Hands-on Review of the Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f4 OIS WR
Fujifilm 10-24mm F4 OIS Review | An Ultra Wide For Enthusiasts
Best Fujifilm Lens for Landscapes - 10-24mm Long Term Review
Review & Testing Fuji XF10-24mm f4 R OIS - in 4k
Lack of WR was the major downside of this lens for serious ladscape adventures. Fuji 10-24 was already one of the most popular lens, now with the weather sealing it will sell like hotcakes :D
Mine will be delivered the day after eager !
thanks for sharing, Is the AF improved?. I found the original one a bit hit and miss especially low light
I 've had the 1st gen version for about 5 years & it's been around the world many times. Had to have it serviced once as some dust specs had accumulated - all to be expected with a lot of use. A well worn but not abused lens that has proven itself but for me the upgrade to the new version is worth it to gain the weather sealing as I've missed some shots in the past because of very bad weather that I wouldn't take a non-WR lens into.
Thanks for the video. I would like to see a comparaison against the Venus Optics Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D Lens.
The new variant addressed the 2 issues I had with V1 (that I sold) WR and hard stop aperture ring. Bought the V2 as soon as I could.
So no real image quality difference compared to the previous lens? Would have liked to see the purple flare/dot issue tested as at 10mm mine shows that in strong light. Also a tendency to sometimes have slightly blurry areas in the photo. Think IOS or something. Andy mumford also showed this. Not dealbreaker but still. If these are not present in the nee version than yes I would upgrade and even sell the 8-16 as it is huge in my bag, but an epic lens still.
Great Video!
What's the song at the beginning, really like it! :)
Might be worth the upgrade to join the ‘bad ass’ club!
Nice review as always.where's evelyn though, she's been missing from the last few vids?
Fuji is not the only camera that uses filters. Olympus cameras have implemented filters since the more than 8 years ago. Some of them are usable some of them are not, but they also do it.
Again a great review, thanks :)
Nice Review.thanks for the tips
Thanks for the excellent review Dave! Been wondering what's new with the 10-24 mm F4 mark II. Hope its release makes the used mark I be even more affordable. BTW, been a while since the last time I see Evelyn? Where's she?
I have purchased about $20,000 worth of gear over the past 5 years from the Camera store and I will continue to do so in the future. Love the service and the people. I actually met you the last time Dave when I got a Peak Design Tripod. Cheers from the North.
5:42 now that's a user experience statement I haven't really heard in other camera/lens reviews but I agree. The lens settings are on the lens and the camera settings are on the camera. Fujifilm got that absolute right. Why don't other manufacturers get that right?
Great pictures Dev
One of my favorite viewers great job great pictures to keep up the good work PS I’m missing your female partner you guys are an excellent team the best in the business
I love the review, but I hate this distorted off key piano sound in the music.
If you got the 10-24mm F4 what would you shoot? Purchase the Fujifilm 10-24MM OIS today: par constuction. I'll pass on it and avoid ultimate problems with the lens.
Is there any sound when using this len to take video as some reports there is sound for AF
The f4 is really my only reservation
Why don't you upload your videos in 4K for better analysis by your viewers?
No one gonna mention the guy flipping the bird at 3.47?
Sorry, but this isn’t a review, it’s a comparison and the main event almost all the video is other lens. Not being whether sealed doesn’t mean it’s useless.
Great video. Haha but once I started noticing how many times you passed the camera back and forth from one hand to another when you talk, I couldn’t concentrate on what you were saying. Must have been over 30+ passes
Hello. Is it compatible for Fujifilm XT30?
Night light trail possible?
like the way Fuji builds a seemingly big lens but somehow feels light, my 35 f1.4 is like that- it's awesome
nice video, if you're after the 8 mm ( 16 mm - full frame equivalent), and on a budget, try the Samyang 12 mm ( roughly equivalent {18 mm in full frame}), BUT this is a 1.4 aperture lens, so you get the nice creamy bokeh ; second option: try Fuji films' own 14 mm or 16 mm lineup, no faults either, and has a 1.4 option, for those Bokeh enthusiasts. ONE tip, if you realy want/ crave for the background separation try the 60 mm macro from Fuji film, great affect, as it has a d.o.f. effect like a view camera's movements ( dead on in the focused area, and craft paper like bokeh everywhere else)-wow
Is it good for vdo?
How does this lens track focus on the xt3 for video? Face/eye detect for video on xt3?
Actually 15-36 :-) The T stop is actually brighter on the 10-2' than the 8-16.
Will this be ok to use on an XT20? (Will it be ok for the mount ?)
My 10-24 has been out in all sorts of weather, never had a problem!
I wish they update this lens, making it weather sealed
I wish they would release a mk2 with a proper aperture ring and weather sealing, that 8-16 is just not practical.
nice vids man : ) hope to go back to HK again someday (maybe I mentioned that before? I forgot)
plz tell us abt your setup for landscape photography would love to know
Great review. Got an XT-30 and love landscape. Just purchased this lens for £584 on a Christmas offer. Can’t wait to get my hands on it
Just found your channel and subscribed! I'm considering getting the 10-24 lens with the X-S10. I'm a Sony shooter and enjoy my A7R4+12-24 F2.8, but now that it is winter (here in California), I want to play around with Fuji cameras, specifically the B&W film simulations. Your pictures are really mindblowing! Thank you again for the video review, will check out all your other videos.
Great info, Andy! Question: you mentioned using 100mm filters to avoid vignette. You meant the square Lee system, right? You also mentioned circular filters. Do you use 72mm for those or bigger ones with a step up ring? Do they also vignette or was your vignetting comment only regarding the Lee and Manfrottos?
Incredible review, thanks! Do you think the MKII is worth the price difference? (there is a good price cut for the first version now that the second is out). Thank you!
Curious if you ever use the lens hood with it? PS I bought this as my main lens to
Love your photos and videos, I watch them again and again and learn a lot. Fuji will have a new 10-24mm with WR to replace this model I presume. Would love to see a comparison video if you are also considering upgrading your lens
Regarding resistance to inclement weather, would you say the same about your 55-200?
At 18.35 what is the cause of the arcs in the sky? I've a pano and I have the same arcs, no idea what caused it.
I was looking to buy an used XT-2 and use a Tokina 12-24 I have here around, and bumped with your video, really nice! Greetings from Lisbon!
I use panoramic mode with 18 or 35 :-)
Do you think the new WR version is worth the extra cost? You can pick these lenses up for around £500-£550 now V £899 for the new weatherised version.
Hi Andy, love your videos. I'm pretty sure I'm about to purchase a X-T2 shortly as my first step up to a real camera. Your videos are one of the reasons for that decision. Question: I've looked at this 10 - 24 lens and it's pretty expensive. Not sure if I can swing it. Is there one you can recommend that's a bit more affordable?
I'm just interesting in what the landscape photographers living from? They just journeying there and back. Because I'm sure they can not sell their pictures.
Which filters would you recommend for a beginner?
Hi Andi, should I wait a few weeks and buy the updated Fuji XF 10/24 mm lens? I'd like to pair it with my XT30. Thank you in advance.
Isn't it odd to add OIS to a wide angle lens like this? I know it is to compensate for the not very open f4, but as it is used a lot for landscape, where you disable it, doesn't seem very usefull.
Loved this review Andy, bout to head to Death Valley and the note on 'if you like to have something in the foreground to feel like you could step in' connected to me right away. Thanks!
I have the same problem, Nikon D810 + Nikkor 14-24 2.8 this is a great review of a great fuji gear . Awesome work Andy, Thanks for sharing this amazing content.Regards from Chile.
Having just bought an XT-3, this is high on my list, along with a Samyang 12 f2 for astro/low light. I wouldn’t worry about weather sealing too much, it’s nice to have but well built kit like this should be fine. I don’t think a lot of “sealed” stuff is actually much different, Olympus stuff tends to be the exception (I think they’ve actually started putting IP ratings on their kit now).
You showed a tripod fluid head at 7:57 that looked as if it had a small riser type thing for the camera plate to attach the camera to. What is that? I need that too. Thank you for any info.
It's only partly metal !
Can we use this lens with canon 80d?
Cool lense bit 4.0 is not good enough
16/1.4 lets in 8x more light. Get both:-).
6:16 Same issue with the 18 to 55mm f 2.8 - 4 kit lens when zooming in. Fuji gear is a game changer. it's art in yours hands.amazing!
I bought this lens with an xt3 brand new on the 18th of October 2019. haven't updated the firmware on the body and the lens yet. I recorded a video and the flickering is there when zooming in and out and it keeps flickering the whole video. Once, I tried it again, there were only flickering when zooming in and out. Not sure what happened there, but it was like a light bulb that is dying out. If you want to see how it looks, let me know! I can upload it, so you all can see.
For real estate how does this compare to the Rokinon 12mm?
Can use it for vdo too?
How does this lens track focus on the xt3 for video? Face/eye detect for video on xt3?
Those were some great sample images!
Can you still have a blurred background on a sunny day outside @24mm?
Excellent review man you did a great job and went into a lot of detail. Thank you
It's a same all the glass you're paying for, that you lose to crop factor. Nice review as always!
This is the only video I've found so far that even mentions the zoom flicker problem, but it seems to be something that affects a lot if not all Fujifilm zooms. I have the 18-55 f2.8-4 zoom, and on that lens there is no flicker when wide-open. Even the aperture change from 2.8 to 4 is smooth. But the flicker shows up at every aperture once you start stopping down. I did find one unusual work around though: if you switch to auto aperture, let it adjust according to your scene, then press the AE-L button, it effectively locks the aperture in place and eliminates the zoom flicker. Not an ideal solution but at the very least that seems to indicate that Fujifilm should be able to fix this via firmware update. It's just a matter of the lens locking the aperture in place when set manually.
There are more lenses than you think that does that kind of flickering. That doesn’t happen with Cine zoom lenses or even with the sigma 18-35mm. That happens with my 12-60mm from Panasonic even at f/5.6 from 12 to 60 you’ll notice the flickering. Sucks
Hi! Got the X-H1 with the 10-24mm. What are your experiences with focus modes for video? AF-C is quite unusable, permanent focus hunting.
I am having an issue with this lens (XF10-24mm) on my X-T3. I have tried different settings, shutter speeds, apertures etc but 8 out of 10 of my photos have very low quality when I zoom in 1:1 on Lightroom. There is no sharpness whatsoever from corner to corner, they are extremely pixelated. Is there anyone having the same problem?
Excellent lens!
Aperture flicker on zoom lenses is a Fuji thing. I notice that the camera will read different exposure levels when you zoom for a brief moment. For example, zooming the 18-55 with aperture set at f4 and exposure at 0 on a white wall it will read something like +0.3, +0.1, and other values, while zooming in. Those seem to coincide with the focal length markers on the lens (23mm, 35mm, 55mm). Maybe the camera is trying to do something when reaching each focal length, some kind of cue point (possibly to apply corrections). I wished we had some explanation from Fuji, and i would also like to know if they plan on fixing this through firmware.
