For me 256gb+1tb is better because as we know that the OS will not consume whole 256gb so every application or fast access items we can store it in ssd and other things we can store in hdd and also if ssd is not capable of any more application than we shift those application which we not use so frequently or not so heavy software to the hdd and heavy software and more often using software we can store it in ssd so overall storage is also more and benefit is also more.
