I removed the stock heatsink from my brother's pc to replace the thermal paste, but it would not screw back on because the backplate had moved and it is literally impossible to remove the rear panel of the case ( its some old weird steel case ) So this cooler does not require backplate right? It is impossible to install a cooler with backplate on his PC.
I am rebuilding an old Pentium 4 661 for retro gaming and software but my tests with it have been telling me that I most likely need to have the cooler replaced as the system locks up when the temperature reaches around 60°C and monitoring software as well as the BIOS itself often shows the RPM of the cooler varying greatly from top speed to absolutely 0 RPM, even though the fan itself doesn't visually change speeds, at all, so my guess is that the cooler is defective. So my question is: Would the Gammaxx 200T would be a good choice to replace that cooler for my Pentium 4 661? It sure does seem to deliver a pretty good performance!

Its better to fix the fan vent just the opposite side, so heat will go out from cabinet.
