What do you think would be a better guitar overall? The Yamaha F335 Acoustic or Epiphone Dr-100? They're both around the same price point, but im wondering which would be better?

Bought one of these 2nd hand and let me tell you...worst acoustic I've ever played. I mean you can't expect much at this price, but it was just awful. Tone wise, flat and boxy as most all laminate guitars are, but I expected that. This thing would not stay in tune for any length of time, and intonation is sour. Tried to adjust the action, but it wouldn't cooperate. These things (other than tone) can be fixed, but it's just not worth the parts and effort at this price range. If it must be a sub $200 laminate guitar, I'd go with Yamaha. Their quality is at least better and more consistent from one to the next.
I own this guitar. Overall it is pretty decent for the price. I had to lower the action on it and change the strings for sure. The issue I do have with it is notice fret buzz (and maybe even fret misplacement) around frets 10-11 on the high E string.
You forgot to mention about the action and the fret buzz, maybe my dr100 was a bad one outta box but I had to adjust the action with some shims to get it to play nice

Hello from BC Canada! Great review man, I've been teaching myself a bit of guitar for the last couple of years to combat my arthritis riddled fingers, having work my hands hard generally, specifically playing congas for over 45 years, bought and started with a beautiful (and cheap) old classical one from Japan in the '70's, but during a prolonged trip elsewhere,( I was getting along with it but my limited reach and flexibility made it a bit of a chore) I purchased a starter Yamaha, which I immediately re-strung, and continued to build my callus (and what skills I have) up. It still sounds pretty sweet for a cheapie. This was a couple of years ago btw. Back a while, my dear daughter wanted to play guitar, so the family bought her a DR100 wr about 8 years ago, it was played for about 3 days and ended up in a closet, the new strings I had put on not even broken in yet, off to a closet it went... until... it came back to me as a 'permanent' lone, and man, I tell you, I am so happy! It is now on its second set of medium silicon/bronzes, and seriously? it sounds beautiful. The action isn't bad though, it could probably use a set-up, the sustain and tones are wonderful as-is, the build is pretty amazing for something under 200$CAD and, it appears near bullet-proof. Would I buy one for myself? In a heartbeat, though I'd probably look for an older model as I have heard from many on YT and others that the newer ones do not have quite the same build quality. For now, I have this diamond-in-the-rough to play on, its rich and full sound inspire me. Cheers to all, stay safe and smart, and healthy... play moar!

I semi 'inherited' my daughter's DR-100 wr, its probably 7years old now, so that it could get broken in and some lovin', and I am amazed how nice it sounds. Build quality is very good for the price, sound is pretty amazing, I'm running medium bronzes on it. Stays in tune, is easy on the hands and eyes, built like a tank. Would I buy one for myself? In a heartbeat, but I may not have to since the kid is into uke now :P PS~ I am just a 'beginner' git player (began 3 some-odd years ago) for finger therapy, but have been playing music with my friends and bands since the 70's. I bought a cheap Yamaha a couple of years ago, I thought it sounded (and still sounds) quite nice, but I just love the playability and feel of this Epiphone model, and experienced buddies who do play guitar, are impressed by its over-all quality. Good strings are a must, I opted for medium bronze silicon type, they sing!

This model does not need a pickup. When equipped with the right strings can easily keep up with amps and a drummer no problem. This guitar is loud. Hands down my favorite acoustic I have ever owned and I have played many I have also loved but this guitar has a solid standing on it's own. John Pearse Bluegrass strings and play away!
I just swapped the factory strings on my new DR100 for 10 gauge Elixir Polyweb and it sounds 100% better.
