So this lens is WORSE than the 18-55 but people are reporting something different... Manufacturers really sells bad copies. Impossible to know what is the optical quality you buy !

Such a versatile lens! Usually @80 mm its for portrait so centre sharpness is more important than in the corners
So it could be considered a good 23/50 with decent/softer extra reaches to 16 and 80.
Versatility, weather resistance, aperture ring... overall I think I'd prefer it to the 18/55, but anyway very honest and complete review. Instantly subscribed to the channel.

Oh dear, I nearly pulled the trigger on the X-T4 + 16-80 kit, but now I'm having second thoughts. My intended main use is travel and landscape photo- and videography, for which this lens seemed a perfect allrounder. What initially drew me to this lens over the 18-55 was my understanding of it being parfocal, its extended range and weather resistance. Out of these three advantages, only the last still seems to be standing: weather resistance; the lens clearly isn't truly parfocal and the lens is rather un-sharp in its extended range. But even then, I don't understand to which extend so-called weather resistance is effective, i.e. whether it contributes significantly to improving body and lens longevity when exposing them to humid environments. If it's not that much of a game changer, I might opt for the X-T4 + 18-55 kit after all, for its lower price point, even lower weight, higher speed on the wide end and apparent higher sharpness. Then, extend my range with an additional wide and tele lens in the future.
That long-distance focusing issue made it look defective. If that is standard then I'd never pay that price for this lens.

I was considering picking up the X-T4 coupled with this lens. Your review just made me decide against it. The X-T4 is often compared with full-frame cameras, but this lens is a disgrace compared with the Canon or Sony 24-105mm f/4. Thanks for the great review!

1:35 -- That was unfortunate that you had a problem with this lens back in 2019 because it is absolutely not the case with my lens, at all. It's really smooth and precise. Plus, the problem when we zoom in and zoom out was fixed a couple of weeks later, so, please, don't be so rude with Fujifilm who listens to their community a lot, and certainly more than other companies today.
Thanks for testing. I could't resist and ordered the 16-80 with the intention of replacing my 18-55. Now i compared week for week and can't decide to sell my good 18-55 copy or the 16-80 lol.

Reason it’s slow in focusing in low light is due to your camera model XT20, the newer XT4 and Xpro 3 focus a lot better faster in low at -6ev
Question , why would you want the IS off ? What benwfit is there to that over having it on 😕
Jordan should have mentioned that stopping down to f/4 is actually desirable in video for greater DoF, so the small aperture actually becomes less of an issue compared to shooting stills
So the iris 4 is constant through 16 to 80?
Hadn’t noticed the softness in edge and would a non photographic eye when printed? I purchased this over the other kit lens for that extra added reach. I’m happy with it and not sure if I would notice the difference. When purchased with Fuji body I saved $400!
Guys, no comments about the focus flickring while zooming on video mode? I was a bit desapoited with that aspect and you guys didnt even show that on the video part of the review

That ghosting at 80 mm is incredible heavy.
I have the samyang 12mm f2, the 55-100mm f3.5-4.8, and the 18-55mm f2.8-4. I was thinking about selling the 18-55 for this one, what do you think? I think I would like the extra mm, but the softness is something I don't want to because I'll use this when travelling and it is mostly point and shoot in aperture mode

I have yet to be distracted by onions rings unless they’re cold and soggy. I had to look closely after having my attention drawn and didn’t notice much of anything. I’m not a zoom kinda guy. I’m a one-camera-one-lens guy who only owns 4 cameras and 7 primes. I got the 16-80mm lens with my T4 because it’s a deal as a package and it will make my T3 more versatile and less likely to collect dust now that I have IBIS on another body. I know it’s an inanimate object but we’ve become friends and I wasn’t comfortable selling the T3 because I got a new body. That’s what my Ex did and I remember it didn’t feel good. Too many Walt Disney movies as a kid. Trash talk my Mini Cooper and you’re in deep shit.
I’ve read the IS goes off automatically when it senses no movement as on a tripod or your draw for that matter. But by now I’m sure you’ve heard this a dozen times.
Did this lens become sharper with the firmware updates or are the corners still very soft?

I have this set, but this lens in video handheld with ois is very very bad in moves pan tilt, very jerky,.
Too expensive for just “adequate” and “just ok”
I'm really loving your reviews. I got this lens with the xt-4 and after the firmware update the lens is pretty nice. I do think that for the price, the 18-55 is probably better (I don't have it tho). But I'm happy with it for home videos and pictures.
I also have the 50-140mm and really love it. I like to do landscape and outdoor photo/video with it. I wish there were more lenses like it on the Fuji line up in terms of auto focus and sharpness.

At minute 5 you are showing the autofocus speed. The F stop shows as 2.8 ? This appears to be a different lens than you are reviewing.

How's the autofocus compared to the 18-55mm kit lens? I heard LM lenses are better for video autofocus. I'm currently using Canon but want to switch over to Fuji and I'm not sure which kit lens to get.
This is one of the kit lens that is bundled with the xs10 body. Giant shadow in any shots with the onboard flash :(

Glad to find your channel. I've always shot Canon but just started using an Xt-4 as well. Excited to see all your insights on the Fuji's and their lenses.
Like most Fuji zoom lenses, it is mediocre around the edges, the 18-55, the 18-135 and this 16-80, not even adding the qualities of the three come to anything decent ... Not even if I was crazy, I would buy one of these lenses.

Great review, Andrew! Does the 16-55 keep focus better when zooming during video? I'm deciding between the 16-80 and the 16-55. My one concern with the 16-55 is the weight. You said the 16-80 wasn't much heavier than the 18-55, so that helps me decide. Looks like you had a great time in Hawaii.
