Can you do opposite? Can you do straight fork into tapered frame?
Great video man! I have an older Giant STP3 I've been wanting to upgrade the forks on and use as a dirt jumper and this might just do the trick!
will it work for a 2018 Diamondback hook
I need to do this to my trek marlin backup bike. It has an absolute garbage suntour fork and I'm used to riding a buttery fox float on my real bike.
sweeeettt
Annoying background music... BYE!
Hello bud I'm looking at doing this to my ns suburban due to straight steerer forks being harder to come buy, which model headset did you use as there seems to be lots of options for the 40 series
never even considered this option for my steel dirt jumper, thanks for the ideas🙌🏼
How did this setup hold up after some abuse? Didn't need to re-adjust the headset too much? Thanks.
oh, you built "hot rods"...kinda like saying I worked on space ships if you were at nasa...
Finaly.....i've had the same problem in 2019 but at that time there was no chance to fix that problem Keep on doing.....great channel nice👍🏻😁😎🚲 content
Dang Bro. You are a super handy bike mechanic. So good!!
How are the Koozer hubs holding up?
This looks like a simple solution, but will only work on certain bikes. With so many “standards” of headtubes, headsets and fork steerers this looks it could be a real wild goose chase. Not to mention, not all frames are made with suspension compensated geometry, I suspect most tapered steer tubes wether for for fat bikes or mountain bikes, will not be a good fit geometry wise even if you can make the bearings work if it’s an older bike or early fat bike . I recommend planning it out very carefully before ordering parts and cutting anything. This works on oversized headtubes that are probably aluminum. Headset needs to be semi-integrated. Regular pressed in cup headset will not work., full integrated will not work either, though it might if the headtubes is bored out. Good video none the less.
is there any way to install tapered fork on 42mm headtube: Spank Tweet Tweet frame or similar....
Is that a straight 1 1/8 headtube? Or straight 1.5?
Good video, i have the same problem. What is the inner diameter of the headstock? I need something like a bush on the bottomside which is 48 mm and can fit a 40 mm tappered fork, the top side of the fork is 28.6 mm
the head tube is straight but it is the width of the tapered part of the fork on bottom and on top. this is the only reason why it works. On older bikes the head tubes are alot narrower. the tapered bottom of fork will not fit. I wish it did, I am trying to go to boost but cant because of older narrower head set. Your bicycle’s headtube must have an inside diameter of 44mm or larger in order to use any tapered steer fork. Traditional 1 1/8 in headtubes, or 34mm inside diameter headtubes, cannot accept a tapered steering column fork, therefore we do not make an adapter that will allow you to use a tapered steering column on a traditional 1 1/8 in headtube.
I wish you’re my neighbor! I want to upgrade my fork to rock shox or fox.
Great video as always. Also that stem is sooo long :))
Thank you sir
My bike's now fixed, problem gone, THANK YOU SIR !
This was very helpful thank you
Very helpful. That was the exact issue with mine
Park tools
Nice video men
Excellent. Exactly what I needed to know. Everything tight. Feeling much more secure now. Had to tighten top spacer. (I didn't even know there "IS" an adjustment there.) 😁👍 WOO WOO!!
Today i have done wrong, i tighten the stem first and tighten the upper one at the last, so i'm riding today and there is small play on the steering 🤦.. after watching this i think i solved the problem now. I hope it will not have severe effect 😭
Thank you so much very good video
Calvin, you’re the reason why I enjoy cycling
01:30 I feel nothing.
Awesome. Saved my ride of tomorrow. Cheers
Thank you, sir!
Just raised the handlebar on my bicycle using spacers. Calvin, your explanation helped me to adjust the headset as it was retelling. Thank you.
always saves the day. Thank you sooo much.
Thanks for your help my bike is fixed
Thanks you saved my new bike
Bruuhh how tall is this guy????
63 year old, super great explanation ! Stems sure are different from the 60s..... ;-) Diagnostic techniques were spot-on! Great efficiency in communicating (even if FB don't like it...)
Does your headset need adjusting? Follow Jon's guide and let us know how it goes. 👇
great vdo. I thought my headset was gone and needed a new one. But after watching this VDO I found that I could fix it by loosening the right bolts and retightening in the described order. Problem solved. Many many thanks.
Is it okay to put that spacer with a hollow steerer? I mean it doesn’t sit on a steerer tube? I have this issue now. Thanks!
LOL! minefield changing bearings. Good video thanks.
What happened to Jon? I don’t see him in the newer videos
Y does gravel cycle headset has big ring size then above
If there is ANY kind of movement, even subtle, in the front end when holding the front brake, it needs to be tightened? Should the spacers be able to turn when tightened properly?
Don't forget to saw about 4 inches off the seat post if you're going to attempt to get on this bike.
Hi guys, is there a bearing race inside carbon frame head tube to mate with the lower bearing? Or, the lower bearing only mates with the carbon headtube?? Thanks
Groovy baby
FINALLY. I've just rebuilt my bike for the first time and got stuck on the headset of all things. I was tightening the pre-load bolt BEFORE the stem bolts and it locked up the steering. Almost drove me mad. Kept taking it apart and reassmebling with no change until I followed your instructions. Thank you for this video, I was ready to throw my bike out the window.
I just got a new headset top cap (deity) and was wondering if water can get in the steer tube etc.. and if so is that bad/ what can I do to prevent that
hello from the philippines. my name is randy and i have a question for you. i am building a road bike. my frame is the 2010/2020 specialized allez sprint disc. where can i buy, or what headset can you recommend for me? i have no clue on what to buy. i am hoping you will be able to see this question and reply as soon as you can. thank you again.
Mine is too loose not even gripping the front wheel. I am so frustrated because the bike was not cheap.
Yes, I took it to my local bike shop. They charged me a fair bit, replaced both bearings and two weeks later, voila! I got movement and an annoying ticking sound to boot.
Thank you so much help me a lot......
Question for anyone who knows. If my spacers are loose enough to be able to turn them around easily, is my headset too loose or is it normal and i'm overthinking?
GREAT VID !
Super helpful. Thanks!
I find when I tighten the side bolts, the head set still goes stiff! I put in a spacer too! I even adjusted my own headset but found my neck gets sore! Kidding!
