Amazing work! I'd like to see more about programming the tool paths and such And which type of coolant you are using.
As a Manufacturing Specialist, I love seeing videos like this sharing and spreading Machining Knowledge.
i wish we had one of these machines in our shop.. perhaps eventually
Amazing work! I'd like to see more about programming the tool paths and such!
Pretty interesting video, really enjoyed learning new things about material specific tooling and adaptive toolpaths.
CNC machining is like blending science, art, and maximum efficiency all at the same time. And high-speed pathing has numerous cost and efficiency advantages over traditional pathing. Lastly, every time I watch these videos I always want to know what the part is and want to see it in use after it's been installed. (Obviously, it's not possible with everything but it would be great where allowable). Cheers!
For roughing I prefer a ZrN coating, then finish with an uncoated endmill.
Awesome video! I would like to see the part finished!!
Never get sick of watching aluminium peeling out like that.
Some great tips! Manual programming definitely has its place, but CAM programming is taking over. So many advantages. Love the videos!
Adaptive tool paths are much easier on the machine and tooling. Great video!
What CAM software are you using?
Awesome video, love high speed machining is the way to go!, as our shop changed hands. We are stating to move towards this more often , old school machining methods are great and helped build American. But it's a must to progress with the times!
Pretty rad. I'm a manual machinist, I am getting my first cnc mill next year. Pretty excited to dig into that stuff.
Glad I heard about the polish of endmills that don't let chips stick to it. I thought it was just to increase cutting speed of coated endmills.
Dadgum he got that machine humping thru that material 12k rpm is crazy fast
Deep cuts and constant tool engagement are a benefit to the high speed machining.
Overall the video was very well done. Great presentation and use of real machining footage. However the video didn't really talk about what an adaptive toolpaths actually are and more just showed footage of using one. Maybe the next video can focus on exactly what the difference is between adaptive toolpaths and regular toolpaths and why you should you certain ones under different circumstances. Showing some footage of the CAM program used and how to set up adaptive toolpaths would also be really helpful.
I liked the explanation on the cutting tool. I was unaware of polishing having an effect on material sticking to the tool. I'm a rookie machinist trainee and I had no idea about any of the factors he mentioned with his tool choice. Very interesting information.
Great video! I've been trying to push my boss in this direction, he still sticks to his old-school feeds and speeds. He's slowly coming to realize that the tooling is capable of much more
Perhaps you might want to give Kennemetal HARVI solid carbide end mills a try next time, full depth of cut, maybe .0040 - .0065" inch per tooth. The folks at Kennemetal could give you more specific advice on RPMs and feed rates related to your hardened tool steel slot cutting project. I watched these cutters on other CNC videos cutting titanium and inconel.... They're like a Timex watch, they take a licking and keep on ticking! I suspect that they would do well on your hardened tool steel slotting.
The holes will be destroying your inserts due to the interrupted cut, you also need high pressure airblast tbh and not flood for tool steels. For high hardness stainless coolant works but for carbon steels and alloyed tool steels a air blast allows the inserts to heat up. You want the inserts to heat up not to be cold... This activates the nano coating unsure what your inserts are coated with. The inserts coating provides lubricity by heating them up the heat is removed out of the material and the cutter by the chip you want to be making hold to purple chips visually. I hardmilling 63hrc martensitic stainless every day on my okuma and Mikron if you need help let us know. Keep at it! Us young blokes only can continue to learn.
nice windows on the left, how did it happen
I am an up and coming millennial machine shop/business owner myself. I have been getting into YouTube video production as well. Keep up the good work!
