I agree about most of the BG line being Caca. I've been using this fire starter for a few years now and it throws a glob of molten sparks into your tinder like a misch-metal rod. The only other product that is worth the cost in the BG line is the sliding saw.
I have it. All I can say is everyone should have one. It's easy to use and Durable.

I love this! Wasn't blown away originally due to the large size but eventually that's why I liked it as it was less fiddly.

I agree, his knives are just re-labelled low end junk(not real survival knives). But his fire starters ARE an exception, they are a quality feels very sturdy and reliablenice grip as well. It's funny, because for the SAME price as the BG knife(china).you can buy the gerber Prodigy, or LMF series(USA made), and yet they chose to go the China sad.

he Allweather firestarter is much better than the Gerber/Bear Grylls. The cotton ball is extremely easy to light with anything. This fire starter is much more difficult when simply attempting to light natural tender like Cedar or Pine bark peel. Take a long look at the Allweather fire starter for the best product available today.

Yeah mine I bought at walmart a few weeks ago has a tinder compartment in back of the rod piece under the black cap but I totally agree with you it's the only bear grylls gerber product that is worth buying I might try out the hand crank torch it looks like it might be good as well look it up if you haven't heard about it looks pretty cool

Hmmm. I swore I'd never buy another Gerber product. I'm not sure this is an exception. I am stoked it works for you and hope you let the gift giver know that you later really appreciated it :) but $30 ? Not for me. I haven't had any issues with the $2 chinese rods I've throw out enough sparks to light cotton etc. Is there a temperature difference between a cheap rod, gerber or swedish firesteel? I don't know but the price difference is huge. Might have to go and do more research. Thanks for the vid.
