My Macbook pro 15 inch has 2ghz. is this bad? it does have 16gb of ram and a 500gb HDD
my final cut pro lags my laptop is stock i never changed anything if i do what you did will the lag stop and make things run fast

you have installed RAM with 1333 Mhz clock speed but earlier it was 1600Mhz as in 4gb.. ? won't it make a performance difference or compatibility issues in the longer run? please explain.

I am not 100% sure because I do not have bootcamp on mine but I dont see a reason why it should not.
Will 16gb work on bootcamp win7 64 bits?

This tests will only result in an upgrade if you are runing softwares that changes the USE of ram from 8gb to 16gb using 100% of his capacity ... like render a 3D scene with lots of vertices....

I think OP misinterpret the role of RAM. Open Final Cut + Photoshop After Effect + Word + Safari + Mail, etc then go from one to the other and you’ll see the real effect of more RAM.
I have an old MBP mid 2012 with 4GB ram, going to upgrade the ram.. Can anyone advise if i should get 8 or 16gb. Thinking about buying Corsair ram. Also upgrading the dreadfully slow HD for SSD. Hopefully I’ll see improvement in speed.

You need an SSD, not more RAM. That's how you see the difference.
Do not upgrade with more ram unless you use more apps in the same time or you use 2-3 operating system in the same time your system use only 3gb of ram check activity monitor app ...your system become faster only with a faster processor i7 and best ssd only
l have a mbpr 2012, does bumping it up to 16GB RAM, make a significant difference? l can get it done, but its not as straight forward as a normal computer, as have to solder on the RAM? but if worth it l will do, as if l open up a 3 major softwares, it becomes sluggish
Large textures, huge couple of GB files in PS where more RAM could make a job. Rendering is GPU.

I render not using the Apple Mac but I render with a AMD Ryzen PC with 8Gig DDR4. RAM doesn't make your machine faster but it does make it more expensive and slower. The funniest thing is using 4 RAM sticks actually slows the entire machine down not up. Some people are cooling the MAC Book Pro in a walk in freezer during rendering it apparently helps a lot there are few videos online on how to do this unfortunately you may need a Winter jacket for this and the freeze uses a lot of electricity.

Apple hardware is known to be upgrade unfriendly. although like people have pointed out, you need to use more than 8GB to see a difference! Like content creation and gaming! Your "elder's" laptop is probably fine with 2 or 4 gb for chrome and facebook. :) If you're going to game at latest games in steam and windows 10 store on a GTX1070, you might has well have 16GB of ram before buying a SSD. If your content creation oriented, defenitly buy a SSD before the RAM.

How would the 16gb perform with several apps open at once? Like photoshop, illustrator, etc? I’m debating whether I should get the 16gb since I plan on using several apps at once and I don’t it to skip a beat while I design. Know what I mean?
you really need to have 50 tabs open on safari or something at the same time, light room classic is nothing, all new computer can do
Geekbench shouldn't really be memory dependant if they've done it properly other than the specific test for it

A $200 upfront upgrade cost for doubling the memory is ALWAYS worth it. Don't forget, you can't upgrade later for any amount of money.

Question: I know performance is great in either spec but I've been worried about the much increased swap memory usage and decreased lifespan because of this. Should I get a 16gb variant for a 6+ year lifespan or is this concern unnecessary? My usage will be mainly typing, having 12+ safari tabs open and light photo/video editing occasionally. hi! I kindly ask for your advice for my planned purchase of an m1 macbook pro. I am a student using my current macbook pro for daily basis with basic multitasking like reading pdf’s and simultaneously having web search on chrome while apps like spotify, zoom, whatsapp, microsoft office and dictionaries run in the background. Considering that I am thinking of a long-term purchase (like 6-7 years) but I also need considerable amount of ssd for my files etc. as well, is it enough to get 8gb ram for m1 macbook pro for my basic multitasking usage in the long run or should I go for 16gb one? thanks in advance.
The 8GB model is going to spend a lot of time in swap, writing random data and wear out the SSD a lot faster.

Ordered my first mac ... a mac mini. I am an amateur web developer and use a 8GB ryzen 5 laptop and a 8GB ryzen 5 desktop. 8GB works fine for my setting on windows ... hoping it'll be enough for the time being on macos. $200 looks painful for 8GB ram.

I put 64GB into my last issue 2020 Intel iMac27. Don't get it from Apple, Crucial is 1/3 of the price and better than the Samsung Mac uses

Most laptops are much expensive bin japan than the M1 Mac, and asus or HP high end laptop costs more than the M1 Mac, so buying it makes sense specifically in japan.

I'm looking at Activity Monitor right now on my 2012 MacBook Pro with 16gb of RAM. I never do this. I have 2 monitors running Safari and Chrome tabs open on each monitor. Not running anything intensive. My desktop is clean. I'm using 9.88GB of memory. This made the decision for me. 16GB is good advice. I spend $200 just to walk into Sam's Club. Well OK, the Memory Used is down to 9.01GB now... I use this thing for several hours each day. Save money on garbage bags. Life is very short.
