Which strings do you use?
Correction: The First thing a guitar player needs to play guitar, is a guitar.
Elixir.
Another cool coincidence is i watch this when a was in toilet like now 🤣…
back in 1990, I used to have to skate miles to the only local music store. Then they would charge me $12.50 for a pack of power slinkies. When Guitar Center opened in the next town over I found D'addario's for $4 per set. Nothing else plays as good for the price. and to no fault of their own paying $12+ a set for Ernie Balls still leaves a bad taste. I have a friend whos a dealer for Ernie ball too and I will still pay more for regular D'addario. Here in California, Ernie Balls and D'addarios are both widely available. However, I do have to order my 12s and 13s for C and B tunings.
honestly i usd to use daddario religesly i have now statred to use ernie ball all my guitars hav floyds they tend to strech fast a tune faster than d addariio strings i like me some ernie ball strings
earnie ball in my hand alway corotion
D’addario are useless in a tour setting. If you break a string and have to change one on the fly you’ll have string spaghetti in your guitar case in no time.
D'Addario exl140!
Back in the day I played Dean Markley standard electric strings and fricken loved them.
The one good thing about ernie balls packaging is that it makes it easy to take one string and save the rest in labeled packaging
So I mean I can understand getting ernie balls for the price but daddarios are considerably better. Ernie ball will have that crisp new strings feel for like 3 days where the daddarios keep the crisp clean tone for about a month. Now I usually use the nyxl daddarios the very first time I used them my gf talked about how it sounded like an acoustic because of the major volume difference daddarios are considerably louder on top of that the tuning stability is faaaar better than ernie ball as well as that tone. My worn out daddarios on my guitar now, at least 2 months old, could still go head to head with some ernie balls and id pick the daddarios every time. Daddarios may cost 3x that of ernie ball but their about 6x better so id very much say its worth it cheapest way to get better tone and I mean come on 15 bucks is not that much to change drum heads its damn near 200 so I mean play what you prefer but the daddarios blow ernie ball out the water
I play either, and can't tell the difference. They sound and feel the same to me.
I used to use Ernie balls all the time but I kept busting a string often and during a few shows. So I decide to try daddario and haven’t used anything else since. They last far longer and to be completely honest I haven’t popped a string for a few years ever since moving to daddario. Another plus is that they have a set for down tuning that also includes a wound third.
The D'addario NYXL strings are the best strings I have ever played. Only using them now. They sound fresh for like half a year or full year, they don't break or rust, they sound quite modern and they play disgustingly well. You Liter fly across the strings. I cannot sing enough praises for those strings. Worth every penny.
d's feel like razor blades on my fingers - i have no idea why..
i play slinky and earthwood now, but i used to go in for the more expensive elixirs and martins.
These are actually the two brands of strings I use quite often. I probably prefer D’Addario just a hair but Ernie Ball has gauges I like better and a big variety of gauges. I don’t use the same gauges on every guitar but on Strats I use burly Slinkys (11-52) and no one else offers the same gauges as the Burly.
Tried earnie balls after a few years of using diadario and ghs boomers, and earnie ball suck so bad it hurts, they sounded dead real quick
Heads up: Sweetwater has 3 packs of Slinkys that come in a cardboard box now. Inside, the sets are individually sealed, and the strings in a paper sleeve. (Just got some this week)

HA!!!
is there a new set up required for a floating tremolo using same gauge as the XL's due to the tension difference?
I know it’s odd but I use these along with dimarzio x2n pickups on an Ibanez RGA and that guitar sang. I started using flats and thicker gauges for a finger workout to build calluses and then I grew to love the low string noise and the crazy tension cause it feels bouncy to me when alternate picking string to string. I’m not using half rounds on a Kiesel Aries with a very comparable set of their pickups.
The only problem with the NY XL strings is the NY part. Fcuk Nwe Yrok!
D'Addario strings suck
The only strings I use
I don't like this salesman who says "XL is the industry standard" unless he has the data to prove it. Just say it's your most popular string or something. Its sly.

So which string gauge sounds best to you on this telecaster?
Buenísimo carnal
Great video. Just tried 9.5 and the tone, sustain and tension for bending are perfect. However, I already miss the feeling of 10s... I guess I am stuck. I already have my strat on Eb tuning and I don't want my tele to be Eb tuning as well... maybe I need a professional setup...
Dings are the thing. There is a story behind every ding. And thanks again. Stay safe bro
Did you have to do a set up to accommodate the lighter string gauge? Nice video by the way 👍🏼
thaks for teh video..First I'm a 10's user with my amreican special strat and love the sound. In your video , in sound i heard more full sound on 10's ... but between 9.5 and 9,s i can heard apreciable diference... the question is the feeling in the fingers..my feeling is that i have a noticiable diference between tens and nines, (bendings vibratos etc are very diferent) my question is how do you feel with 9.5 more near of 9,s or more near of 10,s? specially on light strings 123 . whats your opinion? and sorry for my bad english :)
It would have been nice on a clean sound only.
I think they all sound the exact same. It's more of a feel thing. I typically play 9's, but I'm going to try a 9.5 on my telecaster soon. 🤘🏻
From your video, I really like 9 the most, then 9.5 and then10. But, I presume that you use a same pick thickness through all ? What am I realized from my experience ( mostly hss strat last 20ish years, but playing all in all 41 year) is, that, if you play thicker strings, you need thicker pick, just to compensate attack. I'm talking about chasing the tone that I like, it's not the fact of Universe. So, strat with 10 and using mini stubby jazz 3,0 mm pick. But, here you are loosing some of picking hand speed and really brutal for high bending of 1st string upperneck. But the sound is melower, gentlier. If you use thinner pick, sound is brighter but nastier, not so beautiful. If You use strat with 9,5 or 9 and use stubby jazz, if you are not particulary gentle player, you'll break the strings very often. Sound is still good but a little bit oversomthing. I don't know what. So, I needed to adjust pick thickness, so, with thinner strings I use thinner pick, like dunlop 0,7-1,0 mm.
But, after your video, I really decide to go back to thinner strings (after 15ish years) because I like their sound better. Better focused upper mid and more clarity on the top. And, one plus more, they are really easer to play.
Just my opinion, no intentions to play smart or whatever.
Best regards !
10s is obviously better
Hello, i bought a Ddario XL 11-49 for my fender telecaster.
Is it too hard or is it okey?
Greattings
СПАСИБО.
Nothing beats the snap of 9's
10 wins.
Great video. The 10s sounded just a hair fuller, the 9s a hair thinner but also more punchy. I do not have a preference based on sound. Going from 9s to 10s on teles for me is more of a feel thing. If you turn down a half step, or do a lot of drop D tunings, I think 10s are the better way to go, as the 9s tend to get more like spaghetti when you drop tune.
I like to run 10's on my stratocasters tuned a half step down. I run 9's on my Les Paul's with standard E tuning and I have a Drop pedal for any other tunings.
10’s are keepers. IMHO.
If you’re so inclined- try 10-48 sometime.
It’s crazy what a difference .01mm of string makes in the sound. I love the sound of 10s but I stick with 9s because it’s easier to play.
Im changing all my Telecasters from 9 to 10 because of this video! 10 sounds WAY better!
I have a hot rod 52 honey blonde Tele. 9,5-44 for me but i will try 9-42 for sure. Nice video 👍
