(A bit of a warning here, I own these and while I truly like the frequency response and damping and such on these, I, like perhaps others who have maybe purchased class “D on class digitally amplified monitors for the first time, have discovered the inherent self noise as hiss that cannot be avoided especially when the program signal or mix falls below a certain level it becomes distracting.)
Please tell ( *Yamaha HS5 vs JBL 306MKii* ) which one is better ?? For my home studio... I do Mixing-mastering nd music production ✨
Plastic fronts??? Did I hear “plastic”??? You’ve gotta be kidding me. Why to save very little cash would these guys stick plastic on the front of these speakers?
The JBL engineers (the greatest in the audio industry) have done an exceptional work in making this series. The JBL 306P MKII I have listened to it several times, it sounds superbly good. The powerful performance is bluffing for such a small box, the medium frequencies sing, the highs are very precise and not at all metallic, and the bass is pretty good for such a small cabinet. The design is a success. The amplifier I imagine that Crown has been there ... it's very good quality. The only thing I regret is the made in china. Would it be a USA or Mexico version, ready to pay more, it's JBL, right ?
Your audio sounds distorted!
What stands are you using?
Got them few days ago haven’t even unboxed them yet till today and one isn’t working the led won’t turn on anyone else had this issue
Why does my audio not play correctly when I installed them into my interface?
I've owned the original version of these for years, still love them as much as I did the day I bought them. They perform waaaay better than anything else for the same price.
What stands are you using?
I have got it few hours ago and tried it. It is really good i think! And i just listened direct from my laptop with chinees rca cables and ts jack. Not on a professional interface or something. I had some scare that the 306 is so big that i have to listen it on big volume but it is sound nice on low volume too. I didnt made a bad buying.
Do they sell in pairs or individual
Sow how adjust in back setting
I’m waiting for delivery of these beauties... I’m going to run my Hammond XK-5 Organ therethrough.
what about the loud hiss?
Excellent reference!
I bought a pair of JBL 306 MKII studio monitor 3 days ago, i find speakers volume is too low even after keeping 100% volume in my computer and sound card. To be exact, i got 0 to 10 gain level in each speaker . So in my speakers volume is starting only after 2 gain level, below that its mute and good volume is coming only after 6+ gain level.
So is that a manufacturing defect or its normal ? Do i need to replace it from the seller ?
Monitors are monitors. They reproduce souce precisely. Want louder? Get bigger woofers and amp.
Hi! I purchased a pair of the 306s few weeks back. Now when I am connecting them to my audio interface Behringer UMC 404 hd, I need to turn up the volume knob all the way upto 9. The volume levels on my PC are kept at 50%. My other Sony speakers sound great whereas the JBLs sound very low. Should I use an amplifier or a pre-amp software? Please help...
Would these work if I just wanted to play my Kronos through them, It's only for my home use? I would also like to be able to have my laptop come through them as well as I am using a software program, (Playground Sessions) to help me learn to play the keyboard. I know you might think it's overkill having a Kronos before I even learned to play, but due to a disability I had to give up my 40 year guitar playing, so I traded all my guitar related gear and came home with a Kronos. I've been playing for a year now and I'm using two large amps and I would love to slim it down, I don't need to be playing through 800 watts and massive speakers. I don't like being a newbie at age 60. Thank you.
Nice video man. Good to see someone from Quebec. I’m from Montreal

305 needs a sub. 308 are too muddy. The 306 is that happy place. Great decision. These are the most honest speakers on the market. Enjoy!
Get the subwoofer.
Does this guy remind anyone else of Shrek?
How about the bass at low end frequencies?
great review and attitude/ personality. got my sub and i dont ever sub to people after 1 video. 👍🏼👍🏼🤘🏽🤘🏽
This small series of professional studio monitors 3 series, a luxury for use at home, is extremely well manufactured, the sound is fabulous, the design superb, but it is a Chinese manufacture and it causes me a case of conscience.
I have been a fan of JBL since 1977, so much this American company can get bored and proud to have contributed enormously to the evolution of the audio industry through its numerous patents including in-depth studies on constant directivity technology. , bass reflex, loudspeaker cooling, the invention of the design and so-called array technology, the list goes on. JBL, a Californian brand, produces all of its own loudspeakers, the best in the audio industry, in contrast to 80% of brands that have never manufactured a single loudspeaker.
What I deplore today is the excessive relocation of products to China. I can understand the strategy of manufacturing where we sell, okay, Asia is a big market for JBL but the china manufacture of the Harman group should in my opinion as an economist be sold exclusively in the Asian region, not in the rest of the world, a strategic error.
JBL has a state-of-the-art factory in Mexico Tijuana that could be expanded, and it's just a stone's throw from Northridge, California.
In view of the health crisis which China is causing, I think that consumers will look carefully at the origin of manufacturing, and, China will be shunned, rejected. Already many people no longer want Chinese goods, I do not say Asian.
Salut Francis, trouve tu que le noise floor des speakers est gossant? Je les entends assez bien à 5 pieds de distance et je focus juste la dessus maintenant.
I got the same setup inc the 404hd do you have the input set to +4 or -10
Are these good to use in the living room, connected to the tv? for casual music listening, gaming, movies. Thanks in advance!
Using lsr 305s 1st gen for a couple of years maiInly for listening music (mostly acoustic stuff) - for the price there is almost no alternatves 0o, havea friend sound eng. guy who heard them when visiting me for some drinks and he was amased how this lil speakers sound and what sound stage they are capable to reproduce. He even thinks the lsr-s sound better on some speciffic stuff than his office thousands of dollars pro monitors:) 305-s lack a little on the low end that's why ithink to get the lsr sub for them:)
do u have to buy 2 separately or does it come with 2
I’m a noob at this but what cables do I need to connect this to an audio interface (Focusrite2)
I'm new to these things. Do I connect them to an external thingy (amplifier?)?
Hello, Thank you puting effort for review this speaker, i have question regarding bass...I want to create techno music, and i dont think so this speakers will be good for that, please correct me if I am wrong...
How do these connect together in a pair?
Hi Great review. How would you compare this to more expensive studio monitoring speakers? I recently bought JBL p 304 and now am thinking to give this away and purchase JBL 306! Thanks!
That room must be aweful to mix in..
Thanks for the vid :-)
PANTERA!!!!!
My brother has a pair of these hooked to his TV
He loves them but for the money I think JBL dropped the ball on these.
As far as the hiss. When they were connected the hiss was really bad.
I hooked a ground loop isolator and it took
the hiss out almost completely but not all of it.
Since we used his head phone audio out I used this isotalor.

i just bought the 305's on a good sale, got them set up and was feling happy about it (even with the hiss). now i got a little extra money tho and i'm probably gonna pack them up, return em and go for some Monitor 5's or vanatoos.
vinyl wrap the front of them
Please tell HS5 vs 306MKii which one is better ?? For my home studio... I do Mixing-mastering nd music production ✨
sorry for the noob question - how do i make both speakers work? do i need an external audio interface?
Great Review. Like and Subscribed,
Is the hiss sound normal on them jbl speakers?
The white noise goes away
Just use expensive cable
Can I use unbalanced quarter inch guitar Jack's on these.???
Nice video, got the 305p MKII myself and Iam very happy
Very good review and automatically liked when I spotted your Bruce Lee shirt ;-)
These 306s are noisy and I dislike the dip in the 1 kHz area so probably will not buy thanks to your detailed review!
Hey Joe when doing the sound review at the end you show the original track then you switch to the JBL speakers. What is the original track? Is that also the JBL speaker pumping through a different system? I like the sound much better when it says original track. Forgive me for not knowing the terminology. I have a movie projector in my bedroom (believe it or not) and I’m looking for a decent set of speaker to go with this projector and I was considering these JBL’s and if they turn out to be too big for my bedroom I may consider adding them to my surround system in my living room using these and rear surrounds to my 5.2.2
jbl speakers are good for casual listening, but compared to a yamaha hs7 is more of a flatter sound you would want for music production
bascially get yamahas studio monitors hs7s for a bedroom or hs8s for a bigger room for production
get jbls for like djing or just casual listening to music
Great monitors, but the dip at the crossover point sounds nasty. I'd probably take the 305p over the 306 even at the same price.
i thought you was bouda spit some bars at 0:22
Have you checked the Ground and Earth working properly. Because that is way too much noise. I don’t think JBL will incorporate that without any particular interest. As graph reveals it is sort of pink noise ( decreasing every octave). I think to ask about this issue before making a purchase of my new monitors for surround setup. As you have mentioned that their Gain Knob is also not calibrated and had a flaw more than 3 dB. Thats way too insane I don’t think that JBL will ever do such thing, as each unit goes extensive quality checks and measurements. But after watching your review I’m skeptical about these units. I’ll mail HARMAN and ask for clarifications before purchase. Thanks.
Hey Joe - can you do a review on the JBL 530 & 590?
Great review. I'm trying to find some smaller power speakers that will work well with a home karaoke setup. Don't want it too large. Just small enough to provide some great sound while being able to fit near the television. Can you recommend any? It'll be used with a Mackie mixer. Thanks!
I just received the JBL 308P MkII. Still evaluating. I can say, there is no hiss what so ever, even at full volume.
Can you use a amp with the jbl Studio monitors?
