Of course it's not going to display phone notifications. It's a fitness tracker, not a smartwatch. It's designed to track your fitness, calories burned and display the time. If you want a watch that's going to connect with your phone and display notifications, get a smartwatch.

Jeff has helped me with a number of electronic itemsstill need something that will track steps while pushing shopping cart/carriage or dog walking. my fitbit zips (4of them) don't work once battery is replaced also count repetitive hand movements as steps
I’ve had my Garmin vivofit 2 for 3 years and didn’t need to change the battery and it’s really good
I have worn the VivoFit 2 nearly every day since early 2015. The battery finally required replacement in December 2018 so I have no complaints about the battery life. It is an all around good device that is truly durable. While I agree with Jeff that it is missing a few really great features below it has met all of the most important requirements for a fitness tracker. Having used the auto sleep tracker for a few years, it think it works much better than Jeff suggested. One of the features I like the most is not having to constantly remove and charge the device. It is also a very strong feature that I do not need to remove it to shower or swim. The steps counter works well and Garmin has done much to revamp the Connect app so as to be much more appealing and intuitive in design. The only other features I would like to see in the device are listed below, but I am at this point not willing to give this device up just yet as it has been completely reliable and trouble free. The only other features I would like to see without trading off any of the strengths I have listed above are Find my device , Find my phone, Music control, Phone notifications and Silent Alarm.
Is the heartrate monitor on the device or do you need the attachment
libbietaffy 1 minute ago I just bought my second vivofit 2 my previous is several years old. I love I have not set up the new one yetmy questiondo I have to uninstall the previous software and install the new software? Or can I just pair my vivofit and it will work? I am 70 years old so want this to go as easily as I can. THANKS

Garmin connect has become SO much better over the years.
some of the stuff reported is not accurate. the watch is great, and you do not have to let the watch know ur sleeping.
I know an old video and you may not reply. Can you buy a chest strap heart strap for this? I've been told yes but best buy says no.

Hi Jeff, i have the Vivofit 1, had it for years, Garmin connect has an updated version. It's in color's, I was updated about a year ago.
What batterys dose it take i got 1 second hand and it didnt come with batterys

Today, for the first time I got the message to change the battery. I have the correct size Phillips screwdriver but the screws will not budge. I have been trying to get the screws out for over a half hour. I'm frustrated.
I know I'm late but the app updated do it records proper sleep and how much you woke up fees sleep and light sleep also mine records my sleep automatically

Awesome review Jim! I've had the base vivofit without the heart monitor option for over a year. For what it is, the vivofit works fine, and what it is - is just a fancy pedometer with frustrating limitations (namely, no illumination option). I have a little trouble thinking of the vivofit as a "fitness tracker" when all it seems to consistently track is arm-swinging as a result of walking. If walking and running is your main acrivity, this device works great. I've used my handheld GPS dozens of times to compare with my vivofit results while walking/hiking over distances of 3, 5, 8, 10 and 12 mile tests. The two devices compared mind-blowingly well. However, when I work on my property (push mowing, chopping, handsawing, shoveling soil, stacking wood, etc.) My vivofit in most cases indicates (with red line) that I've been sitting on my ass all day, even after being outside for 8 hours doing hard-labor. I understand that the device really only measures walking or running, so this is not a big shock. I just think of it as a pedometer, not an "activity" monitor. Especially when the bulk of my physical activities do not register on the device simply because so many physical, sweat-producing, calory-burning activities do not require one to swing an arm in just that certain way that the vivofit requires in order to get credit. I have on occasion, placed the device in my pants pocket to get a little credit for pushing a lawnmower or walking around with tools in my hands, but it's not very practical to have to remember to do that in the first place. Great pedometer! Acrivity monitor? Meh! There is an option to manually enter activities which quickly became drudgery.

i don't understand why these fitness trackers don't have built in stopwatches. i just think it would make sense if someone wanted to run a certain time for a certain distance

When you don't have the HR, does it take your pulse?
You can assign chores through the app, does the kid have to be on the app to see what chores need to be done? Is there a way to see them on the watch and mark that they are done? I don't want my kid getting on his tablet all the time, only as a reward once everything is complete.

I wish @Garmin would add a way to FIND a lost device. My son lost his device in our house and no one can find it. I wish I could set off the alarm from my phone so that we could listen for the beeps. This seems like an easy fix in the app and would save us a lot of stress. We have had it for THREE DAYS and he already took it off and can't remember where he put it.

Hi! Can Aults were the Star Wars jr2 bb8? I do find the features usefull. The tracking feature will aid in monitoring my health eg. walking and many other features. I was given one, due to my collection of bb8. I would love to wear it. I love the colour orange. It's a colour I wear a lot of. Thanks for making such a wonderful product.
