Sorry, but it has backlight as on spacebar there is a symbol of lenovo backlight. I also don't know properly but this is as per my knowledge. You can use fn+space to turn backlight

8-12 minutes average boot time is due to lack of SSD drive. It has the original 1TB drive. Try Samsung EVO 860 SSD drive. The monitor can be fixed simply swapping the LCD. In a third world country this model, Lenovo E460, is well appreciated in reputable companies. I wish you could do more homework before any of this non-sense anger projection.

Lol. I work in I.T and all our equipment are lenovo laptops or the miix tablets, I've got a stack of these like yours ready to be scrapped, I'm currently sending out the e580 and a few x1 carbons.
It's a great little laptop. I' recommend upgrading the ram to 16 gigs and bumping up the video memory in the bios to 512mb for better gaming results. Although I wouldn't recommend gaming on this laptop it would certainly be able to run older titles or indie games.
HD version (1366x768) is a NIGHTMARE! Cannot work more than 1h without my eyes start hurting. Worst screen I ever had. Cannot tell if the FHD would be any better

I had the laptop for just over two months now and I must say that I'm very happy with it. The sRGB range is kinda bad though, but I can live with that when the computer otherwise is very solid quality :)
Touchpad on this ThinkPad is an absolute nightmare. It's coarse and your finger jumps when dragging across it like your finger is on plasticwrap or glass. Incredible hard to tap-click. Smooth-scrolling is hardcoded INTO the ultranav drivers and frustrating to use when reading off the web! Seems like they know about these issues too but choose to stay silent: I returned this after talking to Lenovo which only said you can buy a more expensive lenovo like X1 that touchpad surface is smooth. Comon thats not adressing any issue. The issue is your half-baked drivers and the new touchpad which is frustrating and tiresome to use. Never have I had a cheap nor expensive laptop no matter which brand I never experienced a touchpad so irritating. Settings doesn't help it's either too sensitive to tap without moving the cursor or too insensitive to casually tap without applying extra force. Jeez Lenovo has to get a grip now and continue the legacy of Thinkpads in proper manner.
Great review, thank's a lot. This really sealed it for me and I'm going to get the laptop this week. I was trying to get a budget laptop at around 500 euros, but then I saw this and it's really the best thing for the money in this range. It can even play some games, which is nice.

7:43 "built-in battery" so I can essentially throw this laptop away, once the battery is dead (reached it's maximum of loading cycles)?

i can not quiet figure out why they would opt for a build-in battery over the so easy standard thinkpad-batteries - it's a real shame. nevertheless i guess this will be the notebook i'll type my masters/doctoral thesis on :)
