Bought mine years ago and started on the archives of slides from one of my gran mothers who had passed away. It took time but the results are good and still very good details. The slides went to pc hdd's and the G4050 still works fine here with Windows 10 2017 though I rarely use it these days. The only trouble is with black/white negative which it had trouble with. But otherwise a great long term investment.

I look into my box with the wirers and CD's and don't find any software for Apple OS? Does this scanner only work with windows?
You did not explain any of the configuration functions, like how to open on the computer, how to force the scanned items to go directly to my pictures folder. Overall you did a pretty good job on what you covered.

I think it was 2010 or so when I purchased one for the slide scanning options mainly. The images came out great even for printing and saved some of the family history which is still on hard drive today. Also did some negatives and the only trouble has been some black and white negatives turning too dark. I have used it with Windows Vista, 7 ultimate and 10. Just Google the driver and utility software for your operating system. It is still available! It is still a great value for the money and the results still look great today.

I don't have the same dialog boxes on my G4050 as this guy has. As a matter of fact, I don't even have the same negative holder. Mine has to be positioned the long way, leaving empty spaces. HP scanner sucks. Software doesn't have the flexibilty of the Epson scanners. Plus the fact that HP hasn't given an update for this in ages. Never buy another HP scanner. Going back to Epson.
Now that it's been 9 years, how does this scanner hold up to what the current market has?

Thank you for your comments. Like you indicated, it can be promising but the images captured are muddy and lacking the high resolution. I have even used the VueScan software to assist in capturing, as I am trying to digitize my negative library, but overall, I have had to give up and am looking at the Epson V800 film scanner. If you are going to invest the time, then do it right, as the most amount of time is spent loading and optimizing the scans. I have found the HP software better at maintaining the crop section, whereas VueScan seems to have issues with the G4050 film holder margins, and always scans the wrong areas.
Hello! Thanks for the video it was very useful! I have one question, I'm thinking about buying the HP Scanjet G4050, but it might not come with the plastic holder for the negatives. Is that piece necessary? Would I be able to scan negatives using a home made solution?

HP g4050 software so offal but if you use Vuescann software you will get same result of 9000F from it .
