Take a Bite of Paulownia! | Dean EVO XM Mahogany Review + Demo
like the dean 79 v guitar and im fan dave of megadeth testament in metal and doom metal like candlemass and orange amps and pedals.
Holy shit do you have a noise supressor in your voice or something?
Quick question , is the neck thinner than an epiphone les Paul ?
I love the guitar, but thought it sounded like ass in this video.
How much does this compare to a DBZ Cavallo?
Hi! this guitar has a THIN and COMFORTABLE neck? is a C or V neck?
This guy consistently gets the worst tone I've ever heard.
which should i buy? thee dean v or the dean with the explorer shape or the dime camo?
the only reason it sound like shit is because hes playing thru a cheap ass amp.
Just bough one, and I'm totally lovin it :))
Sounds like a crap... cheap shit
will the vx look big on a 5"6 person?
I think I just bought this dean guitar at the pawnshop today!
Still fucking amazing!!!!!
4 Months down the road how is it?
i just bought the guitar. its fuckin awesome.
Gibson isn't a pro grade instrument. Their guitars are way overpriced and they don't even offer custom shop options. If you want a pro guitar you should get a guitar you desigen from one of the many custom shops. What Gibson called custom is nothing more than an inflated priced low quality machine made guitar passed off as a custom guitar.
An improvement that the Dean V has over the Gibson Flying V: They put the strap buttons in the right places. It doesn't dive when you stand up!
If you play Gibson flying Vs then why not this..?? Also, true gibsons are some of the sweetest things around. You get what you pay for. Same goes for fender n the like. 'Professional' instruments arent cheap, but these are good fun nonetheless. Also helps to have a nice proper amp. Grrrr.
most things are better than gibsons
Shreddin the Vendetta today.
Picking a used one up tomorrow for 70 bucks, booked to go to a luthier to give it a once over/set-up (something a mate who plays guitar advised), then at 48 years old, will be diving into the world of learning guitar. Thanks for the upload, can't wait to start this journey.
(7:19) you can't just sneak in smoke on the water like that XD
My bestfriend in high school had this exact guitar 15 years ago. He was literally the best guitarist I knew. Havent been in touch but wouldnt be surprised if he still only played this guitar, and never upgraded he was very humble.
I have the old one, with the satin black finish and without the whammy bar.. Absolutely destroys for doom and stoner metal.. Even with the stock pickups!
I've got one of these as my first guitar and I absolutely love it. Mines in a red finish and it looks really nice
You are a great player metal. It is good upgrade with EMG 81 y 60 pickups?
The title of this video becomes hilarious about halfway through lol it sounds amazing
Very authentic presentation of your talent my friend. Supporting you here waiting for you
Okay now you’re just showing off.

I just ordered a black one...
Does it stay in tune well when using the whammy?
what pickups does this guitar have? active or passive pickups?
Damn for $400 guitar this does sound amazing!!
someone likes his dive bombs
Do you recomend this guitar? The FR is good?

I had one of these got it new at Guitar Center back in 2006. Thing I didn't like about it was sharp frets. My first guitar I bought was in a kit it was a Baja strat copy paid 65.00 for the guitar with amp was a way better guitar out of the box than the Dean I paid 100.00 for and was set up when I bought it.I sold the Dean evo/XM about a month after I bought it. Pickups wernt bad on it. I now have a Two Glarrys one a burning fire the other is a ST strat in white I'll take a Glarry over a Dean any day.
What is that cleaning fluid that you used for the headstock, body and fretboard? What can be used that is similar? What size covers fit those pickups?
Killer review man!!! You have a new follower!!!
I bought one of these Dean EVO XM guitars ages ago, that was before Youtube ever came out online. When they started selling these guitar their ads stated it was Honduran mahogany for the body wood. The same wood used in Gibsons expensive reissue SG guitars. Really it was just stained basswood. My XM is rough around the edges, especially the entire neck looks so damn cheap but you could not ask for a more beautiful sounding electric guitar. Maybe the fact that it has no paint makes the body resonate in some magical way. I don't remember what I paid for it but I think it was around 100 dollars or so for the guitar. The entire guitar looks cheap but it's sound make it a keeper.
this was my very first electric!!! only 99 bucks NEW at musicians friend in 2004, and it was a DREAM to play. sounded awesome, and PLAYED sooooo much better than all the other Squiers and les paul knockoffs i was borrowing at the time. i still have this thing too! so cool to see this getting reviewed at Trogly!!!
Wow that's ugly
Just like to point out we have the same strap okay bye
Hi I have the same guitar but the bridge pick up has low output. I already bought a replacement but for the life of me can not understand how the wiring at the back is done. The one that I got for replacement is the typical seymour duncan with five wires (red and white soldered together, green and bare soldered together and black (hot) wire). Seems that it does not follow the regular 1vol 1 tone 3way switch wiring. any ideas on how I can do this? Cant find any videos on the net for these dean evo xm's Thanks
0.3 lbs does not equal 3 ounces it's closer to 5 ounces
How about a set of Seymour duncun hot rods.for it?
I had one of these 10 years back and it was surprisingly a decent little guitar.
The body is basswood, not Paulownia.
The first thing you need to do before you review a guitar is make sure everything works. Contact cleaner isn't going to fix a 1/4" jack. Either the positive contact is bent or you have a loose wire/solder connection. Learn your electronics. The next thing you need to do is plug it into a good amplifier and adjust the settings to actually attempt to achieve a good sound. I own one of these, and it actually sounds better than some of my more expensive guitars, but as with every guitar, you have to use a good amplifier and make adjustments according to the instrument. Don't plug in a guitar on a low gain channel and play Metallica, expecting it to sound good.
I just picked up a mahogany set neck version of this guitar and absolutely love it. I was very surprised at the playability of it and really enjoy the tones I get from it. Upgrading the pickups is still on my list of things to do, but for the time being it has become my easy player at home.
This is funny. I bought one identical to this one. It needs a serious cleaning, new strings and a set up. I paid 60 bucks for it. I did change the pick ups(2 ephiphone humbucker's) it's still waiting for strings. Over all its not bad. I like it better than my strat, the action is better.
The problem with Dean's in this price range is that they are so cheap no one thinks they are any good.
I came here cuz someone listed one on FB marketplace this week for 100 bucks. If it were 50 bucks I'd get it to play around with all day.
My first guitar was a Dean Evo that I got for less than 100 bucks i think, and I've sold most of the guitars I've bought later but this one I still got because it's simply the best beginner-guitar I've ever seen. No, it's obviously not one of the best guitars out there, but it definitely holds it's own against much more expensive guitars.
Looks like basswood. Paulonia has alot of grain, like ash, and is SUPER light. It would be noticeably lighter than other guitars. Rock on!
