Hi, Robert. I saw you on the Nick Zenter episode a few days ago. And just watched this one. I've got an old copy of the Roadside Geo of MT and your new one. I've been to Glacier NP 18 times- its my favorite park and I've been to most of them. Your info on the Purcell Sill great but I have more Qs on the geology of the park. I'm updating my 93 min documentary "Glacier: The Hiker's National Park" and want to include a segment on geology. It's one of the most most viewed Glacier video on youtube- despite the efforts of the 6000 yr old world folks. Anyway... How old are the Stromatolites at Upper Grinnell Lake under the Purcell Sill? I talk about it in the Grinnell Glacier Trail segment which I wrote in 2010ish. I'm not sure its accurate. Any other interesting info regarding the geo on the trail- origin of the red Argalite ? or dates on the ripple marks would be interesting. Its my understanding the red rock is a metamorphic shale- which means it was once a sea floor and once far below the sea floor where it was hardened. Then Later - when?- it was pushed up when the rest of the west coast accreted. Quite a story! Also, in simple terms why is the green rock of similar composition green and not red like its cousin? From memory the green is younger and there was less O2 to rust the Fe. There are some great folds in the red rock off the Bullhead Lake trail. I assume the fold occurred during the accretion collision with the craton? At what depth? 100 MA ago ish? I'm still trying to find an easy way to explain detail of the Louis Overthrust to park vistors- a couple of sentences just don't grab the imagination of the viewers. There's a great view from the Ptarmgan Tunnel of what I've been calling a fault heading toward the Canadian Border. There must be an interesting tale there somewhere. I know I'm asking a lot and you've got important things to do, but any help will be appreciated and I'll credit you and the book in the video. the older version has over 1.5 million views so you will be helping lots of folks. Many of my glacier videos have well over 100k views. BTW- my video took over 30 days to shoot and much longer to write and edit. So it's not a typical youtube video - its all voice over so lots of shots of the park. FYI- my Utah Parks tour has over 2 million views- I try to make my content as accurate as possible any help will be appreciated. Steve The West is Big!

Nice videos on the Bitterroots. You are right, hiking the Bitterroot wilderness is a definite "wilderness" experience. We also backpacking the Bitterroots last summer (late August) and found it to be a nice time of isolation in the wilderness, even up at Canyon Lakes (during the middle of the week). Thanks for all your videos we really enjoy them.
