking it off, and then showing the other modes woudl give viewers a true idea of difference between the modes.
Get to the point. Stop introducing the product and babbling about it. Review it and show how it works already. I even had to speed up the video to 1.25 because you’re talking like a turtle. No offense, just saying. You drag the video for 8 minutes
It's eco, not echo. No offense. Cheers.
How do you set it for strobe
So this takes D batteries??? No one really uses those anymore. It's be nice if they made a version that used new LI batteries.
I just got a ml300l 3D 3rd Gen and was just wondering how it will act when the batterys get low will it just keep getting dimmer or will it just go out suddenly? Thanks
There's now a awesome 6 D cell maglite ML300L. Awesome stuff.
great vid happy i bought the 3d cell
that's a bright light
Bout 6 min
My ultrafire 502b puts out about the same as my 3 d cell Cree mag light.
Smaller flashlights won't bash in a burglar's skull… Just saying I know a lot of cops use 3 D Maglite for the combination Light/Weapon!
I have many D cell Maglites including this one. The second gen is much
more heavy duty than this new model. I like the modes and the better
beam pattern of this new version but this new model has plastic gears and thinner parts which are not what a Maglite should have. There isn't even any cheap aluminum flashlights I know of with plastic and gears. All manufacturers with adjustable spot-flood have aluminum threads and no gears for beam adjustments. Adding plastic parts that are not even needed is a step backwards in build quality. Still its a nice light, I just wont consider it heavy duty and 100% reliable like the second generation 2d and 3d. Got to love the run time on the 3d though! Amazing that just 1 more d cell than the 2d model can triple the run time in low mode! Same is true for the 2nd generation. 3D is a great power outage flashlight which you can flood a white ceiling and get decide room lighting.
I have an old school 6 d cell non led mag lite
Love it, the people whining are pretentious little kids with no actual light or intelligence trying to be smart. No reason I can't keep a mag in with my fenix and surefire lights
Thanks for the great review. I love my Maglite flashlights and I can see I will be buying one of these new lights in the near future.
Throw distance is impressive and it takes regular batteries you can find anywhere.
Smaller lights don't have 16 hours of battery life on high
Are there upgrades for all the old Maglights we have laying around?Old Maglights do not compare to the Fenix I bought a short time back, and it fits in your front pocket. We paid dearly for the old mags back in the time and was not happy with performance even at that time.
Or...you could buy a flashlight with twice the power, for half the price, that fits in your pocket from Thrunite, Fenix, Nitecore etc. But hey, they are made in the USA!
It's nice that they stayed true to their big body original design. You can still go from a tight beam to a room filling beam but now with a LOT more light. You can also clobber the hell out of someone with two or three D cells in the light lol
Wow! Maglite finally realized they don't have to be 10 years behind in tech anymore!
(joking... but only a little) ;)
I like the ML300 better. Cause it's got different modes like standard, camping, law enforcement, and military/tactical. And the It dosent have that black dot in the middle. Just saying.
He does a review on a production and says “ if your interested in that you can look it up “.
never had my 2d maglite button remove since so long.... 2 years..
it all depend on the person handle
Call for Order in Bangladesh.
Is it water proof
Had mine for God knows how long, and it just plain bloody works. If you've got one with the incandescent bulbs, do replace it with one of the LED replacements, because they're well worth it. Mag-Lites may not be the sexiest or the brightest of torches, but they're not toys - they're tools. They're designed to do a job, and do it well.
It's been six years and even the packaging had changed. The newer generation Maglites are a lot different from the ones in this video, like the whole flashlight was reinvented.
i have one 7years now and it use to be use every night for the last 5years and it just wouldnt light anymore
so... does the LED bulb remove from the new maglite led models? I have one and the damn thing doesn't unscrew
You mentioned in the video that the flashlight is big and long enough to be a weapon well, Outlaw MCs use those flashlights as weapons.
This 3D LED Maglite is the best one. This particular model gives 79 hours of bright light and beyond as the batteries start to die. I did a run down test with alkalines once and got about 130 hours of usable light. So much more effiecient than the 2D LED model. The 3D is the ultimate power outage (it can tail stand for ceiling gain) and camping weekend light. Great utility light also. I own 2 of these and love them! I also have a few expensive great lights that I love to use like the Fenix TK70 which is awesome to throw a wall of light hundreds of yards but still the Maglite 3D LED is one I grab all the time. They are so reliable. I got the AA mini mag in my car with the Nite Ize 65lumen IQ switch combo. It's a great upgrade for the AA mini mag. Good even beam with less of a hot spot but still throws well for a small light. Its also got a auto shut off after 15 minutes and a red LED that blinks in the tail switch for 15 minutes after the light is turned off in case you need to find in the dark. There are a few versions including a lesser 55 lumen version. But this is the one I got:
.we can say we own 3 mag since 1990 all red finish.never mix or lost it we toasted the button cover on each one. we carry Traffic & Safety Wand as to new we see them at chains store (79hrs) with LEDs vs light bulb 90min or till burnout.
I have the 2d cell and its a grate torch. I use it in my Land Rover for when I'm working on the farm and I allays have it with me in the truck as I work nights driving lorry's. I have upgraded the bulb to led and that made a huge difference and I also have the holder that clips to your belt. Love it.
Still the best torches i have come across. I know a lot of people are turning to Lenser, but in my experience Maglites survive being dropped and exposure to rain a lot better
Just bought the Mini and D's Cell LED bundle together for $29.99
Why is Seth Rogen doing flash light reviews?? :)
it will still work, iv put mine 3feet underwater and still turned on underwater and still working
What happen if the torch falls in the water still work?
ive got one the same maglite 3D love it
this flashlight is awesome. i bought it at the home depot yesterday. it's damn near indestructible and it GREAT to use as a melee weapon. this light came in handy when i needed to wack someone earlier today ^_^ MAGLITE FOR THE WIN!!! YOU ROCK!
