Nice useful video. I have just replaced my MTB 3x7 Shimano type freehub body (which had 3 pawls and one of them failed because the freehub body cracked where it sits) with a new similar 3x7 freehub body, but with 6 pawls. I was not sure that it would work but it went in perfectly and engages like a dream. I love how today's modern promotional media has managed to convince the people that going from 21 speeds to 18, 11 or 10 speeds is actually an 'upgrade'. LOL thank you but no thank you. I'll stick to my wider 21 gear range and will not downgrade to less gears.
For my application, lots of miles on a daily basis, relatively mild terrain, this would be totally pointless.
How about hubs with sealed cartridge bearings sir?
Question, I am getting a Giant Talon 4 and plan to upgrade the drivetrain to Deore 1 X 12 speed, so I need need to change the freehub body and axle right? how about the bottom bracket ? It has a cartridge BB.. thanks
I changed full hub that has sealed bearings, its probably much better to change the whole hub
The freehub is removed from the left side . What is a freehub used for ? My bike doesn't have one .
FH-RM40-8 is available for this type of Shimano freehub...

Do you have to replace the axle with the longer one??? Also will you get a new mounting bolt with a new hub??
Will the old fastening bolt work with the new hub body? I should adjust the cone on the drive side in order to compensate for the larger hub correct?

Nice but what sort of lubricant do you put in there ? Regular hub grease or oil or something else ? The problem is you want grease for the bearings but you want oil for the pawls to keep clicking freely.
I didn't know about the rubber "monkey wrench" tool, could come in handy when you need to remove the body of a freehub that's not laced to a wheel, so you can have some leverage.

I have two freehub one is joytech and other one is from quando, I tried to remove the freehub body using a 12mm hex key and still I cant remove it. Does some freehub body is made to be fix non removable?

Thought i had to buy a new freewheel hub which is some kind of no name OEM type on my bike. I couldn't find adequate type so far. .But after following your instructions it clicks 'n clicks,...again. Saved me time and money. Now i' am going to overhaul old cassette whith integrated free hub i 've got still on stock.. Thanks again . Great job!

You can get the tools rather inexpensive via aliexpress :) Did not even need a blindhole puller on my type of freehub. With all the tips and this video is was a easy job, I needed just 20 1/8" new balls :) Thanks a lot for the vid. Spared me another 15 euro, I hope it will last years now if I do this maintenance every year.

I've always had freewheels on all my bikes since the beginning of Time... A buddy brought me a cassette/freehub wheel that spins both directions... I had to consult the Great Googler, and I was sent here to attend your "class"... I've got them straight in my brain matter now... Thank You...
I am wondering why Shimano says it a non serviceable part? I guess the grease does last a very long time. I think if water gets past the seals that's is when damage starts to accur to bearing races. This problem happens to Durace 7700 bottom bracket. If you ride in the rain, you must dissemble clean and regrease after the ride.
