You used the wrong jockey wheels supposed to use the narrow wide 12 tooth
Having knowledge of what you’re doing first helps! A bearing isn’t necessary in a jockey wheel on a mountain bike.
There are two jockey wheels in a rear derailleur. The upper one is the Guide wheel and the lower one is the Tension wheel. The Tension wheel doesn't have this play and the Guide wheel does, so that the chain will be guided onto the sprocket more efficiently. The problem with the great majority of Ebay bought jockey wheels is that they are almost all Guide wheels, with play as they should have. The colorful ones are those that most purchasers want to show off, but if they are Guide wheels, they are hard to see. The name brands usually sell them in sets.
on the contrary, the little amount of play is actually needed for the guide wheel to function properly .. the lateral float takes up the differences in tolerances between indexing and the actual cassette spacing
I upgraded to Ceramic Jockey wheel for 12speeds and it work well best for XC bike
The plain bush bearings are proven tech... A balance between efficiency and reliability. A ball bearing is great but needs to be maintained rigorously because any dirt inside will wear the balls out fast, they need lubricant and this attracts grit as well. A plain bush will work as the plastic wheels don't need that much lubrication so the dish washer is sufficient to keep it running clean.
last time I looked at a modern derailleur jockey wheels they appeared to be made of plastic or carbon fibre rubbish. The ones I had on my bike in the 1960’s were proper ones made out of metal .Those old school chain ,sprockets & derailleur gears never wore out .The cranks had proper cotter pins & never came loose ,the bearings were better than the crap modern ones in tin cages you get now .People are getting ripped off for push bikes these days they are made out of cheap crap metals & plastic tat .The bike manufacturers are laughing all the way to the bank
