I heard that these can be tuned. How do you tune them, do you need a wrench or something?

They are very difficult to tune. You have to do many micro adjustments and be much more accurate in making the tension even across the nine (9!) bolts than with a typical conga and if you don't get it just right it rings like a bell. Tuned properly it has very good sound, and the Pearl doesn't sound nearly as good, whoever posted that must work for the company.

I played those and the pearls sound much better. The lp sound too tinny, The pearls have a wooden fibre and made to sound much better. ez

Are these really compact? By that I mean do they save space? Regular bongos can be placed between legs while seated. These require carrying around a stand. For people who mount regular bongos on stands they do save space. For people who don't these don't seem to have a benefit. They do have a great sound. Something like these to replace regular congas would be a real benefit.

5:37 and 5:41 You almost lost your congas. I don't notice any real differences, other than the pitch. Also, you answered another question I had about if it needed to be on a stand. You said you could just have it on your lap.

Mic it really close and the proximity effect could compensate for the lack of bass frecuencies.
Perfect video! Thanks for the direct comparison, just the video I was wanting. You can really hear the lack of depth that the compact conga has on the deeper tones/strokes... but it's only really noticeable when you have a real conga next to it. Do you find that the compacts' sounds get closer to real ones when they are mic'd up?
