SGs are my favorite and most played guitars, they're so comfortable to play, at least for me personally. They're just great rock machines and don't set you back as much as a Les Paul (which I still love btw). People complain about neck dive on SGs, and it's true to certain degree, but it's also partly user error in a lot of cases. For example, it's surprising how many people don't know how to wear the strap on an SG (yes, there is a way): try putting a half turn in the strap so it falls straight down the shoulder to the back pin. the strap will wear straight due to the pins, instead of twisted, if that makes sense. It actually helps stop the guitar from rolling down the shoulder a lot. People also tend to wear them around their knees which doesn't help, a short strap will almost completely eliminate neck dive in some cases. People also wrap up sinkers in the cavity as counter weights if your really struggling.

I bought this guitar for Christmas. Got the 1966 model. I can’t put it down. I have a LP, Strat, Tele, and this. My son had a black one. I sold it when he stopped playing. I regretted it immediately. For some reason the SG just feels and looks like the “baddest” of all guitars. Just my opinion.

I love love love the look of SG's, but the neck-dive is a deal breaker for me. lt's completely unacceptable, IMO, that a company charging hundreds, or even thousands, for a guitar cannot remedy this obvious annoyance to so many players.

I have an older model. It looks great, feels great but has 0 sustain and the tone is not good.

Great review mate but there are some delay and reverb on your distorted sound. In my opinion delay and reverb its great but for clean tones, on distorted i little its okey

These are great guitars and even a greater choice for the Lefty's. As far as guitar for the money goes anyway. I honestly hate the headstock so much I cut it to just be straight across the top. Looks better I think. And its definitely a conversation starter

Just bought the Epiphone SG Pro in cherry yesterday. I've had the cherry and black versions of the standard G400 and they were great but the SG Pro sounds amazing and the neck binding really classes it up. Coil tapping is another big reason i bought this guitar since i also like that clean stratocaster sound which you can get on this. Playing it through my Boss Katana Artist MK2 is just pure awesomeness

Can I play metal and blues on this guitar?
Epiphone hit the ball out of the park with this guitar! They have now changed the model to an arguably inferior design, to satisfy those that want a 'Gibson style' (open book) headstock. The model here has Alnico Classic pickups (relatively lively Alnico 5) with coil split, whereas the new models have Probuckers (relatively warmer Alnico 2) with no coil split. I have both types of PuPs (on different guitars) and whilst I like the warmth of the Probuckers, when it comes to the bite and response expected from an SG, the Alnico Classics (A5) work well. The fact that the newer models have a different shape of headstock, Graphtech nut, CTS pots and binding on the neck does nothing to persuade me to buy it.
So essentially it’s like an SG fucked the pickups on a strat

I think that the tunners are sapose to be Wilkerson’s classic tuners you may want to get a set of Gibson SG classic tuners and see if they’ve fit other than that it’s a great working guitar
traded an older epi in for one of these last week. :) worth it as something of a Christmas trade. the pickups sound vibrant and the splitting is fun.

I've just bought the Pro deluxe one today. I tested it against a £1000 Gibson sg and they sounded the same!
Returned one to Amazon. Total disappointment. Couldn't lose the buzz on 2nd fret and pickups sound horrible. This vid has only confirmed my decision.
I tested it new in a shop. It's a really beautiful guitar, and good sounding machine. Price affordable. BUT, the frets edges were really sharp, and some defect in selector switch so that I didn't buy. There was a white one with perfect fret edges. So better test it prior to buy, because quality control not so consistent. Otherwise good guitar. I found a used Gibson SG Standard 2012 black, twice the price of the Epihone, no split coil, but real good feeling in hand.
