The directions clearly state if the drive is in use there is no drop rating. All platter drives are like this it is HDD 101
you can opt for an ssd for editing and hdd for saving. eventually, 2 hhdd for backups. and take a look at backblaze service. but being on the road so much it might not work that well for you guys. happy travels.
These drives (any drives really) are advertise to withstand non-operating shock. Most drives (disk drives) that are operating (no matter how rugged) will likely cause damage if they fall. This is why you want to get an SSD for primary work, and an external SSD and/or HDD for backup.
My rugged lacie hard drive is 1 week old and all of the sudden it started beeping. fvcking bvllshit
All external HD will eventually fail. The lowest failure rate HD are that have been test for years are Toshiba, HGST and Samsung. Seagate has the highest failure rate and Western digital is very bad. I had a WD fail in 3 months. LaCie is great and Toshiba even better. LaCie is good for travel.
Great video, I just got mine The LED lights are bugging me out. Like, what are the rules of leaving this thing in my mac? What if its writing and I have to go somewhere? Can the Mac sleep or be closed with the LaCie connected as long as it's connected to power? Will the drive continue to do its thing? Also, my LED light is doing a bunch of different things? Could it be because its currently transferring my entire photos app library to the cloud? It's going from like on to blinking fast at some points and I know LaCie said fast blinking. can mean it failed or something? Also, make me a little nervous to take folders and things from my mac's main system library and putting it on the drive. But I have to because the 2019 mac had like no storage, it's terrible in terms of that. So yeah, I'm a complete newb but
Hi, recently my Lacie Rugged USb-c also stopped working for some random reason and i tried contacting LaCie to get it replaced but i have not gotten any answer by them. Also their phone number doesn'rt even work.
curious, did they recover it? same thing just happened to me, except it failed all of a sudden without getting knocked off or anything

So sad to hear this happened guys. hopefully the data will be intact when the new drive comes back! Those hard drives are amazing, I have maybe 10 of them and never ad any problems and the company seems to be giving you good service too!

Hi Robert. Thanks for the very informative review. This drive might be perfect for me. I just have one question I was wondering if you wouldn't mind answering for me? I plan on hooking this drive up to my mac with the thunderbolt 2 cable and installing OSX on it to achieve faster speeds than my internal hard drive. My question is, when I do this, could I utilize the USB 3.0 port on the Lacie device to connect an extra 2TB hard drive? I can't see why this wouldn't work but just thought I'd ask you for your opinion to make sure?

still relevant in 2020! I have a Mac Book Pro from late 2011 (but with a brand new SSD etc) and I want an external drive. The MBP has thunderbolt 1, Firewire 800! and USB 2.0- no USB 3.0! but the laptop is good enough for editing 1080p with FCP X so I want to continue to use when doing short edits on location (a Same day edit at a wedding etc)- so previously I had a Lacie rugged with dual firewire 800 connections and USB 3 but since I don't have USB 3 on the mac I used the firewire and it worked fine.I know the internal drive was Lacie Rugged Thunderbolt (2) with USB 3 may be what I need-Can the drive power up from the thunderbolt connection? is the internal drive spinning at 5400RPM or 7200RPM? does it matter for video editing on the go? I can't use any SSD drives as I don't have USB 3 or USB-C.maybe in the future-my main editing computer is an Imac late 2013. I want to get the 2TB versionthanks

Hi great video! Ich habe auch ein iPad Pro (und auch das Logitech slim folio pro :D). Ich habe ca. 30.000 Bilder auf meinem Handy (welche sich auch auf mein IPad synchronisiert haben) und ich will sie endlich auf eine gute Festplatte packen und alle bilder auf meinem iPad löschen. Kannst du mir das LaCie dafür empfehlen? Und reichen 2 tB? Kann ich mir die bilder von der LaCie Festplatte dann nur auf meinem iPad angucken oder auch auf anderen laptops? Ich hab leider wenig Ahnung von Technik und hoffe du kannst mir helfen (grüße aus Darmstadt)
