I have had one for 2 weeks now and the hr readings are way off at times. Yesterday, I was riding hill intervals and my heart was pounding like crazy, but the watch was displaying only 120, while when measuring with my Garmin chest strap hrm that would be +175. On the other hand, today I was just sitting and watching some video and the watch displayed hr 200. I don't think I have ever managed to get my hr that high in my entire life. Totally unreliable in my view, but the 45 can't be paired with a chest strap hrm either.
I have the Samsung Galaxy Watch but the lack of interval workout forced me to see an additional watch. this one is cheap and i think i will go for it to have my customized workout.
How many features do you lose without a smartphone connected?
Just what I needed. Thanks.
Liked the review. I have a Fenix 6 Pro but looking for a smaller and cheaper option for my gf.
Only remark I have concerning your comment on pricing of iWatch vs. FR45s ... You need an iPhone to go with the iWatch. The Garmin will work/sync with various Systems, even without a Phone.
Forerunner 110 was a round face with 4 buttons. It was the cheapest at the time in 2011 ish.
I bought a 45s laat week and this video was really helpful to get to know all the detailed features.
I have one simple question, in your video is the backlight on all the time? I don't find the 'always on' face is readable unless I also use the backlight. There's not enough contrast.
Have set it to trigger backlight on gesture as a solution but wondered if there is another deep setting I can use to increase readability of the screen without using the backlight?
very quick! Hard to keep up with!
Great review. I would love to see a review of the polar m430, also.
Hello do you know if this watch has a broadcasting heart rate?
Hi dose it work for kayaking or row??
I’m religiously running 4 times a week, all year round. And I still use a Garmin 45 in 2021.
All I need is elapsed time, pace, distance and sync to Strava. I can’t justify buying another Garmin like the 945 or Fenix6.
99% of the times I run with a phone so if I ever need maps or contactless payment I use my phone. If you’re from the UK the MapFinder app has some fantastic OS maps which save to your phone so you don’t even need a signal to see them.
I recently noticed the 745 has a running track mode. But I’ve never had a problem on a running track with the 45, it seems accurate enough and still records running track segments. If you’re training for distance and there’s any doubt about the start and finish point, just do an extra lap and that’ll ensure you’ve done your 5k or 10k around the track.
For treadmills I bought a Garmin foot pod a which clips onto my running shoe laces, this enables the 45 to record my treadmill run and sync it, just like I’ve done a normal run, it just doesn’t show a map on Strava
I purchased the same watch but I’m not sure how I keep track of my steps
This must be the 5th or 6th video I've watched on setting up the Garmin 45 and I cannot comprehend why these people have to talk as if they're in a race. I apologize in advance to all the folks who can follow these people but I cannot. Why can't they slow down, and just describe the operation in 1,2,3 sequence in simple terms? SLOW DOWN! I just want to know how to operate this thing!
Do you need your phone for GPS? Also is 45 waterproof for swimming?
Late, but THIS is what you call a product review. I wish others had 1/2 the content this review had. I have an antiquated 230, but it does all I want it too. But I've had this 45 in mind as I love screen + super legible type. I don't need music so this seems fine. Also have the instinct in mind, and maybe the 735 (which will likely be more than I need). I'll watch you reviews for that too. Thx !
It is a great gps watch for the money BUT the vibration/alerts for interval training are "weak"/"low volume". This means you can setup a structured workout but you cannot hear or feel the alerts of the different intervals. So if you want to do a structured workout you need to carry an smartphone and headset to get the instructions/alerts. There is no way to increase the volume of the beeps or intensity of the vibration. If I knew this beforehand I would have bought a different watch.
Forerunner 35 or Huawei Gt2e ?
Great review! Can you upload a gpx file from the Garmin connect app to the watch so you can follow the path? Thanks!
While it clear that you know everything about this watch, you go through it way to fast for a newbie ( and old person ) . You click the buttons so fast that I can't follow even by pausing.
Thank you sir.
did not help at all, you go to fast
How to change the miles to kilometer?
Jimmy Chin has really diversified of late
Does it work well of a iPhone 7?
I think the hart rate is decent and it has a nice sleep tracker.and you don't need the newest phone or ios. Maybe it's a nice first smart watch!
Sadly it doesn't have altimeter
Great review, mate- many thanks!
Hi im kayaker dos it work for my sport? i mean dose it have row item?
I love my Forerunner 45. I remember the days, we didn't have GPS. All I care about is, pace, distance, and accuracy.
The 45 uses the same Sony GPS as the 945. Both have the same almost perfect, accuracy. When downloaded to Garmin Connect. I have all the mapping, averages, and totals, I need.
I don't need a watch that plays music, provides maps, answers phone, or pays my credit card. Or replaces my Garmin Nuvi, or MP 3 player.
Des, any update on the Garmin Coach video mentioned?
Nice video Desfit. I'm looking to get my first smart watch/fitness band to help improve fitness and health, do you have any videos that show what you actually do with the data collected to assist your fitness regime?
Best review, by Miles!!
Can the heart rate monitor on the Forerunner 45 be connected to the Garmin Edge 130 Plus?
I'm probably getting this one. Thanks.
Anyone else notice the pace and batt % is shown only in increments? Live pace at 0:05 increments and batt % at 20% increments. Would've been nice to see the actual value. Or am I just missing a setting?
Which one will be reccomend, between
Fitbit charge 4 & garmin forerunner 45??
You can get the Forerunner 45 here: https://geni.us/forerunner45
Thanks for watching folks!
does this track elevation gain for an activity?
What is better between garmin Fr45 and coros Pace? Thanks
Hi there! Thanks so much for the great review!
I'm still not sure whether to get the FR45s or VA4s. I'm mainly a runner and want to improve that with garmin coach. But I also love HIIT and bodyweight workouts, how's the tracking going for those kind of exercises?
Thanks for your help! :)
is there anyway to track free weight training on 45? I dont care about rep counting, just a general record of weight lifting with rough calorie usage?
How Can i see my route that i ran?
It's ok. Priced a bit too high. $100 would be fair.
Is it possible to add strength training to activities?
Hi this watch is better that polar m430?
Would you do a review of the Forerunner45 vs Vivoactive3 ? They are similar in price and both have Garmin coach support which I would like to use to train for half marathon. I started running a few years ago at age 50 and am up to 25-30miles per week (currently using MapMyRun app on my phone - no wrist watch, so no HR and no cadence which I would both like to track). I also started to do bodyweight exercises and would like to track those on a good app. Thanks!
Awaiting that full review. Hope you could squeeze in a comparison to the FR235 given the price similarities. Thanks :)
hi :) i would like to ask you what are the main differences between Forerunner 45 and 235? i am looking for a watch for half marathons and some easier trail runnings (10-15km with max. 500m elevation) and FR 45 and 235 has a very similar price tag (at least in my country) and i'm a bit stuck which is the better choice...thanks for helping me :)
Awesome stuff, keep hammering this great content out!
Nice, helpful video. I’m keen for the in depth review.
How is the display compared to older Garmin watches? Is it better?
Nice overview. Looking forward to the full review.
Does it track v02 max, suggest restitution time and those things?
Does it have swimming?
Awesome so this forerunner 45 is better than a 235?
Thank you for making great videos.
Forerunner 35 or Huawei Gt2e ?
Fitbit breaks down as soon as warrenty is over. They immediately offer discounts code like they expected it.
How does it do in the cold?
what about battery ??
I may have to return my Vivoactive 4 for this. There's too much crap on the Vivoactive 4 for my simple needs.
Is the Forerunner 45 waterproof?
No touchreen = no big lags
This or the 735 xt?
Nice review, thanks. I just bought a 45 to replace my (8 year old) Forerunner 110...really looking forward to playing with my new toy! Just hope Garmin have fixed the strap issue. My 110 strap broke off completely and it seems to be a common problem.
Can you monitor a rowing session?
Looking for a watch for my cardio workouts, running, cycling but mostly jump rope, resistance bands and burpees. Is the garmin 45 a good one for me, or is something like the suunto 5 better. Small wrist. Thanks in advance for advice
Can you switch between the data screens during an activity? Lets say I'm cycling, and I can see the first screen. Can I switch to the heart rate page? Which button do i press?
Can I use this to track when I go kayaking too? Would I use the ‘Cardio’ setting for this?
Shame this guy doesn’t reply to any of his loyal viewers. Laziness at its finest.
So I’ve been getting into running and want a tool to assist me. After review I’ve decided to go with Garmin but I’m still not sure which watch to get. I am deciding between the vivosport, forerunner 45 and the vivo active 3. I want something sleek and to basically see my pace , distance and time.
Hello, I'm a basically runner But I would like to have a watch with future potential.
My doubt is Fr45 or Vivoactive 3?
Why would say isn't made for marathon runners? I want the lightest watch I can possibly get. The 45S is only 4g heavier than 28g Timex Ironman Triathlon, but has GPS! I wish it had much longer battery life though, like 30+ days or something, but oh well, it would heavier then too.
Better Fr 45 or Vivoactive 3 for basic runner?
Is the case metal
I cracked up at that life alert
