D'Addario EZ940 Acoustic Guitar String (12 String) Reviews from YouTube

Does String Gauge Affect Tone? 10's vs. 13's Comparison
Are You Using The Wrong Strings? | Acoustic Guitar String Comparison
Acoustic String Comparison: 80/20 vs. Phosphor Bronze
D'Addario strings for 12-string - Breaking them in?
you can get the same exact change simply by changing out the nut and bridge material to bone or tusq and with a new set of DR veritas heavy 9's you won't need a string adjustment unless you pay for the name and buy
How about doing a comparison of how a guitar would normally sound tuned to the standard 'E', vs how a guitar would sound dropped 3 or 4 steps and then using a capo to get the same chord 3 or 4 frets higher. So basically this would tell the difference of how strings would sound on high tension vs low tension. Am wondering if the loosely strung would sound too bad or what. This would be a great help for those of us who are thinking of dropped tunings to avoid the continuous high tension on the guitar neck, as well as to get an easier playable feel on an acoustic. Thks.
When i was young i want to play guitar and i start watching until now and never play guitar.
13 are the better sounding.!
hey. i bought an ibanez pf15 acoustic, and asked for extra string pack. the shop gave me ernie ball 10-50 , but on ibanez page it says that they use 12-53, so im wondering if i wil be able to switch them without some big adjustments on nut slots or something like that
Thanks for the video. Was wondering if 10 is (10-50) and 13 (13-56)? Thanks.
Slow down and play something
This 17 year old just said wife eh?.
I really can’t tell the difference in terms of sound quality
TL;DR: no.
I have the same Epiphone DR 100 and Im planning to change strings same Phosphor Bronze. Should I stick 10 the 12s or should Gauge up or down?
10s has more high end but 13s has a tighter low end
13's are deeper and warmer, 10's are a lot cleaner and brighter
Clearly it is not a revolutionary difference between 13 and 10. I would say the most primary choise is what you prefer as sound. Thicker gauge did give a bit more sustain on the bass strings. But, non of them was bad. For a beginner I would defenitly recommend the lighter gauge.
5:21 what’s this song
10 gauge gives a great ring on the end
I have exactly the same guitar , having trouble with vibration and maybe the thickness of my 11 elixir custom light polyweb strings , mind explaining at 2:51 how to adjust the relief of the neck and the saddle please . Thanks
If you strum chord with a thin pick and a thick pick definitely differences and speed differences better with thin nylon pick.
There's absolutely a difference, but not big enough that it's worth playing thicker strings. You can edit that in post
i only had cheap guitars high guage increase the volume on those but playing it is very hard since im used on soft/thin strings like 10's
taylor is over rated name buying and again no DR unbelievable.
Have a friend with a Taylor guitar, and he said the light strings don't work well on his guitar so he has to use medium or heavy strings. what are your thoughts on that?
Fantastic Sir ! Thank you for taking the time to do this for all of us : my ranking: 1-Monel 2-Flat top 3-Phosphor Bronze 4-80/20 I was surprised on the 13s the 10s sounded decent in comparison and i would guess way easier on the fingers - cheers!
Travis picking method? My ears liked the elixirs and the Dario 80/20s. Great video
What strings do u recomend for 114e?
pretty tones btw and playing demo
so true getting slight buzz on my D string using 11.5 silk& steerl 130m martins like them but want to try elixir 12s ph nano coats i have to experient
Thanks for all you do. I purchased the Yamaha FG830 and I e it I’ve used elixir strings for years but gonna try the Martin retros I’ve purchased 4 packs of them.
Thank you very much that was very helpful
I use only 0.15 to .088 and a quarter as a pick. That's what they did in the 70s to get tone.
80/20 non coated sound best too bad they only last about 2 weeks . I liked the monel too. I think I'm gonna try the flat wounds too
I got grey hair waiting for the comparison to start
Guitar strings are so confusing to me but I know when Taylor ships their Academy series they use light strings because I think because they're easier to play by a little bit. I think on the 100 and 200 series they use medium strings. I'm still confused when it comes to guitar strings I'm sorry this helps but I just guess I need to study more LOL thank you again.
My first guitar was a dreadnought that came with 13’s. My poor fingers were sore just after 30 minutes of playing! Even after 8 months! When it came time to get new strings I put 11’s on and I will never go back. I can play for hours now without finger fatigue and I love the tonal quality! Best blend for strumming and fingerpicking!
No doubt just due to my lack of skill but I did not detect a difference between the lighter gage strings but the heavier gage were noticeably louder.
What is best strings for mahogany guitar
Would be great if you did the same presentation for a classical guitar strings. Thanks!
I'm overwhelmed by the non-stop rat-a-tat-tat of words, technical names and possible effects of all these different strings.
Thanks man. I was using yoyo strings on my guitar. I could do cool tricks, but they sounded terrible. Now I'm not longer cutting my fingers off with yoyos strung with guitar strings. Seriously though. My 30 year old Yamaha can no longer abide heavier gauges. I'm nice to it and use lights now.
Thanks, great video. I just think you might have played more on all the strings, the picking style wasn't conducive to evaluating the voice of the strings. Still great video. Thanks.
Does String Gauge on Acoustic Make a Difference? 10's vs. 13's: for the video! Great playing too. You played every song I wanted to hear!
Both sets of strings sound great on that guitar.
Thanks so much buddy you helped me and for sure many others to choose the right one.
Nice video bro! Really helpful till this day! I prefer phosphor
What model Martin? Great video man!
80/20 Bronze strings defenitely. More punch, more grit, clearer and less mellow. Thanks for the video!
Well, I just put some 80/20's on my guitar and really didn't care for the sound at all. After listening to this incredibly well done comparison it's clear as can be that I'll never buy 80/20's again. The 80/20's IMO were louder and brighter but lack the wonderful harmonics of the PB's. It's like the difference between glass and crystal. The PB's had beautiful string to string balance and work well as a set while with the 80/20's each string seems to be trying to out do each other. Thanks for making my string buying decisions a mute point! Also, that is some beautiful playing sir.
I just overpaid for some Elixir 80/20 custom lights and they're obnoxiously bright. Now I'm going to go pick up some Dadarrio PB's, I can't seem to find the right sound
Thanks for comparrison. Don't feel bad as most people mispronounce but. The apostrophe after the D in D'Addario means that it is pronounced Dee- A- ddario. Not Da- Dario.
What gauge 80/20?
Good comparison . appreciate the effort to make it "apples to apples". And it's always great to hear someone half my age playing some Pink Floyd! I use phosphor/bronze on my smaller bodied guitar to "thicken" the sound, but prefer 80/20 on dreads so they're not so boomy.
I've recently switched to Curt Mangan 80/20 round core and love them.
I just bought the new D’addario XT (Phosphor bronze) and they are pretty awful. 80/20 sounds much more natural. There’s sort of muddy drony artifact in the phospors I really think is not good.
Great video. I searched because I'm trying to figure out which strings are better, 80/20 or phosphor bronze. From your video, they both sound the same. Maybe phosphor bronze last longer? I have a set of 80/20 Ernie Ball Earthwood on the guitar now, and they sound great. I'm going to try phosphor bronze next, but I'll wait until the 80/20s fade out.
Am I the only one who likes 80/20s more.
I preferred the 80/20s , but, then again, I use Martin 80/20s on my guitar (which is actually made of a darker tone wood than your D-28) There's something about the tone quality I prefer over Phosphor Bronze. It's all pretty subjective anyway. Thanks for doing the comparison.
I think it really depends mostly on what kind of style and tone you are trying to go for me personally as a finger picker I use phosphor bronze strings all the time because I feel like they sound more balanced and warm sounding whereas the 80/20 string sound more punchier which is kind of nice if you are a flat picker I feel like the highs are also more crisp and clear on the 80/20 but for me I don't want my eyes to be outstanding so I stick with the phosphor bronze strings
Would love to see a tutorial on "Day in the Life." That's a beautiful arrangement. Greater projection and articulation on 80/20 make sense with Martins, which are darker than Taylors. That's a gorgeous HD28. Generally if 80/20s are going to sound "vintage" and beautiful with balanced note separation and resonance, as they do here, also, dreadnought guitars are going to be the instrument they sound good on. This varies enormously, however! The PBs to my ear sounded best on the piece you played with rock chords. Less skilled players (like me) sometimes sound less skilled with the 80/20s, because there's little muddiness to conceal mistakes. PBs are reputed to be more "balanced" across the scale, so I was perhaps hearing more pronounced "mids". Certainly warmer on this guitar, but less projection and articulation. Thanks for superb playing. On one of the comparisons you sped up the PBs considerably, which suggests to me that they sound better banging out rock chords, and you adjusted the style accordingly.
Great video, they sound the same to me, another important comparison would be which ones feel better on fingers?sliding?bending?etc thanx
