I ordered HP 902 ink cartridges for a HP OfficeJet Pro 6978. I installed the cartridges in the printer and got a “Incompatible cartridge” message on my printer. The Cyan ink cartridge is the issue. I re-installed the EMPTY Cyan cartridge and the printer accepted the cartridge with no error messages. After trying 4 (four) more brand new HP Cyan cartridges purchased, the same “Incompatible cartridge “message displayed. Further research revealed that the Cyan cartridge is made in Malaysia and the other cartridges are made in China including the empty Cyan cartridge that was taken out of the printer. The only ink cartridges that are compatible are the ones made in China. Is there a work-around for this issue?

great tutorial, but my cartridge doesn't come with a cover over the sponge or fill hole. Am I missing something here?

I re-filled all of my colour cartridges as they were almost empty, but the printer still says my ink is still almost empty, I tried printing 2 test pages with full colour blocks but it doesn't work. They have almost no colour on them. I got a link to HP on the first try asking me to order cartridges. I remember with my older HP printer which had HP56-57 cartridges that to refill them you had to cover a part of the chip to fool the printer. On your tutorial you don't mention anything like this. What is happening? thanks

Will this work for an hp cartridge I have recently bought? Or will the newer chips cause problems? Also do you how to fix print quality? I have he same printer and my magenta looks awful. I have cleaned my printer head twice and still has lighter lines within the pink and the color looks so faded.

Kevin, great video. Just made my second order with BCH. Here's a tip for the 902XL: use a heated push pin or (better yet) a small metal pick to melt a small hole in the fill ball. Then use a small screw or picture hanging eye to thread into the ball. Pull on the screw or eye with pliers to remove the ball. Then use a 9/64" drill bit by hand to remove the little bit of plastic that was below the ball. Otherwise neither the clear nor colored 4mm plugs will seat completely into the 902XL cartridge.
