I've got the "diffuser reflector" thing that fits onto the camera lens. I use it for macro photography, and I find it gives a nice diffused light right next to the end of the lens, which is great for photographing small subjects. You're right, though: the hole is not big enough for my (Tamron 90mm macro) lens, a major design fail! I´ll need to find a way to make the hole a bit bigger without completely wrecking the thing. By the way, if you can manage to fold this thing back into its original bag, you're a better man than me. Also, I don't at all care about looking like a numpty when using it, but that's just me.

A very nice video. Gives a very good overview of diffuser. I have got the diffuser (White & Silver) which you prefer to keep in your bag. However, I haven't used it much. After watching this video I will seriously try it. I have also the one which you tested first & rated 7/10. Again didn't use it much. I will try that as well. Thanks a lot for the nice Video !

I'm sorry but you got everything mess up. What is important is the size of the light source, on your first test you compare a small diffuser that is pointed to the ceiling against a cobra flash pointed directly to the subject, so of course your diffuser + ceiling will give you a much softer light ! Here is a little tip, at you home paint the ceilings with flat pure white paint. Then, paint all the walls with a neutral grey paint, now you have a huge photographic studio for free ! It is a mandatory to use a neutral grey paint on the walls to avoid any color reflections. Now just bounce your SB-900 flashes (excellent flashes by the way) on the ceiling and you get a high quality light that will make your photos look like you did not use any flash at all ! Enjoy ! :o)

9:26 don’t those types of diffusers waste a lot of light because of how much goes out to the sides and the rear. Your favorite one has been in my event bag for over 2 years now and I have a few of the ones that you showed here. Great video.
Really enjoyed watching this video but I think all of your shots with the flash in vertical position were better because of the ceiling bounce. Maybe an outdoor test would give other results?

Hi men I got this trigrip difflector size 48 ( biggest ) and I founded that the hand grip is made from plastic. After few min playing with this the hand grip just broke in half ! and I only got it today ;(
You should get a bracket for your reflector and stand. If you work on your own I recommend to get also the stand and the bracket for your difflector

Who    wants to travel around with all that stuff?  The wind may knock down your speedlight   Thee must be a better way Like going out on a day with mixed clouds and using the sun through the clouds .  Such a stress to bring all the gear
You can avoid using flash completely, just use another reflector to direct additional sunlight into diffuser :)

Definitely not one of Joe's best videos. Photos are very uninspiring and the choice of such a large aperture was not very well thought out.
I cant' carry all those things around without an assistant. For me, I just get the basic exposure, then easily darken the background around the subject when I'm home using Lightroom, photoshop. So much less of a hassle. But if you can carry those things, that's great.

Joe, i know this is an old video, but do you use light meter? Notice you were using Aperture priority to determent what the settings should be in manual mode, or do you work most a Aperture priority?
You talked up how much you would pay for a beautiful texture like that, then you throw it completely out of focus.
