Nearly two years owning an 8+ and I finally picked up the 12W adapter the other day. huge game changer didn’t wanna spend the additional $20-ish on the usbc-to-lightning cable for just slightly faster charging with one of the other adapters.

Really cool options! I have a T-Magsafe 1 for the 15" Macbook Pro [Mid-2009] giving issues with charging [No surprises there!] So what could you suggest I should go for as Magsafe 2 or any converter to Magsafe 2 is not useful! Any USB-C to Magsafe 1 or good alternate Magsafe 1 adapters? Thank You.

We have a sitation at work where management removed all the power points and replaced them with USB C monitor/charging docks. The problem is the macs havent been upgraded to USB-C/thunderbolt ones so this is a *major* problem for us.

Hi Dave. I just read yesterday that the information in System Report is not reliable, especially with (dodgy) third-party cables. The information you see comes from an ID number reported via the one-wire protocol on the centre pin of the magsafe connector. It comes from a tiny circuit board inside the connector on the cable itself. This info is hard-wired into the board and it does NOT report live info about the PSU. Dodgy vendors could take advantage of that by reporting 85W power on a 40W brick, which I believe would be a fire hazard. I'm about to go on location and I am wondering how I might charge this laptop using hefty battery pack I have? It has USB outputs. Any ideas?

Dave, that Mac only supports 60W. It will charge with a 85W, but not faster or anything. It will also not damage your battery/notebook.
