I was still using my D1x until a couple of years ago when it had focusing issues and was declared obsolete. ( I cried)
Had my heart set on a D5, started saving swayed towards D 850 but definitely going to get a D6 as I know it’s going to do everything I want and last me forever.
I found the page to contribute to you- I just sent $10. https://backcountrygallery.com/contribute/
Steve, you are a gift to the photographt world. Please tell me you have a Patreon account.
You, sir - are a legend... Thank you so very much for such detailed review !!
Such a high quality review! Shameful that there's so little practical experience and reviews on the web to help people... thanks for making this so thorough, educational, and for talking to a lot of the tough decisions we're all trying to make!
have you tested the canon D1x Mark III ? I know you shoot Nikon but ever tested canon? if so what is your take on it in comparison with D6?
Incredibly valuable information. Only one problem, you are speaking very fast. For foreign followers who use English as a second language like me are having serious issues to follow your speech and not to mis your every single information. So we keep repeating the missed parts as a solution. Over all I am happy with so professional information and thank you for your serious efforts. Even Nikon ammassadors are not spending that much energy as you have been doing without having been sponsored by them. Nikon should see and appreciate this. Thanks and a happy new year. Greetings from Istanbul, Turkey.
Did you get a chance to test the 4k 30p and 1080 60p in-camera stills grab option? Artifacting, rolling shutter, blur, etc. Remembering how good MJpeg was on the D3s for the time, I was wondering how good the D6 performs at higher frame rates.
Beautiful lengthy review & I'm really appreciated!
Very surprised there's no way of setting up spot metering on a custom button. That's one of the few assignments I have been making forever on all my bodies.
Another great review Steve. So refreshing to see a true real world review and not just someone renting the D6 for a week and thinking that it warrants a true review of the camera. Having just upgraded to the D6 from a D4s, I agree with everything that that you said about the Auto Focus system and the customisation of the D6. It represents a massive upgrade from the D4s. Keep the videos coming Steve they are both informative and a great source of improving techniques.
Pretty stellar review. It’s nice to se a reel comparison of the new and previous model
I’m totally with you, as well as concerning the one disappointment: why Nikon didn’t update the sensor to a 20.8 megapixel BSI sensor, delivering exactly that one stop more dynamic range...
This has been an exceptional review! I've subscribed to see more because right now, this is the best I've seen; truely!
I'm about to purchase a D6 and am so excited!.
Steve you opinion is worth the opinions of probably 100 other photographers here in YouTube land, stay safe buddy.
Hi Steve, which one of these better for first time DSLR buyer for Still, Bird, Landscape and Portraits photography... D750, D780, Z6 ii, and one option from DX D7500. I really appreciate your view and suggestion with why ? Happy Thanksgiving holiday.
Getting my D6 tomorrow!!
Thanks so much, Steve. You have a new subscriber. Your review gives so much more information than the others. You truly know this camera and how it works with wildlife photography.
STEVE: Great review! I like how you show how to set up the menu settings on the camera and explain why. I shoot a D850 but I like to see what the future holds. The D6 goes on my wish list. I liked you're tips on settings for birds in motion video that I can use on my camera. I noticed that you explain why you should use a fast shutter speed 1000-4000/sec in that video and I can see it done in this video.
now d3s is 850 & do the job
2030 its going to be 850 dollars in ebay
4:00. A beautiful sound. ahahaha
Great video, where did you film it?
ATG predicted & now true. Nikon had mass layoffs. They will now become Nikon, Thailand.
Soon Leica will become & Made in Asia.
This due because many beginners & amateurs using Sony & cellphones.
The sound of DSLR’s is a beauty of photography. Mirrorless are maybe packed with technology but are too small to work with.
Don't forget, it's built like a tank!!!
I don’t care how good a camera is I’m not going to spend over 3K on it and that’s even stretching it.
Pfff...you get the Canon 1DX Mark iii for the same price and it blows the D6 out of the water in any regard.
I used Nikon for many years , last one was D5 , then moved to Sony RIII and never looked back.
So why do they not put the focus system in their other cameras? It’s a Nikon game. A game that is costing them. At least pay it forward to the 6 & 7 2 cameras if N ikon wants to stay in the game. If you are stepping up to mirrorless & plan on buying mirrorless lens, for $500 more, who wouldn’t,t go with the a better camera like the Sony 7R4. I’m a Nikon D850 owner with a D810 & not much of a budget to change. I might go with a D 850 & wait for a used 600f4 to come along. If my budget was better, I would own the 7R4 & lens needed for wildlife, macro & landscape already. Go Nikon. Greed kills!
I think for wildlife photography involving mammals with dark fur in less than perfect conditions like overcast sky or in the forest, the single digit Nikon's are still the best to freeze the motion in a usable image.
This is a camera for companies/photo studios to buy but too heavy for photographers like me who need lightweight for documentary work.
4:02 hate to see how you treat a rental car
This is good for Movie with manual block lenses ##
My D810 is better than this big brick. It doesn’t even have a pop up flash 📸
Thanks Snap chick.
The D6 is no good for wildlife or landscape. It is fantastic for photojournalism, weddings, portraits and sport.
I have owned the F5, D3, D4, D5. It is loud and heavy so I also own a mirrorless for those quiet moments.
A DSLR is way better than a mirrorless in the studio. Try shooting iso 100 at f8 with a model lamp and mono block, The mirrorless needs to be artificially lit....yuk!
Really ur so good looking i love how u speak love u ❤️
Hope you are waiting for Nikon d7. Good luck with d6
Truly amazing video n explained so well. No background sound , was listening u since beginning. 😊
I lived in Leicester in the UK as a kid before leaving the country and had a lot of Indian friends. I remember the accent well and it never fails to bring back sweet, childhood memories.
2020 has completely destroyed my side career as a night club interior and live event photographer. I went from 3-5 jobs per month to 1 in the entirety of 2020... Luckily my main business is hanging on.
Currently I'm using the D4 which allows me to take incredible low light, commercially viable images in very short amounts of time compared to the D810 which I also carry, and it was a decent step up from a second hand D3 I had used previously.
However, between the D4 and the D6, well over 8 years have passed, but I'm finding myself in a quandary considering the D6 vs a second hand D5. Very little perceived progress.. more just a slight evolution rather than any outstanding changes, proving that DSLR is now well past maturity.
Much like the F6, which was Nikon's last Film "Hurrah," and the last film camera I ever owned, I can't help feeling that DSLR has reached the end of the line and that the D6 might be the last cheer for Nikon, before abandoning the F format for good. For all intents and purposes, the D6 is really, in any real sense, just an upsold D5s.
Thanks for the sincere review. I'm in to getting it, today
ithink sometimes you can look at the second camera if you look ithink that is goooood and you are well
You don't do Cannon?
Mam which is better camera brand inbetween Canon & Nikon
Good knowledge...Thank u for Sharing.....

Wow. Ankita knows her stuff. The ONLY quibble I have with anything she said is she expected camera write speed to be faster with CFexpress cards, and initial testing might show it's actually slower than XQD. (Although this might be more so the case with the Z6 and Z7.) Overall, excellent review by a photography pro.
Great Video Ankita ..I miss my D3s ..Now shooting Z7
Davvero una bella recensione. Grazie!
nice Clase tq
