She says that the G24Q-3 in the video does not have notches, but the one shown actually does have notches. The bulb is just rotated 90 degrees, so the notches are on the sides. I believe the difference between the G24Q-2 and G24Q-3 is that the notches are offset counter-clockwise vs. clockwise (although on the same side of the base, relative to the prongs).

Is the ballast blowing dangerous? I have a bunch of bulbs with notches in the wrong place than what I need and was thinking of sanding down the notches to get it to fit but don't want to have anything be potentially dangerous.
Argh! I have a nutone bathroom fan/light. The sticker in the fixture shows gx24q-4 bulbs, but the socket is clearly a q-1 socket. I think the contractor pulled a fast one on me because the bulb in there never worked well and finally burned out, and when I pulled it, it was clearly a q-4 bulb with the double notches filed off to fit into a q-1 socket!
This cfl lamp specificity is severe BULLSHIT. I want to rip these fixtures out of the walls when i discover them. A relic of the early attempts at efficiency left over from the 60's. Rip out the speciality cfl socket & ballast and replace with standard E26 socket and use one of the many high output LED bulbs using the standard E26 bulb socket.
According to a ballast supplier, the G23 and GX23 are both magnetic ballasts with the same voltage input and output and they are interchangeable. So there is no reason that the G23/GX23 shouldn't work or would blow the bulb. Only the retaining lugs are different. Can't guarantee it but that's what it says. From the ballast supplier: "Magnetic Fluorescent Ballast, 120V, Single 2-pin lamp CFT13W/GX23 or CFQ13W/GX23, Preheat Start Ballast Robertson ElectroMagnetic 2-pin 13W CFL Ballast Preheat Start Performance and Safety UL Type 1 outdoor listed CSA (cUL), CSA22.2."
What a scam everything is in this day and age. The change to cfl bulbs allowed the manufacturers to make the bases specific instead of universal so you have to buy a new bulb instead of using a bulb you just had lying around the house. Do they really need so many variations of bases? Such bs.

Great video. You’ve made a mistake though. with the G24Q-3; it does have a nudge like -1 and -2 has one - it just sits to the right of the center on this model. You would have seen it if you had laid it down on the ‘same side’ as the other two.
She twice mistakenly stated that the "ballast is inside the bulb." Which is not correct of course for these "G"- type base compact florescent bulbs. As the electronic ballast resides in the fixture itself, not the bulb. But still an overall good presentation nevertheless . .

I believe the yellowish which is the color of incandescent is called soft white. I have soft white LED in my bedroom light fixture and they appear to be the same color as the incandescent bulbs that were previously in the fixture.
both packages clearly say CFL on them. that means / stands for: Compact Florescent Light but you say it's incandescent? hmmm.
LED and CFL bulbs are terrible for eyes and health, many doctors and scientists agree and it’s kept on a hush, incandescent bulbs are a more natural healthier bulb and they should not be phased out, even though LED and CFL emit a warm colour don’t be fooled the wavelengths are still the same and still unhealthy
