Sound cards are a waste of money unless you're a gamer. Then they are great. Anyone remember the IRQ conflicts with onboard sound and nic cards? That was a bummer. But yes, a sound card is recommended as it can effect the framerate. Also, in order to receive true 5.1 most mobo sound output jacks are becoming limited to left and right. My headphones have six plugs (Triton360).

My cousin gave me his old alienware which had one of these and when I built my new pc this came in handy when my motherboard audio quit, the sound quality has blown me away for its age and the abuse it survived. I bought a pair of audio technica headphones and I was even more impressed.

Unfortionately yes yes motherboard audio sucks. Well Dell audio anyways. Saddly this is even true with my new XPS. They add echo effects and things. The panning isn't good. The best mother board I've heard resently would have to be what ever the hell is in the MSI Trident. Nice and clear nice and wide without loosing the middle and good highs and things like that. So yeah they're right.

And they can kiss my ass. My motherboard came with a sound blaster chip, the software is god-awful. I mean abysmal. Horrible, unusable. So bad I uninstalled the drivers, yet cannot - to the best of my knowledge install RealTek. I will absolutely never purchase any Creative product, or any product that would force me to use their software. UI is among the worst I've seen. I couldn't even disable mic monitoring. My motherboard came out in 2016, software has not been updated since early 2017, but it looks like it was developed in the early 2000's. Just indescribably awful in every sense of the word.

Creative AE 5 is creatives worst sound card in recent years in terms of Music quality they really have did a downgrade especially for features coming from the titanium series

I just got the AE-5 from Amazon today. It goes back tomorrow. First, when switching between headphones and speakers in the SB software, I also have to make the switch in Windows 10. Second, and the biggest letdown, the cool sound effects settings do not work when using the 5.1 S/PDIF connection. This kills the reason I bought the card. I don't care for using headphones for long periods of time.
I have a creative sound card and I can tell you creative drivers sucks - they crash all the time.
Everyone is complaining and forget one thing, You buy a sound card for what it does thats high end audio not RGB. So even though I bought one of these it wont be used for RGB and the lights will never be turned on it is purely only for better audio for broadcasting gaming and so on. One thing Creative does well is sound and this is why my dad a technician and me since i was little been using Creative. Creative for audio and Hauppauge for capturing video nothing more nothing less.

It is a massive pain in the ass, it will not take 5.1, it will not split front and rear inputs, the sound blaster connect software is the biggest piece of dump I've ever used.
Tell them to make one cheap because the onboard is free
Pain in the arse card, you can't put it anywhere near a Gpu unless you like the buzzing sound it creates through your speakers when gaming under load.
Audigy 2ZS was one of the best soundcards Creative ever did right.

Astro overhypes there mixamp and suckers people buying it when they can get a Soundblaster USB card, which has way way better audio quality and its 50 dollars more than Astros mixamp, if you get the G6, while theres the 99 dollar one on amazon from 2 years ago.
I wish it had more RGB I could really use the fps boost in games.
